I didn’t know who she had heard it from, but Lily was hitting a good point.

"I seeee— men have it hard—!"

"If you think so, then extract it for him."

Lily said something understanding. Yes, Stevie, extract it for me!

"No way! Lily should do it! I don’t want to!"

Stevie’s words were unexpectedly cold. That was too much — she had extracted it for me this morning.

"I don’t want to either. Stevie is watching."

"Eeh! If Lily does it and teaches me, that would be fine, right?"

"No. That is a secret technique that must never leave the family. I decided to take it with me to the grave, fufun."

After that we were treated the same way in similar towns and passed through them. In every town the word "prosperity" felt distant; my first impression seemed to have been correct.

The town just before the border was the capital of a margraviate, and as expected this town was large and surrounded by walls. If the Mainz Kingdom were to invade, this town would become the front line, so both the height and thickness of the walls were sufficient. If this town fell, it would be a straight run to the royal capital. Was this really all right, Marie Kingdom?

Because my arrival in the margraviate capital had been announced in advance, the margrave’s wife came out to greet me. The margrave himself was said to be in the royal capital. I didn’t think I had ever met him, but who knows?

The margrave’s wife was, as expected, a beautiful woman whose very presence seemed to brighten the place. She herself guided me to the margrave’s mansion. When I reached out to embrace her, my hand was stopped.

"Robby-sama, please don’t sleep-talk. An emergency seems to have occurred. Please prepare to leave the mansion!"

"What!?"

I woke up in an instant. Lily and Stevie were not in their usual maid uniforms, nor in sleeping clothes; they were in their night-outing outfits — black upper and lower jackets and trousers.

"What emergency?"

"In the middle of the night someone entered the mansion. The inside of the mansion is in an uproar."

When told that I strained my ears. Hmm, there were occasional small sounds, but it did not seem like an uproar.

"I don’t hear any loud sounds."

"It has become quiet now, but earlier voices could be heard."

"What happened?"

"I don’t know, but I think it is best to prepare for the worst."

"That’s true."

In situations like this it was best to leave it to Lily and simply move as I was told.

"Thinking of the worst case, I went to the carriage earlier and brought the things necessary for going to the Mainz Kingdom."

Lily said, but she held nothing in her hands.

"Stevie and I put them in our mana bags and brought them. Could you please take those things, Robby-sama? If Stevie or I are holding them and we die, the contents of the mana bags will be lost. We want Robby-sama to hold the important items."

What Lily was saying between the lines was that even if we were attacked by enemies and faced the worst situation, Lily and Stevie would sacrifice themselves so that I could escape. Even if I became separated from the two of them, as long as I held those things I could go alone to the Mainz Kingdom, show the documents proving I was a prince, and be recognized as ambassador.

Lily and Stevie took the luggage out of their mana bags and lined it up.

"Am I to hold all of this?"

"Yes. Please store as much as will fit into your mana bag. Anything that does not fit we will carry. They are arranged in order of importance from the far side. As a guideline we would like you to take up to about this point."

Using the place Lily indicated as a target I casually stored them, and even after passing that guideline there was still room. In the end I was able to put everything in.

Lily and Stevie were surprised.

"Then Robby-sama, could you also take the food? That is your portion."

I stored the things the two of them produced as well. It became almost full.

"Then shall we go outside?"

Lily took the lead, opened the window, grabbed onto the eaves of the roof from there, and climbed onto the roof. Stevie and I followed.

When we climbed onto the roof, almost every window of the mansion was lit.
