Chapter 779 - 779: Doing Whatever One Desires
Jiang WanYun and Liu Ruyan naturally turned their gazes toward it as well.
They both sensed it, a faint fluctuation of True Qi emanating from this auction item, though not very prominent, was continuous.
There was no doubt, this auction item was far from ordinary.
It was a Spiritual Artifact!
“A Spiritual Artifact actually appearing at this auction?” Jiang WanYun’s face revealed a look of curiosity.
Liu Ruyan also said, “Maybe we’re just in luck to come across it.”
Although Li Qianfan didn’t say much, he was at this moment earnestly observing the auction item.
It was a small and exquisite scroll, around thirty centimeters in length.
“It seems to be some kind of calligraphy or painting.” Li Qianfan stated.
“Many artifacts of the calligraphy and painting type are related to Illusion Techniques,” Jiang WanYun said.
“Illusion Techniques…”
Li Qianfan murmured to himself, his face showing intense interest.
Seeing Li Qianfan like this, Liu Ruyan and Jiang WanYun knew he had developed a strong interest and would likely join the bidding.
“Ladies and gentlemen, please have a look, this is the eleventh auction item of this event… the Wordless Scroll!”
The female auctioneer said as she opened the scroll, displaying it for all the attendees to admire.
Upon unrolling, the scroll revealed a piece of white cloth, one meter long and thirty centimeters wide.
The white cloth was completely blank, akin to an untouched expanse of snow, pure and unblemished.
“What’s so special about an empty scroll?”
“Are they trying to fool us with this, thinking we’re idiots?”
“Exactly, it’s ridiculous!”
“Our money didn’t come from being blown in by the wind!”
The guests present began to express their discontent; in their view, this blank scroll lacked any content, thus it was worthless.
However, Liu Ruyan, Jiang WanYun, and Li Qianfan all clearly understood that this blank scroll was a Spiritual Artifact—the lack of content on it was irrelevant, as there must be more to it than meets the eye!
The female auctioneer revealed a mysterious smile and said, “Do not underestimate this scroll; though it may appear to have nothing on it, this scroll is impervious to fire and water. It is quite extraordinary.”
“Fireproof and waterproof? Are you sure?” a guest asked loudly.
“I can demonstrate it for you right now.”
No sooner had the auctioneer spoken than a female staff member came out from backstage, setting up an alcohol lamp and a basin of water on the table.
The auctioneer lit the alcohol lamp, then placed the unrolled scroll on top of the flame to burn it.
She burned it for a full half-minute, yet the flame of the alcohol lamp could not set the scroll on fire; the white cloth of the scroll remained pure and flawless, without any damage or scorch marks.
“It really doesn’t catch fire?”
“Could it be some kind of new fireproof material?”
The guests discussed amongst themselves.
The auctioneer then completely immersed the scroll in the basin of water, even scrubbing it as if washing clothes a few times.
But when she fished the scroll out of the water basin, all the water on the scroll flowed away, and the scroll itself was still clean and very dry, without a single drop of moisture left!
“See, it does not ignite in fire, nor does it get wet with water washing, this Wordless Scroll can indeed be said to be impervious to both fire and water!”
“So, even though there is nothing written on this scroll, it has great intrinsic value, and perhaps it contains some secret!”
“Now, the bidding for this scroll starts, with a starting price of three million, and each increase must not be less than a hundred thousand!”
The female auctioneer announced the start of the auction, but not a single guest placed a bid.
Although the scroll’s imperviousness to water and fire is indeed miraculous, who would spend money on something of unknown purpose and use?
Moreover, several million is not a small amount!
The guests present, though all elites of Da’an City, be they wealthy or powerful, wouldn’t foolishly throw away millions!
As minutes went by with still no one placing a bid, the female auctioneer on stage was getting anxious.
Li Qianfan whispered, “Do you want it? If you don’t, then I’ll place a bid.”
Liu Ruyan and Jiang WanYun could obviously tell that Li Qianfan was very interested, so they shook their heads together.
“I’ll pass; I need to save my money to bid for the Red Blood Spirit Root,” said Jiang WanYun.
Liu Ruyan then patted Li Qianfan’s thigh and said, “Go ahead and bid if you want it; don’t mind me, I wouldn’t compete with you for this Spiritual Artifact no matter what.”
Thus, Li Qianfan no longer hesitated, placed Hei Yue on Liu Ruyan’s lap, stood up, and raised his paddle, saying, “Since no one wants this Wordless Scroll, then I will…”
“Three million; I’ll take it.”
A woman’s voice echoed throughout the hall, completely drowning out Li Qianfan’s.
Li Qianfan then turned his head to look; his expression soured immediately.
The bidder was none other than that white-clad woman who combined ancient and modern style!
It was at this moment that Li Qianfan realized he had underestimated the situation. If he, Liu Ruyan, and Jiang WanYun could see the extraordinariness of the Wordless Scroll, of course, the white-clad woman could too!
After all, she too was a cultivator, and a formidable one at that!
“You want it too?” The white-clad woman looked over at Li Qianfan.
“Indeed, I do want it,” Li Qianfan replied.
“I’d advise you not to compete with me; otherwise, you’ll regret it,” the white-clad woman snorted.
“Sorry, I was raised fearless; I’ve never been scared of others’ threats or intimidation,” he retorted.
Li Qianfan then turned to the stage and shouted, “I bid 3.3 million!”
“3.5 million!” the white-clad woman countered without hesitation.
“3.8 million,” Li Qianfan declared.
“4 million!” The white-clad woman raised the bid again.
“4.5 million!”
“5 million!”
“5.5 million!”
“6 million!”
The white-clad woman had followed up to 6 million, leaving the entire audience astounded.
The female auctioneer on stage was ecstatic to the extreme.
Just moments ago, she was worried about the Wordless Scroll being unsold, but now, suddenly, two people were bidding like crazy, rocketing the price sky-high; her breath quickened with excitement!
But even more thrilling was yet to come!
“10 million!”
Li Qianfan declared loudly, giving the white-clad woman a determined look.
The auctioneer was so delighted she wanted to rush over and hug Li Qianfan, for as the auctioneer, she would get a commission!
If Li Qianfan successfully bid 10 million for the Wordless Scroll, she would pocket a handsome commission, at least tens of thousands!
“Are you trying to clash with me to the bitter end?” the white-clad woman said coldly.
“An auction is where the highest bidder wins. If you don’t have the money, tuck your tail and scram!” Li Qianfan said unapologetically.
“You’re really annoying. Do you think you can do whatever you want just because you have money?” the white-clad woman sneered.
