Book 11: Chapter 86: Fear (1)
“Ha…”
Dyon sighed deeply, watching the familiar prayerful black armored knight slowly trudge toward him. Even if his senses were ten times duller, he could immediately tell that Famine’s famine qi was easily several fold stronger than before.
Dyon had the latent comprehension of the Concept of Balance necessary to defeat him the first time, but what about this time?
Dyon’s comprehension had improved after using [Devour], but by how much? Since Dyon was absorbing Famine’s comprehension in its lower celestial state, how could he expect to use it to defeat its middle celestial state?
‘So stupid. How could the four horsemen of legend be mere lower celestials. Dammit.’
Though he left legends on the mortal plane often reached the pinnacle of strength that plane could allow. This meant that figures on the level of the four horsemen were Higher Existences at worse – in strength, that is.
Of course, there was a good chance that the Heavens had perpetuated their legend on purpose for the expressed purpose of this trial. However, even in that case, they had to be the strongest experts this world could produce… That meant they were most definite Peak Dao Experts.
‘Here we go again…’
Dyon didn’t even register what happened as he was sent flying backward.
The three voices had fallen into complete silence. Ever since Dyon stripped off his robes and left himself a comfortable pair of sweatpants, they hadn’t uttered a single word.
This was exceptionally odd. They had gone from rooting for his death at every possible chance, to complete silence. Dyon had half expected them to burst into a fit of laughter after he realized he had to battle Famine again. But, they had actually said nothing.
The loud thud of Dyon crashing against a thick pillar reverberated through the room.
Dyon took out a pill. If he forgot to use his advantage as an alchemist again, he would never hear the end of it. Since his soul was severely weakened, he likely couldn’t concoct pills with the same level of efficacy he could in the past. So, he had no choice but to use pills he had already formed.
However, who knew that after swallowing his pill… He would suddenly feel something eerily wrong…
‘Why don’t I sense any of the medicinal essence flowing through my body?’
Dyon hardly had time to think before another bombardment of famine qi assaulted him from all sides.
His body flickered with coursing lightning qi, having no choice but to use the same crude methods he had the first time around.
Dyon began to run, taking pill after pill out and swallowing them, but nothing seemed to work.
To make matters worse, the pills he was swallowing were all of the star grade at worse. His divine sense was too weak to see through their secrets, so he had no way to analyze what was wrong. As a result, he had no choice but to slowly test each one of them with his own body.
This was truly ridiculous. If this world suppression had lowered his soul strength to his own personal standards, he wouldn’t have this problem. But the issue was that it had lowered his divine sense to the standards of a normal celestial!
When Dyon finally figured out what was wrong, not only were his lungs screaming, but his face had gone pale.
‘Someone is playing games with me…’
He suddenly remembered words Madeleine had said to him just a few years ago… The reason he loved alchemy so much was because it was in essence snatching heavenly laws for creation. Dyon relished in that sort of conquest…
But what could you do if you were suddenly in an entirely different world? What if the very same heavenly laws you had relied on were nowhere in sight?…
Wouldn’t that make your pill no different from a dead sphere ball?
There was nothing wrong with Dyon’s pills… It was just that they couldn’t elicit any healing because the heavenly laws they relied on weren’t here!
Dyon grit his teeth, a swarm of grey qi smashing into his right side.
‘Think, think, think…’
Dyon couldn’t increase his strength with [Titan Diamond Body]. He had to keep his soul burning at the lowest possible level because he simply didn’t have enough knowledge of what would happen if he took it a step further… If he suddenly lost the ability to burn his soul, he wouldn’t even be able to resist this world suppression anymore. On top of that, his qi… his body… even his wills had all regressed to pitiful levels.
It was no wonder he had instinctually barely used his wills since this battle began… They were too weak in this place! The same laws he tapped into on the mortal plane that made him strong were in short supply here! How could his wills be just as strong?
He had been completely lucky that the Concept of Balance and Momentum were nearly identical in this place.
‘Wait…’ Dyon’s eyes sharpened, blood flowing from his body like a crimson rain.
Dyon suddenly realized something. When he came to this place, everything, even his constitutions had regressed. This included his Concept of Balance since it was tied to his Eternity’s Balance constitution. However, when he improved it by absorbing Famine’ balance scale… It hadn’t continued to be suppressed!
Dyon’s gaze blazed.
