Ranaway From Wedding, Fell into Tycoon's Love Trap
Chapter 1671 Do You Really Hate Seeing Me That Much?
“Fine, whatever.”
Alice Turner had a smile on her face, but it was that polite kind of smile; her attitude, however, was distant.
How could Benjamin Shaw not feel her detachment toward him? He’d known since five years ago that she couldn’t stand him. Back then, he couldn’t stand her either. The two of them were mutually fed up.
But who could have known there would be a day like this, a day when he’d be eaten up with regret.
Ding!
Just then, the elevator stopped.
Alice Turner was the first to step out of the elevator, quickly putting distance between herself and that space that made her feel so awkward.
Looking at her back, Benjamin let out a muffled sigh. With his long legs, he took one stride and followed her out of the elevator.
“There’s a café nearby. Let’s go there and talk.” As they walked out of the building, Alice Turner spoke up before Benjamin could.
Her firm attitude was exactly the same as when they’d been in the office just now. She didn’t want to be led around by him anymore; that was not her way of doing things.
Without waiting for the man to respond, Alice Turner was already heading toward that café, her steps steady and composed. She didn’t care at all whether the man was keeping up.
The woman walked on by herself, not bothering about his opinions or feelings in the slightest. Benjamin felt like he’d been discarded, a cold hollowness opening up in his chest; right then he really wanted to cue up a song called “Freezing Cold” just for himself.
Seeing that she’d already gone ahead, he hurried to catch up. With every step he took, his heart seemed to grow a little colder.
In truth, Alice wasn’t sure Benjamin would definitely follow. After all, five years ago the two of them had parted on very bad terms. When she heard footsteps behind her drawing closer, the anxious knot in her chest slowly eased.
Jingle! Jingle!
There was a wind chime hanging at the café entrance. Because of Alice Turner’s push on the door, the wind chime chimed softly, jingle jingle.
She lifted her head and glanced at the wind chime swaying in midair, the corners of her mouth curving into a faint smile, but she quickly wiped the smile from her face.
Although her smile had come and gone fast, Benjamin still caught it. The coldness in his heart warmed a little because of that fleeting smile.
It was a little after ten in the morning, so there were very few customers in the café. The two of them casually picked a table and sat down.
Neither Alice Turner nor Benjamin Shaw was thinking about the coffee; they both casually ordered a cup for themselves. After the waiter brought the coffee to the table and left, the two of them finally shifted into the business-at-hand mode.
“If you’ve got something to say, say it quickly.”
It was still Alice who spoke first. The moment she opened her mouth she pushed Benjamin to get to the point—she herself was very busy, not to mention that being alone with him really made her feel awkward.
Even though there hadn’t been any real feelings between them, and during the marriage they’d never had any intimate relations, being with him still made her feel inexplicably uncomfortable.
On the way over, Benjamin had already seen clearly what Alice’s attitude toward him was. The way she treated him really made him uncomfortable; a faint irritation even rose in his heart. “Do you really hate seeing me that much?”
He realized that she hated him even more now than she had five years ago.
Five years ago she would still argue with him, still make a scene. But now she couldn’t even be bothered to engage with him—she didn’t even want to look at him.
“Benjamin Shaw! Did you come to me today just to discuss whether I hate you or not? If that’s the case, I don’t think we need to waste each other’s time anymore. After all, neither of us is some bored, idle nobody.” When Alice had heard Benjamin say he wanted to talk about personal matters, she’d already had a rough idea what he wanted to discuss. But what he’d just said really got under her skin.
