Re: Apocalypse Game

Chapter 56 Decision

Chapter 56 Decision

Alan’s main objective had always been to find a way to conquer the seven rounds of the apocalypse game and harness his knowledge to the fullest. Yet, he was acutely aware that achieving this colossal feat couldn’t be accomplished by him alone. He needed the right companions, those who could help him execute his plans with precision.

Naturally, the US military emerged as the ideal choice. A highly disciplined and trained group, they could follow orders without question, marching forward with unwavering determination. However, Alan’s strategic mind understood the potential pitfalls of aligning with such a formidable force. The risk lay in being bound by military orders, possibly jeopardizing the execution of his unconventional and intricate plan. Hence, he had made a particular request: a unit that could operate autonomously.

But as he suspected, even his impressive dual A rank wasn’t enough to grant such a unique request. It was a calculated gamble, an audacious endeavor that stretched the boundaries of conventional possibilities. The outcome was hardly surprising; Alan understood it was akin to aiming for a star in the sky, a long shot with an expected outcome. Nevertheless, he had planted the seed of his intention, believing that a few more extraordinary achievements could sway the odds in his favor.

As Alan’s mind navigated the intricate web of possibilities, his musings were abruptly interrupted by the arrival of Daniel and the rest of the group, who had apparently been waiting for him. Vicky, with her characteristic exuberance, leapt into the conversation, her words bubbling with anticipation. “So, did you decide to join the military after all?”

Alan’s lips curled into a wry smile as he responded, “Nope, I wasn’t accepted.”

His answer was met with incredulous smirks from the others. The notion that someone with a double Rank A like Alan wouldn’t be accepted into the ranks of the US military was hard to digest. However, seeing that the outcome seemed to please the group, they didn’t delve further into the matter.

As the conversation flowed between Alan and his companions, the scene shifted once again as a new group of figures approached them. The voice that broke the air was charged with excitement, calling out Alan’s name with eagerness.

“Alan! Here you are.”

The speaker was none other than Bill, the CEO. Following closely behind him were two towering individuals, each easily approaching the two-meter mark in height. Their physical presence alone indicated that they weren’t Americans, standing out in a distinct manner.

Bill’s attire was a display of opulence, adorned with an array of expensive gear, including weapons and armor. The two men flanking him bore a similar appearance, emphasizing their imposing nature.

The CEO launched into conversation with Alan, his words filled with admiration for Alan’s remarkable achievement on the training ground. However, Alan wasn’t one to be easily swayed by flattery. He tactfully cut off Bill’s praise, producing the [Glock 17] handgun that he had initially borrowed from the CEO in exchange for medical supplies.

“Here is the Glock 17, returned as promised.”

Bill, in a surprising turn of events, dismissed the gesture. He indicated that he no longer required the handgun, allowing Alan to keep it. Instead of dwelling on the returned weapon, Bill shifted the spotlight to the two figures beside him— Igor and Andrey, his hired bodyguards for the game, both were Russian decent.

Due to various circumstances, Bill had been unable to rendezvous with his bodyguards during the initial round of the game. Now, with these hired protectors by his side, he exuded a renewed confidence.

Before long, the CEO unveiled his purpose in approaching Alan.

“So, Alan, I’m here to make a proposition. I’m attempting to convince you to join our party for the upcoming round.”

Bill’s astute business acumen was evident in his pursuit of Alan. As a CEO, he recognized the potential value that Alan brought and attempted to entice him into his new group. Just like before, he dangled the temptation of financial gain as a bait.

However, before Alan could formulate a response, Vicky interjected, asserting that Alan was already committed to their party. Luis and Daniel swiftly joined the conversation, and the situation quickly escalated into a heated exchange between Bill’s proposition and the loyalty Alan felt towards his current companions. 𝗈𝐕𝓵𝐞xt.𝔠𝚘𝓂

Observing the escalating tensions, Alan let out a deep sigh. He realized that he had inadvertently become the epicenter of a verbal battle. Recognizing the need to regain control of the situation, he stepped in to mediate.

Breaking through the growing clamor, Alan firmly declined Bill’s offer, expressing gratitude for the proposition nevertheless. Bill’s initial annoyance was short-lived, swiftly transforming into a more diplomatic stance as he chose not to provoke a further confrontation with Alan. He left Alan with the borrowed handgun as a gesture of goodwill.

Yet, even as Bill’s group departed, Alan’s interaction with his current companions was far from over. His gaze settled on the four individuals in front of him, and he spoke with a tone of determination that caught them off guard.

“I am sorry, but I can’t be part of a party with you all either.”

The statement hung in the air like a sudden gust of wind, causing confusion among his companions. Alan took a moment to explain his reasoning, his words unfolding as he detailed the gravity of his impending plan. He hinted at the unprecedented danger that lay ahead, a risk that he was unwilling to subject his companions to.

Though he didn’t explicitly voice his reservations, the message was unmistakable—Alan considered them inadequate for the challenge he was preparing to face. Even Daniel, someone he had hoped to mentor, hadn’t managed to achieve a minimum C rank on the training ground. Alan had to come to terms with the reality that his companions might not be adequately prepared or skilled for the mission he was envisioning.

“I will provide you with some guidance for the next round, but I cant take you with me. I hope you all can understand.”

The declaration resonated in the air, a mixture of disappointment and understanding settling on the faces of his companions. Amidst the mix of emotions, Vicky’s frustration boiled over, her voice charged with emotion as she challenged Alan’s judgment.

“Who the hell are you to decide what’s best for us?! What’s too risky and what’s not?! This is a death game, and any path we choose could lead to our deaths. You can’t guarantee a thing!!”

Alan was taken aback by the intensity of Vicky’s emotional outburst. He couldn’t help but acknowledge the validity in her words. Her words held truth—their lives hung in the balance, and no one could foresee the consequences of their choices in this deadly game.

Vicky continued, her voice carrying a determined resolve. “I believed you were our best hope to survive, and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to stay in your party. The risk is ours to take… but if you need proof of our skills…”

She paused, her eyes locking onto the monitor panel displaying the training ground scores. Her voice trembled with determination as she spoke again. “B rank!! If I can achieve a B rank, will you accept me into your party?”

Before Alan could formulate a response, Daniel stepped forward with an unwavering conviction. “Yes, Mr. D! Give me another chance—I won’t disappoint you.”

Milo’s presence stood strong beside Daniel, his silent determination mirroring Daniel’s commitment. Luis, though seemingly panicked, echoed their sentiments. His voice trembled slightly as he spoke, “Senor. Alan, please I will… I will try harder.”

Alan found himself facing an unexpected convergence of conviction and loyalty. Their collective determination moved him deeply, and as the weight of their words settled upon him, he began to reconsider. He realized that if they could indeed achieve B rank, it would be an impressive feat, and he agreed to let them be part of his plan.

Amidst the cheers and jubilation of his companions, Alan couldn’t help but recognize the skillful persuasion that Vicky did to change his mind.? As the realization settled in, Alan couldn’t help but chuckle inwardly—It appear he just became a victim of Vicky’s [Speecraft] ability, and he had willingly walked right into it.
