Chapter 900: Bringing out the Trump Cards

WHOOSH

The mouths of the audience hung low as they watched the laser swing in all directions.

The gods had already scattered in different directions, trying to stay as far away from the deadly beam as possible.

The sound of the attacks filled the surroundings, leaving almost no room for calm. Dust and fragments moved through the air as everyone struggled to keep track of the rapidly changing battlefield. The tension only continued to rise around them.

"Turn it off!! You Book bastard, go do it!!" the eyeless burly god roared, as his arm got sliced off, making him wince.

"I- I will try!" the book god was barely dodging the laser, as he tried to get close to the cannon.

But how could Vritra and Onest allow it? They cut off the path, positioning Shitless between the book god and the cannon.

The beam continued on for five attacks, since the power of the laser was so high that even if the gods were grazed by it, they would be badly hurt.

Most gods were still difficult to kill, but at the 4th attack, they finally managed to kill the giant burly god.

Or rather, subdue him for now, as Vanessa stored him away too.

Now only seven gods remained, one of which was badly injured, the book god who had tried several times to get close to the cannon.

The instrument goddess and baby god were slightly injured, but the rest were mostly fine.

Finally, the six attacks came to an end, so the dizzy Shitless was put down to his feet.

Even after that violent barrage, everyone was still tense, knowing that the battle had far from reached its end.

"W- What absurdity is going on with this match?!" the sparrow, who was certain of his victory, stood up and shouted.

He glanced towards the judges, and wanted to ask them to disqualify Vritra’s team for cheating.

But even till now, he hadn’t found how they were cheating.

So, after grumbling, he was respectfully shoved down by the guards there.

Vritra and the rest had already returned to their peak state, all earlier injuries gone too.

"Now only 7 remain, can we defeat them?" Yennefer asked, getting ready to reengage in the war.

"It would still be tough, they must have other trump cards that they hadn’t used." Fiona replied, her battle IQ was quite high by now.

Not to mention, as time was passing, their strength was increasing.

So there really was a chance of victory if they could hold on for long enough.

But, how could the gods who had been in power for so long not have any backers?

Especially since so many higher beings had put their bets on them.

That gave the gods something to still hold onto for confidence, from the beginning. Despite all the things they had done, Vritra and the others stood no chance.

’That is what they are probably thinking.’ Vritra smiled to himself. Although there were ups and downs, now they had returned to the correct path of their plan.

"Attack!" he gave a shout before rushing at full speed towards the sun god.

The rest glanced at one another and flew towards their opponents, but now that the biggest, weak, old, and giant gods were gone.

Three people were free and they could help others.

Thus, as the battle restarted, it seemed more like a draw with both sides pushing back and forth.

For a moment, neither side could properly tell who held the advantage anymore. The surviving gods were still powerful, but their earlier confidence had clearly weakened, while Vritra and the others had become more coordinated with every passing moment. The balance was shifting slowly, but it was shifting.

Neither side was willing to give the other even a moment of rest, and every opening was immediately met with another attack.

The gods couldn’t gain the upper hand without bringing out their trump cards while the other side didn’t have any trump cards left.

Maeve and Yasmine faced the shadow goddess, Teresa faced the injured book god, Vanessa and Fiona faced the instrument goddess.

Diana faced the smallest god while Yennefer fought against the baby god, who wasn’t as confident as before.

Lastly, Shitless and Onest faced the rope god, who was having a rough time against the two.

"H- How can this be? Why is the victory becoming more and more difficult?" the sparrow felt fear for the first time, wondering if there was a chance the gods could really lose.

He stood up again only to be shoved back down by a kick from the crying monk.

Evelyn, who was seated beside Ava, took a deep breath.

’It is time, they are going to lose soon.’ she thought and stood up, disappearing from the arena in the next moment.

She knew that those ten were rapidly burning up their mana, going past their limits. This state won’t last long.

And at any moment now, the gods would bring out their final trump cards.

Although they won’t be on the level of higher beings, they would be enough to kill them all.

She quietly watched the battle one last time before turning away, her expression remaining calm despite what she already knew was coming.

So, she left quietly, just according to their plan.

Among the four judges, two were sleeping, one was scolding his son and the son was still waiting for Evelyn.

Ryder, floating high in the air, was looking at the entire battle.

’What a magnificent war, I never thought anyone could force these gods to this state. Alas, they are still underprepared, this is no longer about personal strength but connections.’

He sighed, but since it wasn’t against the rules, he couldn’t do anything.

"Let’s finish this off, the longer we wait the more surprises those weaklings will bring." The sun god said, seeing the state of their group.

They still had the overall advantage in a long battle, but having seen all those random and absurd changes made him wary.

’What if they got another cheat, I have to quickly eliminate them.’ The sun god gritted his teeth.

Previously he hoped to defeat the other party without using these trump cards, since the price would be too high.

But there was no choice.

This help came from the higher beings called Holy Righteous Heresy, from two of the commanders.

The ninth and the newest commander had both approached them, giving benefits right before the war and putting some conditions.

Hearing those absurd conditions, they didn’t want to accept, of course.

It was like becoming a slave to the other party, signing their life away. At least for now they aren’t like that.

’But which of the two commanders should I choose?’ While battling Vritra, he fell into a deep thought.

The condition of the newest commander was certainly not as harsh as the ninth one.

But it was an intuition. He felt that the new commander was more dangerous and had hidden motives.

So, after discussion, all of them had voted for the 9th commander.

’But let’s use both, and make them fight. In that, we can reap the benefits!’ the sun god suddenly had a vicious look on his face.

Sensing the change, the other gods all looked on with anguish at their opponents. Finally, it was time for revenge.
