"If you think I am going to fall for your provocations, then you are wrong! I have no intention of falling to corruption."

Kael looked up with a resolute expression before renewing his divine barrier. And this stubbornness made the calamity sigh wearily.

"Well, it looks like you have made your decision. Very well. I will honor it."

The calamity acknowledged his decision, but that did not mean it was not going to do things its way.

Selene’s body slammed its wrists against the holy barrier, and the blood that flowed from her body started to break the barrier down.

"You will become a part of us by force, and once we are one, there will be no going back."

The calamity promised, and Kael prepared himself to run. But the calamity started to transform the terrain around him, intending to trap him.

"Become one! That is our wish. Come and help our cause-"

"Tsk, stay away from Mother."

Bones emerged from the ground to hold Selene’s body in place, and Elena quickly appeared on the scene. She panted as she held her powers in place, causing the calamity to turn its head toward her.

"Do you think you can stop me-?"

"She can’t. But I sure as hell can."

Leon yelled as he buried his holy sword inside Selene’s chest. It caused the calamity to stagger, and the divine wound refused to close.

"You-!"

"Are not going anywhere."

Seraphina whispered as her barrier snapped into place, trapping the calamity inside the holy space. Her barrier had much less room to move around and a much purer concentration of divine energy, making it far more effective.

The difference between Seraphina’s holy power and Kael’s was like night and day, and it made the calamity grit its teeth.

But it was not done speaking and causing chaos.

"You all are protectors of humanity, right? Then why would you take the side of someone who will become the end of the elves? You should be helping me instead-"

"Tsk, I think there has been a mistake here. I don’t know why everyone keeps expecting us to save the world when we never signed up for it. Don’t you think it’s unfair?"

Leon asked, his sword flashing with divine magic as he swung a wave of divine energy toward Selene’s body.

The calamity was stuck inside Seraphina’s divine barrier, unable to move. But that did not stop her from trying to break free.

"Ugh! But you are the chosen ones. You are the ones who have the power to help. So why won’t you-"

"My power is mine, and only I get to decide how to use it. I will use it to protect someone I want to protect, and if I want to destroy something, I will do it without worrying about the consequences. That is what being powerful means. I don’t care about responsibility and such! I already lived that life, and I decided I no longer wanted it."

Seraphina approached the calamity, and each step she took purified the area. She was like a goddess of spring making a beautiful entrance.

If a human saw her, they would mistake her for an angel. But to the calamity, she felt more like a demon that had come to bring about its end.

"Tsk, such selfishness. Why do you get to have this happy ending-"

"It’s your own fault. We offered you a helping hand once to reverse your fate, but you refused. Now, you no longer have any right to complain when you chose this destiny yourself."

Seraphina whispered into Selene’s ear before her immense divine power started to purify the area.

But Selene’s body was still moving, causing Leon to walk toward her and drive his sword through her heart.

"May you find peace in death."

Leon prayed as he finally liberated Selene, and her face looked peaceful in death.

Kael felt sorry for her, but he also felt relieved at the same time to see that Selene was finally dead.

His body lost all strength, and Kael leaned against Elena’s shoulder to steady himself. He was about to thank her for helping when he felt a hand gripping his shoulder.

One second, he was standing firmly, and the next, he was being shaken violently by someone.

"What do you think you were doing? Why did you decide to leave in the middle of the night? Do you think this was funny? What if something had happened to you? Mother, you are way too reckless."

Elena’s anger was evident on her face, but she was not the only one who looked angry.

Kael could see annoyed looks on Leon and Seraphina’s faces, and he had a feeling he would not be allowed to be alone or go out for quite some time.

So he quickly looked around, trying to change the subject.

"It’s nice to see you all...where is Iris? And we need to help Lyra! She went to call you all, but I’m not sure if she reached you or not-"

Seraphina grabbed his face and forced him to look directly into her eyes. They were blank and bottomless, making Kael fall silent. He felt like he should say something, but the words failed him.

"Don’t think this is over by any means. You decided to go out in the middle of the night without telling anyone. Do you think you get to come back as if nothing happened?"

Seraphina asked in a cold voice, and it made Kael flinch.

He had never heard her speak like this, and for the first time since his rebirth, he felt like he should give Seraphina some space to calm down...

But she was not letting go of his face. Her eyes were too dark for Kael to even suggest anything.

"Teacher, don’t try to think of ways to escape, alright? I will tell you what is going to happen, and you are going to nod and follow my instructions, alright?"

She asked, and Kael felt like a puppet on strings as he nodded at her words.

Finally, Seraphina let out a smile, but it looked just as sinister as her eyes.
