Chapter 1138: On The Other Side, One of Twelve
Izroth lowered his hand from Empyrean’s shoulder and said, "For now, we’ll set this matter aside. There are still some things that must be done and questions that have to be answered. Until then, we shouldn’t show our hand too early."
Before he made a move and the other side became aware of his existence, Izroth planned to use their ignorance to his advantage.
’This is a good chance to weed out those deeply rooted in the upper ranks of the Mortal Realm.’
Empyrean nodded and replied, "We have already waited for five years, elder brother. What is a little longer?"
Empyrean then went on to explain how he and Selene became trapped in the Gate of the Separati.
According to Empyrean, the Gate of the Separati was used by the Holy Saintess in an attempt to capture Selene. However, Empyrean interfered during its activation process. And, thanks to his unique physique which repelled magic, the Gate of the Separati malfunctioned. As a result, it became unstable after pulling in him and Selene.
’The Gate of the Separati must have been a relic that only uses a portion of magic to function rather than relying on it entirely. If that’s the case, it would explain why it malfunctioned and why it could still affect Empyrean.’
"After that, the Holy Saintess must have left the Gate of the Separati in the secret underwater base since it was the closest and safest place. If I had to guess, a situation might have come up to where she couldn’t immediately take a broken and unstable relic around with her. If so, she must have planned to come back after settling things." Izroth said.
He then continued, "So? Just what happened on the other side during the last five years? Where exactly did you and Selene end up?"
"We ended up in a place called Sarkan. We spent the first two years constantly on the run from Devil Beasts and the third year trying to avoid being pulled into the Great War. As for the last two years, we were able to stabilize our positions in Sarkan and suppress the Devil Beasts. Since things had settled down, we planned to finally devote all of our means to finding a way to return to your side. That’s when we felt it—the connection shared between the three of us." Empyrean explained.
He then continued, "At first, we thought it was merely our desires that brought it about. However, after feeling it multiple times and vaguely feeling your intent to rescue us, we decided to wait and see what happens. Once we saw the spatial passageway, we knew that it must have been made by you as a way to guide us. The passageway was unstable and it was difficulty to tell if we were going in the right direction. However, I suddenly felt a strange breeze with an aura of familiarity to it and decided to follow its traces. That’s how we ended up back here."
Sarkan? Devil Beasts? Great War?
’The name Sarkan does not sound familiar whatsoever. Did they end up in a Minor Realm or Secret Realm?’
"It sounds like the two of you have been through a lot these past few years. I’m glad that you’ve kept each other safe all this time. You’ve also come quite far." Izroth’s stated with a carefree smile.
Selene flapped her wings and flew back over to Izroth’s shoulder.
"Coo~"
"Selene, how long do you plan on keeping up this act? Hasn’t it gone on long enough?" Empyrean said with a helpless expression.
"Big brother Empy 1is no fun. I wanted to surprise big brother Izroth when he least expected it." A voice sounded from Izroth’s shoulder.
"Haven’t there been enough surprises these past five years?" Empyrean said with a light sigh.
’Oh? I thought it was strange that she still couldn’t speak as a Supreme spirit despite having grown to this point. So it turns out it was intentional.’
"To think that you’re capable of playing pranks like this now—you’ve also come a long way. I’m grateful." Izroth said.
"Is that something to be grateful for..?" Selene muttered to herself as she covered her face with her wings to hide her embarrassment.
"You’ve grown well and healthy. If I am not grateful for that much, I would be a rather greedy person." Izroth stated.
"It’s okay to be a little greedy. Otherwise, I would have never have gotten the chance to meet big brother Izroth and big brother Empy." Selene said cheerfully.
"So you remember what you did." Izroth commented.
"Hmph! Who told those other guys to chase after big brother Izroth? If they wanted to compete with me, they should at least be on the level of my big sisters!" Selene flapped her wings in an agitated manner.
Back when Izroth first used the Spirit Awakening Contract to find a spirit to form a contract with, there were many eager spirits. However, in the end, Selene essentially pushed all of those powerful spirits aside and forcibly imprinted herself into the Spirit Awakening Contract. Such a feat should have been impossible for even the most powerful spirits.
Since that moment, Izroth had a strong feeling that Selene’s origins may not be simple. After all, it was not as though Supreme ranked spirits grew on trees.
"Big sisters? Were you not an only child?" Izroth commented.
While he was initially somewhat hesitant to ask about Selene’s family given the situation she came from, since she brought it up first, Izroth decided dig a little further.
Izroth remembered first meeting Selene in Aurie’s Dream Domain. In that place, Selene was just an abandoned orphan that had no life in her eyes.
’The Dream Domain is mysterious in many ways. Things probably aren’t as simple and straightforward as it seems.’
"Ah, big brother Izroth must be talking about one of my Incarnations. The Incarnation you met is me and I am also them. But, they are not entirely me, yet they are entirely a part of me. Big brother Izroth can think of it as being one of many parts of me. Though the Incarnation big brother Izroth met was hidden so deeply. To have found and won her over is the same as having cherished me at my lowest point. That is why, I will always treasure big brother Izroth." Selene explained as she happily rubbed the side of her head against Izroth’s cheek.
’An Incarnation?’
Izroth understood the gist of things; however, there were still several unclear parts. Nevertheless, Selene seemed aware of what took place in the Dream Domain. Or, at the very least, she felt the desires and will of her Incarnation. Ultimately, it did not matter to Izroth. All that mattered was that she was one of his people now and he would always treat her as such.
"As for my big sisters, big brother Izroth, you can’t be too surprised when you hear it, okay? But, I am the youngest daughter of the Queen of Spirits. My big sisters—I am sure big brother Izroth will know from that alone." Selene said as she repositioned herself to the top of Izroth’s head.
’The twelve daughters of the Queen of Spirits. If Selene is one of them, that would mean her big sisters are all powerful existences that can’t be compared to normal or even high ranking spirits.’
"Is one of your sisters a small fairy with four wings, golden hair and yellow eyes?" Izroth inquired.
"Ah! Big brother Izroth, have you already met big sister Merdere?!" Selene said, shocked.
As if she suddenly remembered something, Selene quickly followed up, "Wait, does this mean that you also met big sister Celebrexa?! Big brother Izroth, no matter how amazing and beautiful big sister Celebrexa is, you can’t ever sign a contract with her! Never ever!"
Selene spoke in a panicked manner as her wings flapped about wildly as she stomped her little bird feet atop Izroth’s head.
Izroth reached up and grabbed ahold of Selene, holding her before him. If others saw her panicked and anxiously worried expression while she flapped her wings, they would not be able to help but to find it adorable.
"Your sisters are already contracted to someone else. Otherwise, would it be so easy to meet with one of your big sisters?" Izroth said reassuringly.
After hearing Izroth’s words, Selene calmed down.
"Even after that contract is over, you really won’t sign one with big sister Celebrexa, right? You have to promise." Selene said with a pitiful gaze as she held her wings inward.
"If it will help you feel at ease, then I will promise you." Izroth answered calmly.
"Hehe~ Since big brother Izroth promised, then he can’t take it back." Selene said joyfully.
"I, Izroth, am always a man of my word. Since I’ve already said it, naturally, I won’t take it back." Izroth stated.
...
Several hours passed as Empyrean and Selene went into more details about what happened in Sarkan. Some of the things Izroth heard were shocking. Especially, the existence of Devil Beasts that even Empyrean was helpless to face off against directly during his first two years in Sarkan.
One had to know that, even before he got trapped in Sarkan, Empyrean was someone who could survive a head on confrontation against someone in the early stages of the legendary realm. For someone like him to be helpless against the Devil Beasts during that time, their power could not be underestimated.
Fortunately, Sarkan did not seem to have a direct connection to the Mortal Realm; therefore, it was not something had to give too much thought to.
’This should be the place.’
"You two wait for me nearby. Feel free to explore the area, but don’t go too far." Izroth instructed.
"Yes, elder brother." Empyrean replied respectfully.
Selene seemed a bit reluctant to part; however, as if understanding Izroth’s intention, she flew over to Empyrean’s side and sprawled out on the top of his head.
Swoosh!
In one motion, Empyrean soared into the skies along with Selene.

Izroth looked up as Empyrean flew away before he turned his attention ahead.
"The coordinates given to me by Haishe are just ahead. Now then, shall I go see exactly what trials this Trial Dungeon has in store?" Izroth said to himself as he made his way toward the exact coordinates.
Selene’s nickname for Empyrean.
