Sam's expression remained solemn as they travelled back to their base.
They didn't even use the spatial tokens to back to the cave. It is not like Sam raised any objections, he just didn't speak to them at all. He slowly flew over on the harbinger, while Chetan and team felt extremely terrified and guilty over what he did.
So, they just shut their traps and followed him back.
What they didn't know is, Sam is checking the environment around.
The planet has a way to sustaining and keeping itself in balance. And the city they destroyed along with the spiritual energy veins below it are all part of that system that keeps the planet in balance. Because of the abrupt loss of that city, he wondered if there are going to be any changes in the nearby surroundings.
However, all he noticed is that the energy concentration in the immediate surroundings has drastically reduced.
All this while, the city's spiritual veins are the ones keeping the surroundings lush with spiritual energy, now that they are gone, the city is now a sink that attracts energy from other
areas.
The surrounding energy is getting sucked into that sink.
He observed that the effect surprisingly lasted for a long distance and the environment only appeared normal only after they reached the base.
They walked in and Sam immediately went to the map.
"Because of your little stunt, all the enemy forces that came are dead. This bought us enough time to come back here. But I assume that they are not stupid enough to just sit and wait for the news to come from their forces.
Someone might have arrived there and checked the situation.
Lucky for us, the would be in deep shock not knowing what happened.
The explosion erased everything. The city, people, the last blade of grass, everything turned to dust. They might even assume that even we are dead.
If they do, that will be our biggest advantage for our next attack.
Even if they don't we still a great chance. I want you guys to spread out now and do some scouting for me. Target the three cities that sent the reinforcements to deal with us, just now. Find out which one is at its weakest. Put extra focus on Nalvahan. That city has been attacked by me. They also led their forces to deal with us in anger. That one also has limited access to the other cities compared to the rest.
If there is less than fifty percent of security compared to before, send a message. We will attack that city and take it over quickly.
But this time, it won't be a direct attack, so be prepared."
Chetan and team walked after listening to Sam's instructions. They got into action immediately. Chetan did have something to say to Sam, but the cold gaze froze him on the spot.
"What are you so concerned about? It is just some equipment."
One of the teammates said to Chetan.
They understood why Sam is a bit angry. After all, the bird puppets are not easy to make. They have already seen how complicated the bird puppets provided by hub are. So, they assumed Sam might have made them or bought them through his relation with the hub.
They are bound to be expensive.
But they didn't think Chetan should walk on eggshells because of that.
They can just compensate him and they will be done with it. But Chetan then gave them the crystal table Sam gave him. They were dumbfounded by the list on it. Sam didn't ask for coins or spirit stones, instead he gave a lit of all the materials he needed for the compensation.
He even gave them a table with the exchange rate of how much a bird puppet cost him and how is charging them.
"Fucking hell. This much?" The teammate looked at Chetan who just nodded.
After a moment, he gave the tablet back to Chetan and said.
"Captain, you shouldn't have made that decision all by yourself. And you should just take responsibility."
Just like that, the burden of paying back Sam fell on Chetan.
Soon, they spread out and reached their respective destinations. Just like Sam expected, the three cities have less security and Nalvahan in particular is almost bare to its bones.
The news reached the rest of the team and they all arrived in its vicinity.
The defensive measures are still on, so if they barge in, a notification will be sent to the others and the reinforcements will come.
So, Sam came up with a solution and it is a pretty simple one for him. He just tapped into the spatial transference network of the city itself. He already checked out their transference network when they occupied the previous city.
They basically used a special trick to lock down the nodes that formed a closed network of space gates. It allows only for those space gates to be connected to each other and those nodes can only be accessed through those gates.
With one of the cities going belly up, there is an opening in the network. Sam just configured some transference tokens to use that opening and hola... they are inside the Nalvahan city.
The team arrived at a remote location and spread out.
There are only a few people left to defend and they are all occupying the key spots outside. Chetan led his team to conduct assassinations while Sam went to the core of the formation to
take control.
The first thing he did is to remove the city from that space gate network without alerting the Poseidon team. It only took a few minutes.
Once that is done, he took control of the defenses completely.
"We are not going to stay here." Sam said after the team came back, finishing their
assassinations.
"Then?"
"We can't hold off that much fire power with just twelve of us. And the defenses of the city can only hold on for so long."
"But.."
"Don't say something stupid like 'We tried to hold on in that city'. That's when I have my puppets that I created with so much effort and money. I don't have those.
We are changing tactics. We will eliminate the existing forces and then bring the gambler academy forces in after that.
Whatever is lost, can be lost we can just rebuild the infrastructure and defenses again after
that."
Chetan and team were shut up with those words. They only awaited commands after that.
"I need you to go to the formation nodes and attach these tokens to them. The order and pattern are shown in the recording crystals.
Make no mistake and do it fast."
Sam gave another set of commands and sent them away.
The team went to the locations of the formation nodes, placed the tokens as per instructions.
All in all within one hour, they left the city.
There are no visible changes except for the lack of security personnel at the most obvious
spots.
Sam is glad that the opposition took their time. For them to not come back to this city for over two hours, they must have assumed that the gambler team died.
Sam led the team to another city that was connected to the destroyed city.
While they are going, deep inside the circle, far away from the destroyed city, in a city, the
Poseidon team has converted the lord' mansion into their temporary base. A large 3D model of their current territory is neatly placed in the central hall.
Two people from the Poseidon academy are standing in the center as they discussed their next
strategy.
"The city being destroyed is one thing, I still believe that the gambler academy is out there. Maybe that explosion was part of their plan."
"I don't think so, the team reported that there is not a trace of spiritual energy in the surroundings. There is no way something like that can be escaped.
It must have been a mishap with the city's formation. They tried to operate it with such a small team. That is why they died."
"The new report from Nalvahan indicates that there is a new member joining the Gambler team. I have a strong feeling that it is Sam. If it is him, then there is a big chance they caused
that explosion on purpose."
"Even if he is here, that only means he is also dead. There is no way to create that explosion in
a controlled manner. Even with all the genius he has, it is simply a pipedream.
The energy level of that explosion is beyond his reach.
