Chapter 797 - 797: Astronomical Annual Salary
“Take him to the last carriage!” the train police captain ordered.
“Yes, sir!”
A few young train officers immediately escorted the blood-soaked Jiang Qingshan away, while Li Qianfan had already helped Lin Jingying back to her seat.
The train police captain walked over, first showing concern for Lin Jingying, the celebrity, before directing his piercing gaze toward Li Qianfan.
“Are you a cultivator?” the train police captain asked in a lowered voice.
“Yes, I’m a cultivator. Here’s my identification.”
Li Qianfan smiled as he retrieved his ID and handed it to the train police captain.
The captain took the ID, glanced at it, and immediately stood upright in respect, even saluting Li Qianfan with a crisp clap of his heels.
“So you’re an agent of the Cultivator Administration Bureau’s Da’an City branch. Thank you so much, Mr. Li. You’ve been a tremendous help to us,” the train police captain said gratefully, almost moved to tears.
“You’re welcome, you’re welcome,” Li Qianfan replied.
After exchanging pleasantries for quite some time, the train police captain finally turned and left.
The Jiang Qingshan incident had blown over, restoring calm to the carriage. Yet all the passengers were now casting curious glances at Li Qianfan.
Though the train police captain had spoken in a hushed tone, words like “cultivator” and “bureau” had faintly reached their ears.
So even if they weren’t sure who Li Qianfan was, they instinctively felt he belonged to some secret department in Hua Country, making his identity anything but ordinary.
“How does it feel to play the hero and save the damsel in distress?” Liu Ruyan asked with a sly smile.
“What hero saving who? Don’t be ridiculous.”
Li Qianfan waved her off before slyly turning to Lin Jingying and asking, “So, do I call you Lin Jingying? Or Lin Jiajia?”
“Lin Jiajia was just a fake name I made up on the spot. My real name is Lin Jingying,” Lin Jingying said, embarrassed.
Afterward, Lin Jingying looked at Li Qianfan with deep gratitude, speaking sincerely, “Thank you for stepping in to help. Otherwise, I would have truly been in danger… And, um, I said a lot of unpleasant things earlier and even almost argued with you. That was my fault; I apologize.”
Hearing this, Li Qianfan couldn’t help but feel immensely satisfied.
Lin Jingying, a nationally renowned celebrity, was lowering her head and apologizing to him. He couldn’t help but feel a little giddy.
But Lin Jingying then asked, “Li Xiang, just now the train police captain said you’re an agent with the Cultivator Administration Bureau’s Da’an City branch. What exactly does the Cultivator Administration Bureau do? Is it a secret department in Hua Country specifically for training cultivators? Are you really a cultivator?”
“That’s not something you’re qualified to know,” Li Qianfan responded bluntly.
“I’m not trying to pry into state secrets; I’m just curious. If you can’t say, then forget it,” Lin Jingying quickly said, lowering herself as much as possible.
“I really can’t disclose that information casually,” Li Qianfan replied.
Lin Jingying asked again, “Then why are you and your sister heading to Dadong City? Are you on some sort of secret mission?”
“That’s also not something you should be asking about,” Li Qianfan said.
“Alright, alright. I won’t ask anymore.”
Though her words said she wouldn’t ask, Lin Jingying’s curious expression clearly showed there was a mountain of questions bubbling inside her.
Liu Ruyan interjected, “Lin Jingying, you’re a superstar known throughout the country. Why are you traveling alone on the high-speed train?”
“It’s no big deal to tell you. I’m hosting a concert in Dadong City in a while. Originally, I planned to travel there with my bodyguards and manager. But I wanted to have some fun in Dadong City first, so I left them behind and came alone,” Lin Jingying explained.
“Ah, that makes sense. Maybe little Xiang and I will swing by to watch your concert,” Liu Ruyan said with a teasing smile.
“That would be my honor,” Lin Jingying said excitedly.
Then, turning to Li Qianfan, Lin Jingying hesitated with a “want-to-say-something-but-can’t-find-the-words” look.
“If you’ve got something to say, just spit it out,” Li Qianfan said.
Lin Jingying finally said, “Li Xiang, if possible, I would like to… um… hire you as my bodyguard.”
“What? You want me to be your bodyguard?” Li Qianfan was taken aback, then burst out laughing.
Liu Ruyan frowned slightly and said, “Sorry, but we’re very busy.”
“We really are busy. I’m afraid I can’t agree to your request,” Li Qianfan echoed.
But Lin Jingying was unwilling to give up. Now that she knew Li Qianfan was a cultivator, how could she possibly pass up such a golden opportunity?
So she quickly added, “I know you’re busy. I’m not asking you to stick to me 24/7. Surely you have some free time now and then. If you agree to be my bodyguard, I can offer you an annual salary of five million.”
Right out of the gate, Lin Jingying offered five million annual salary!
Truly a superstar—a generous one at that!
But Li Qianfan was unbothered, replying, “Sorry, five million doesn’t mean much to me.”
“Eight million!” Lin Jingying countered.
Li Qianfan still shook his head.
“Ten million!”
Li Qianfan smiled without responding.
Gritting her teeth, Lin Jingying said, “Fifteen million!”
Liu Ruyan interrupted, “Enough already. Stop asking. He really can’t take on your bodyguard job to ensure your safety; we truly have a mission to complete.”
Lin Jingying sighed, her face full of disappointment.
Meanwhile, in Da’an City—
A luxurious Ferrari sports car pulled up in front of the Central Villa at Emperor Garden.
The car door opened, and an elegantly dressed woman stepped out gracefully. She walked to the door and rang the bell.
It was none other than Yang Lirong, the female CEO who had come all the way from Taoyuan County to Da’an City.
As the clear sound of the doorbell echoed, Ah Hua came out of the villa, looking curiously at Yang Lirong and asking, “Who are you looking for?”
“I’m looking for Li Qianfan. Does he live here?” Yang Lirong asked, while discreetly sizing up Ah Hua, trying to guess what her relationship with Li Qianfan was.
“You’re looking for him? He’s not here. He left for Dadong City this morning and should be about there by now,” Ah Hua replied.
Yang Lirong’s smile froze at once.
A moment later, she burst out with a sharp cry, “What did you say? He went to Dadong City?”
“Yeah,” Ah Hua nodded.
“How outrageous!”
Yang Lirong’s hands clenched into tight fists, trembling slightly, her knuckles turning white from the force. Her face was full of resentment, and her eyes burned like two raging flames.
“Who are you? Why are you looking for Li Qianfan? What are you to him?” Ah Hua asked suspiciously.
“And who are you? What are you to him?” Yang Lirong countered.
“I’m his girlfriend. We currently live together,” Ah Hua said, hands on her hips.
