Chapter 278: Ch 277: Be as free as possible

  • Next Chapter

Kael did not like the idea of sealing Seraphina’s powers. He wanted her to be as free as possible.

However, he also understood that there were things in life he was not going to get just because he wanted them. And Seraphina’s current condition was a cause for concern.

"I know you don’t like this idea, but it would be for the best if she does not get to use her powers."

Leon insisted without telling Kael the reason behind his decision. But he was smart enough to realize that an accident must have happened for Leon to suggest such a decision.

Kael nodded to show that he understood, but the unhappy frown remained on his face.

Leon went into Seraphina’s room first, and Kael waited 15 minutes for Leon to return. But when Leon did return, he looked pale-faced, and his breath was labored.

It was clear that he had spent a great deal of energy dealing with Seraphina, but he looked proud of himself.

"It should be fine for you to meet her now. Just...don’t get your hopes up too much. Seraphina is still not in a condition where she can receive guests properly."

Leon told him, and Kael nodded before he knocked on Seraphina’s door. There was no answer, and Kael opened the door slowly.

Seraphina was sleeping on the bed, and for a minute, she looked like she was dead. But her chest was moving up and down, which reassured Kael that she was still alive.

Leon’s energy pulsed around her, and as Kael approached the sleeping figure, his heart started to beat faster and faster.

He could feel the familiar presence of corruption clinging to Seraphina, and it was slowly growing.

"Leon, did Seraphina act differently before she fell unconscious?"

Kael asked, and Leon looked like he was having a hard time keeping it to himself. He looked at Kael before sighing and nodding his head.

"She was behaving weirdly...Do you know what is going on here?"

Leon did not look happy about the fact that Kael knew what was happening. But he was also curious about the truth, so he put his feelings aside and asked this question.

Kael looked at Seraphina’s unconscious body as he answered Leon.

"The corruption found a way to be reborn in this world by fragmenting its soul. You can gather everyone else, and I can tell you what the corruption is. That way, you will understand what is happening better."

Kael told Leon, who nodded and turned around. But the second he tried to walk out of the room, Seraphina’s powers exploded, and her powers tried to cover the whole room...

Or they tried to, but they collided with the barrier around her body, getting trapped inside.

Leon quickly looked back as his barrier was strained by the effort of containing Seraphina’s powers inside. It was hard for him to keep it up, but Leon was able to maintain it flawlessly.

Seraphina looked like she was in pain as she yelled. Her eyes looked at Kael in a begging manner, asking him to do something for her.

But Kael had nothing he could do for her except look at her. He was afraid that he might make things worse if he were to approach her right now.

"K-Kael...help..."

The female begged as she tried to reach for him. But Kael just took a step back and shook his head. He was not sure he wanted to help Seraphina out.

Her look of betrayal pierced his heart, but Kael knew that it was not Seraphina talking, but the corruption.

"W-Why won’t you help me? Don’t you see how much pain I am in? I need your help..."

Seraphina begged, and for the first time, Kael decided to answer her.

"You do not need my help. You just want to control me by putting me beside you. I don’t think that is the healthiest way to cope. Also, leave Seraphina alone. She has nothing to do with this."

Kael told the corruption, and it went quiet for a minute before it began to laugh at him.

"Nothing to do with this...you say? Then, what can you say about the fact that this body wanted this? It wanted power, so I gave it to her. In exchange, she had to contain my soul and gather my fragments."

Seraphina’s voice sounded odd, with the hint of corruption tinging it. But Kael just felt irritated instead of scared of that voice.

"Stop being a fool and give her body back to her. This will be your last warning."

Kael told the corruption, which just sighed back at him.

"You are such a mess. You don’t even know what you want. You don’t want me to leave Seraphina alone; you just don’t want to feel guilty that you failed her. But what if I told you that this is the best condition Seraphina has ever been in? I can-"

Leon hit Seraphina’s body from the side, and his holy power made the corruption flinch.

The opening he gave Seraphina’s spirit was enough for her to fight back.

"Ugh! You stupid bastard! Stop trying to control me. I am not your toy!"

Seraphina was back, and she was forcing the corruption back as well. It was a hard-fought battle, but in the end, Seraphina was able to heighten her divine power and force the corruption back inside.

This was a temporary fix, and the corruption would be back soon. But for now, it felt nice to have some time to herself. She could think properly, and she looked at Kael and Leon with her eyes filled with gratitude.

"What the hell, Seraphina? How can you let corruption control you? Do you have any idea how much danger you put Kael and us all in?"

Leon asked in an annoyed voice. He did not inquire about Seraphina’s safety, which made Kael feel sorry for his female student. So he decided to be the one to ask her how she was feeling.

"Don’t mind Leon’s words, Seraphina. He is being like this because he is worried about you. Now, about your body...how do you feel?"
