Chapter 230: Ch 229: A Perfect Fit

’Finally, I got hold of someone who can take on the elf tree’s power without fainting. Our plan might actually work now.’

Kana had a lot of doubts about her current plan, and she was not even sure if it was going to work. The biggest problem she faced was the nature of the elf tree.

It was a fickle thing, refusing to accept the elves while gatekeeping its power. Selene’s birth had been nothing short of a miracle, but even she had succumbed to the power of the elf tree in the end. And she had been born as a high elf.

So Kana knew that no normal elf would be able to endure it, and the elf tree also refused to choose an elf to inherit its power...

That was...until now.

Somehow, those visitors from outside had been a stroke of luck, and their compatibility with the elf tree was off the charts. Kana knew it was time to use this situation to her advantage, so she tried to convince the chosen person to join her side.

But her plan had been foiled by that man’s companion. She had pulled him away from his destiny, and she had even dared to defy Kana.

Just thinking about it made her blood boil...

"No, let’s calm down. I need to show them that I am a calm and composed person. That way, they will trust me more and listen to what I have to say."

The allure of the elf tree was already too much for any normal elf to handle. Added to the fact that they looked poor and were outsiders, Kana was sure she would win them over.

Just thinking about the bright future awaiting the elves made her grin even wider.

"What are you thinking about? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you this happy."

Adrian asked from the other side of the room, his eyes narrowing in suspicion. But Kana ignored him as she continued basking in her happiness.

"There is no need for you to know. Just think of it as me finding the solution to one of my biggest problems."

Kana assured him, which made Adrian frown. But he chose not to say anything for now.

She had to admit that he was a good companion. He was quiet and did not question her most of the time. And most importantly—he had betrayed his brother to help Kana.

But she was still not sure she could trust him completely.

’I will have to check on those prisoners tomorrow and get rid of them. I don’t think they will be a problem anymore, but you can never be too careful...’

Unfortunately, she did not get a chance to check on them because Kael decided to set his plan in motion that very night.

"Are we going back to our cage now?"

This was the first thing Leon said once they were outside, and Kael almost choked on the water he was drinking.

He had not expected those words to come out of Leon, but they did remind him that it was not over yet. They had gotten lucky that no one had checked on them yet, and Kael’s magic was still holding up.

But he was not sure how much longer the illusion would last...

"You are right. We cannot afford to waste any more time here. We need to put an end to this rebellion as soon as possible. Seraphina, do you have any idea what we can do about the elf tree?"

Kael asked the Saintess, and she wore a troubled expression.

"Usually, I would tell you that I can purify it, but this time it will be difficult. We have no choice but to destroy the tree completely and grow it again from scratch. I think I can at least purify one of its seeds."

The doubt in Seraphina’s voice was unsettling, and the possibility that they could fail was even worse.

But it was still better to try than to sit back and watch everything fall apart around them...

"Let’s do it tonight. I will send Lyra a message and have her distract the elves. She and Elena can handle it. Meanwhile, we can sneak into the elf tree’s enclosure and take care of it."

Kael had a feeling they only had a few days left to pull this off, so he decided not to hesitate any longer.

Both Seraphina and Leon nodded, and he quickly wrote a message and sent it out.

Lyra and Elena were his only hopes for now, and he hoped they would be able to pull this attack off.

"Lyra, stop drinking. You are going to ruin your appetite."

Elena grabbed the glass of beer from Lyra, and the demon queen instantly protested and tried to snatch it back.

"Hey! Don’t take it away! I just want to drink my sorrow away. Why won’t Kael ask me for help when I’m right here? This isn’t fair!"

Lyra complained as she slammed her glass onto the table and grumbled. She looked irritated, and Elena had a feeling the alcohol had something to do with it.

But then again, Lyra usually acted like a kid whenever she did not get what she wanted. So it was nothing new.

"Tsk, you’re making fun of me in your head, aren’t you? Get your mind straight before I do it for you."

Lyra threatened, but Elena already knew she would not do anything. She had never acted against Elena before, so she was unlikely to start now either.

Still, Elena understood Lyra’s frustration. She felt just as frustrated about being left behind by Kael and being put on standby.

She was busy lamenting her fate when she sensed Kael’s magic. She opened the window, only to see a messenger bird land on her finger.

"This is..."

She opened the message, and her eyes instantly hardened.

"Miss Elena, we have a message from Kael. He has given us a mission. Shall we get going?"

And just like that, Lyra sprang back to her feet with an energetic look in her eyes.

"Let’s go."
