Rebate King: Every Beauty I Spoil Makes Me a Billionaire
Chapter 410: Things He Doesn’t Know
Stan remained silent.
She continued. "You survived. She sensed that you were in danger, and the feeling disappeared once you were safe again."
Her crimson eyes met his. "Whatever the reason, she was connected to you strongly enough to feel something she could not explain."
Stan’s expression softened slightly.
Camilla wasn’t trying to explain something she didn’t understand. She was simply giving him another way to look at it.
And strangely enough, that helped.
"Perhaps you’re right."
Camilla gave a small nod.
"You have been encountering one unusual thing after another since the return of Qi. There is no reason to expect everything to make sense immediately."
Stan let out a quiet breath. "True."
A brief silence followed. Then Camilla added:
"And if something similar happens again, you will know to pay attention."
Stan looked at her. A faint smile appeared.
"That’s actually good advice."
"I know."
He chuckled softly. But even as the conversation eased, the thought remained in the back of his mind.
Something happened between Sophie and me. He still didn’t know what.
And the fact that the system had never mentioned anything like this continued to bother him. First Sis begins absorbing Qi without even knowing what Dao is.
Now Sophie can somehow sense when I’m hurt from thousands of kilometers away.
His eyes narrowed slightly. How many things are happening around me that I haven’t noticed yet? He wasn’t afraid, not exactly.
But for the first time, Stan was beginning to suspect that the system wasn’t going to explain every mystery surrounding him.
Perhaps some answers would have to be discovered on their own. And perhaps that was exactly how it was supposed to be.
He lifted his head and grinned teasingly, "So..."
Camilla looked at him, seeing that look on his face she knew he was about to tease her, but she still asked, "What?"
"’My brother’s beloved.’" Stan grinned as he teased her by reminding her of his sister’s teasing words...
As expected, her expression stiffened instantly. "Do not."
Stan grinned. "I didn’t even finish."
"You were going to."
"...Maybe."
She gave him a flat stare.
Stan laughed in response, a small tired but genuine laugh. "Alright, alright. I’ll stop."
A beat passed, then Camilla quietly muttered: "Your sister really is troublesome."
"Yeah." Stan’s smile softened as he adde, "But I’m glad she came."
Camilla was quiet for a moment. Her red eyes softened slightly. "...So am I."
The simple answer surprised him a little. He looked at her. She didn’t elaborate. Neither did he. For a while, neither spoke.
Stan’s phone remained face down on the table. The city stretched beyond the glass, lights beginning to dominate the fading evening.
His thoughts returned to Sophie’s confession.
His eyes narrowed slightly as he thought about it, ’What else could be happening that I don’t know about?’
Camilla walked past him toward the living room. She noticed his silence but chose not to interrupt.
Stan remained seated for another moment before finally standing. The two of them continued deeper into the apartment.
For now, there were no answers, only more questions.
Stan let the silence sit for a while.
Sophie’s revelation was not going to unpack itself in one evening, and he had already spent more of the past hour in the small careful back of his own head than he had budgeted for.
Camilla was still nearby, one long pale hand resting on the arm of the accent chair, red eyes tracked idly to the sea beyond the glass, her posture had a small unhurried stillness to it... She was giving him the space to think without appearing to give him anything.
Camilla’s gaze drifted toward the kitchen.
She had been silent for several minutes, but something had been bothering her.
Or to put it more accurately, she wanted something.
Her eyes settled on the dish Stan had prepared earlier.
She hadn’t commented on it at the time, she hadn’t asked for more. She had simply eaten, as composed as ever, giving him no indication that the meal had been particularly memorable.
Yet now, only a few hours later, she found herself wanting it again. It was an unfamiliar sensation.
Camilla stood.
Stan looked up. "Where are you going?"
She didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she walked toward the kitchen and stopped near where the remaining food had been kept.
Stan watched her for a moment before understanding.
A small smile appeared on his face.
"You’re craving it."
Camilla looked over her shoulder. "I am not."
"You walked toward the food without even thinking about it."
"I was curious."
"Of course." Stan smiled...
She gave him a flat look before returning her attention to the dish.
After a moment, she glanced back at him.
"Why didn’t you mention this food earlier?"
"When?"
"When your sibling asked about what you could prepare."
Stan raised an eyebrow. "You remembered that?"
"I remember most things."
"Apparently."
She studied the dish again. "And why did you make fresh food?"
Stan’s expression changed slightly. That was a better question than she probably realized.
He considered whether to tell her. There wasn’t really any reason to hide it from her, after all, with her in his harem, she can’t really act on that info that Polar bear liver is poisonous to his sister, and with his sister becoming a Cultivator soon, she would be able to handle it... After all, she was going through the evolution stage, soon enough, she won’t be a normal human anymore...
While theres no reason to hide it from her, explaining the reason meant admitting something he hadn’t bothered mentioning earlier.
After a brief pause, he answered, "The liver."
Camilla’s eyes narrowed slightly, "The liver?"
"Yes, the liver of the beast I killed back then."
She waited.
Stan continued, "It contains a huge amount of a substance called vitamin A. Too much of it can be toxic to ordinary humans."
Camilla’s eyes flickered once. Then she understood, "I see."
She glanced toward the dish, "So that’s why."
Stan nodded. He didn’t elaborate, after all he didn’t need to.
Camilla was quiet for a moment, piecing together the implication herself. "You were being cautious with her."
"Of course. "
Her gaze returned to the food, she smiled faintly, after witnessing, Sacha and Stan sibling behaviour, with each other, their teasing and all that, she couldn’t help but imagine if Sacha knew...
"What if she saw the left overs, you would have stopped her."
"Immediately."
That earned a small amused breath from her. "You are rather protective."
