Rebirth: I have Monopoly System
Chapter 250 - 248: The Funds Have Arrived, and the Subsequent Power of the Misfortune Talisman
Lei Lei was scrolling through Weibo when she saw a reposted article. She cried out, grabbing the attention of the entire dorm room. "Yueyue! Your Wu Yun is completely famous now! He’s a billionaire! Congratulations, future boss lady!"
Hearing Lei Lei’s words, Yang Lili felt a wave of jealousy so intense it almost burst from her chest. For the past two days, all she’d seen was news about Bai Yue’s boyfriend, and she couldn’t help but compare him to her own, who still had to ask his family for money.
If looks could kill, she would have murdered Bai Yue and taken her place long ago.
"I think Ah Yun’s success is well-deserved! He told me before that he invested forty million directly into Little Red Car in the early stages! With that, plus some luck and a good idea, it’s only normal that he succeeded!"
Bai Yue was quite proud. ’Not many people would have the guts to risk it all like that,’ she thought, ’investing most of his winnings into a startup.’
She had been worried before, but seeing Little Red Car grow larger and larger, and hearing that Wu Yun had also made money from other funds and the stock market, she had completely let go of her concerns.
"Tch. It’s not like he didn’t rely on his family."
Bai Yue heard the comment from Yang Lili’s bed. Instead of getting angry, she provoked her in return. "You’re right! But relying on family is still much better than showing off at school every day in a sports car that isn’t even that expensive, don’t you think?"
Bai Yue didn’t want to reveal Wu Yun’s real family background. After all, it was a painful subject for him, and it had taken a long time to help him move past it back then.
"You—" Frustrated, Yang Lili flopped onto her bed and picked up her phone to text her boyfriend. "Brother Li, didn’t you say a while ago you were thinking about starting a business? Have you decided what you want to do yet?"
...
Although he had given his old phone to Wang Hao to manage, Wu Yun still received many calls from acquaintances. Some were to congratulate him, others to ask about the specifics of the situation.
Fortunately, Wu Yun didn’t have many relatives, which spared him the trouble of dealing with people trying to get close to him or borrow money.
At noon on November 26th, Wu Yun received a notification from his bank about a deposit.
"Industrial and Commercial Bank of China notification: Card ending in **** has received an after-tax payment of 672 million Huaxia Coins from a share transfer. Current balance: 1.032 billion Huaxia Coins."
Tan Shu even called Wu Yun specifically to confirm the transfer and took the opportunity to ask if he had any plans for investment or wealth management.
After turning down Tan Shu, Wu Yun received a call from Luo Guangrong, who invited him to a golf club event in the middle of next month, mentioning that many of Rongcheng’s elite would be attending.
Wu Yun naturally gave a non-committal reply, saying he’d see if he had time, but Luo Guangrong insisted on giving him an invitation anyway, even saying he would deliver it to his door personally.
After hanging up, Wu Yun finally had a chance to check his system’s notifications.
"Paid 168 million in personal income tax. EXP increased by 168 million. After tallying, you are now Level 6 (760,770,000 / 1,000,000,000)."
Wu Yun grew excited. ’A level-up is within reach!’
So, Wu Yun picked up his phone and dialed Peng Zhijian.
"President Wu! Did you receive all the funds for the share acquisition?" Peng Zhijian asked, speaking first.
Wu Yun laughed and replied, "I did, President Peng. I wanted to ask how the preparations for WeBank are coming along. My funds have all arrived, so I’m ready to make the payment anytime!"
Peng Zhijian wasn’t surprised. He knew Wu Yun had just received the transfer from Tencent and now had a large amount of cash on hand. Plus, considering the "war chest" Wu Yun had mentioned preparing for Pinduoduo, it wasn’t strange for him to be able to produce so much money in such a short time.
"There’s no rush for that. We probably won’t need the funds to be in place until early December. I’ll notify you when the time comes!"
Hearing Peng Zhijian’s reply, Wu Yun wanted to scream, ’You may not be in a hurry, but I am! I need to level up!’
So, Wu Yun temporarily shelved the thought of leveling up and prepared to wait for December.
Around noon, Wu Yun got another call, this time from Qi Fei.
"Xiaoyunzi! The verdict from Wang Tianqi’s trial is out! It’s so satisfying!" Qi Fei’s excited voice came through the phone.
"Oh? What was the sentence?" Wu Yun had been so busy with his company lately that he hadn’t been following the local news in Modu.
Qi Fei said, "I don’t know how Wang Tianqi got so unlucky, but the families of the two people he killed in the crash strongly demanded he be sentenced and refused to accept a private settlement."
"On top of that, a girl he raped back in high school and a boy whose limbs he’d broken both came forward. They first filed police reports and then immediately filed lawsuits against him."
Even though he wasn’t on a video call with Qi Fei, Wu Yun could tell she must be smiling.
"Causing death by drunk driving and fleeing the scene already carries a sentence of seven years or more. Add his other prior offenses to the mix, and the court combined the charges and sentenced him directly to twenty years in prison!"
"And the real kicker is, his family’s driver was acquitted, but Wang Tianqi’s mother was found guilty of harboring a criminal. Because she covered up for his crimes so many times, the offense was considered serious, and she was sentenced to ten years!"
After hearing Qi Fei’s long explanation, Wu Yun found it strange that there was no mention of Wang Tianqi’s father, Wang Wei.
So he asked Qi Fei, "What about Wang Tianqi’s father?"
"I don’t know for sure. I heard that Wang Tianqi’s father, Wang Wei, claimed he was unaware of everything because he was always away on business, and he used that to distance himself from the whole affair. He only showed up on the day of the trial and apparently raised no objections to the verdict!"
...
After passing through multiple security checks, Wang Wei was finally led by a guard through the various checkpoints of the women’s prison. He was taken to a small room with a glass partition, where he saw a face that was both intimately familiar and long-unseen. It was as if she had aged ten years.
Wang Wei looked at his wife, Li Juan, on the other side of the glass. Picking up the special telephone, he said, "Honey! I wanted to try and do something for you both, but who knew this would all blow up so much! My hands were tied!"
A bitter expression crossed Wang Wei’s face as he continued, "It’s my fault, too. I was always away for work, leaving you to raise our child alone. I haven’t been a good father! Or a good husband! Here’s a divorce agreement. If you sign it, I’ll deposit one hundred million in cash into your account as a fixed-term deposit. Tianqi’s life is ruined. So... I want to try and give him a little brother or sister."
Li Juan looked at Wang Wei coldly, a sneer twisting her lips. "Wang Wei! Let me tell you something! Don’t you dare put on that pathetic act. Don’t think for a second I don’t know what you’re planning!"
"That’s right! Tianqi’s life is ruined, but he’s your son, too! I’m not signing these divorce papers! You can go tell all your little mistresses that as long as I’m here, their sons can forget about ever taking what belongs to mine!"
Having said her piece, Li Juan slammed the phone down, stood up, and left the communication room under the guard’s escort.
Wang Wei watched Li Juan’s retreating back, a vicious expression flashing across his face for a moment. He roared inwardly, ’Li Juan, you bitch, since you refuse to know what’s good for you, don’t blame me for being heartless!’
Wang Wei stood up, gently placed the receiver back on its cradle, and then turned and left the prison.
