Quick Transmigration Cannon Fodder’s Record of Counterattacks
Chapter 3638: Ghosts Everywhere (10)
If Ning Shu were hit by that foul, corrosive liquid, her bones would likely dissolve instantly. She would become part of the fluid, adding her own energy to the mass.
Ning Shu could already sense the presence of a wicked, malevolent spirit within that energy.
It had probably dissolved other people before.
Was this real or virtual?
Ning Shu felt lost again.
The disgusting toxic gas made her feel weak. She dodged a jet of liquid, stepped onto a chair, grabbed Song Mo’s hand, and tumbled out of the window.
“Sss…” Song Mo hissed in pain as Ning Shu landed on top of him. The ground was covered in shattered glass.
Ning Shu shook her head. She felt pained and dizzy. As she’d inhaled the toxic gas, her vision was doubling.
“Are you okay?” Song Mo asked.
Ning Shu scrambled off him. As she looked at him, she suddenly felt an impulse to kiss him.
Just kiss him.
Ning Shu was baffled.
What is the “me” inside this body doing at a time like this?
She blinked at Song Mo. He was frowning deeply, but when he saw her staring, he offered a slight smile.
Ning Shu quickly cleared her head. Are we doing a romance subplot now?
Song Mo reached out and cupped the back of her head. He applied pressure and pulled her toward him. He tilted his head and leaned in for a kiss.
Ning Shu’s heart hammered against her ribs. She felt as if she were lying on a bed of clouds—soft, floaty, and untethered from the ground.
This dream was getting a bit sensual…
She couldn’t even control her own body. She watched as Song Mo’s lips drew closer. She could feel his warm breath, carrying the scent of hormones.
Ning Shu’s reaction was unexpected.
“Oh, ho, ho, ho…”
A bizarre, awkward laugh escaped her throat.
Song Mo went stiff.
His lip twitched as he let go of her. Ning Shu scrambled up and pulled off her corroded shoes. Her skin had actually fused with the material. Peeling them off was agonizing.
The skin came away, revealing raw, tender flesh.
Charred on the outside, tender on the inside. How delicious, she thought sarcastically.
Song Mo had gotten out first. While his feet hadn’t been badly corroded, his back was peppered with glass shards.
“Don’t move. I’ll help you get those shards out,” Ning Shu told him.
Song Mo looked at her intently for a moment, then nodded and turned around.
Ning Shu looked at the glass. She used a knife she had grabbed from the lab to help pry the fragments out.
Song Mo’s face contorted in pain, his fists clenched tight. After carefully removing the shards, Ning Shu said, “Should we try to escape the campus?”
If they just stayed here and endured this, they were essentially waiting to die.
Against things like these, they needed high-powered weapons.
Even though Ning Shu suggested leaving, she knew in her heart that they might not be able to get out at all.
Song Mo was drenched in a cold sweat. He wiped the moisture from his eyes and said, “I don’t know if we can make it out. Let’s go find the president. We should go to the administration building.”
Ning Shu looked at her mangled, bloody feet. Every step felt like walking on a blade—and the sharp edge of the blade at that. To walk all the way to the administration building… Was the president some kind of Ultraman who could solve all these demons and monsters?
Earlier, she had the Fengyou Essence, but now she had nothing. After staying here for so long, Ning Shu was starting to feel the distortion of time and space. She felt a sense of trance because it was becoming hard to distinguish between what was fake and what was real.
This was a very dangerous and painful situation. It meant her mind was failing, confusing reality with illusion.
Ning Shu worried that if she stayed in this distorted place forever, being tortured day and night by horrific things, she would eventually lose her sanity.
She’d turn into a total lunatic!
“What are we looking for the president for?” Ning Shu asked Song Mo. “Are you scared?”
“Of course I’m scared. Everyone wants to live. Don’t worry, I’ll definitely protect you,” Song Mo said. “Trust me, we will get through this alive.”
Ugh. Why did this sound like a typical dialogue between the male and female leads of a disaster movie?
Ning Shu asked him, “Why do you think these monsters appeared? And why only in the campus? I wonder if monsters are running rampant outside the gates too. What has become of our world?”
These monsters likely only existed within the campus. The situation outside was probably just a fog because it hadn’t been rendered yet.
Song Mo frowned. “I don’t know. The most important thing right now is to find the president so he can call for help.”
Ning Shu countered, “With such a huge commotion at the campus, how could the president not know?”
The campus had been turned upside down and students were being bitten to death by monsters. It would make no sense for the president not to know. It was completely illogical.
Or perhaps the ‘president’ hadn’t even been rendered into existence yet.
This was a virtual world with a chaotic, unstable magnetic field. It was something fabricated, perhaps the conscious world of the entrustor.
That was the only way to explain the lack of logic and the things that had no explanation.
“Why do we have to find the president?” Ning Shu asked again. Was this some kind of side quest?
Song Mo rubbed his temples and looked at her. “What else can we do besides finding the president? Just wait here to die?”
Ning Shu could sense his irritation. She simply said, “I’m not going. My feet hurt, and I’ve been chased all over the place. Even if I’m going to die, let me rest for a bit.”
Song Mo looked at her bloody feet. “I’ll carry you.”
“No need. Your back is covered in cuts and wounds. If I press against your back, it’ll be torture. Besides, you won’t be able to run fast with me on your back, and these monsters are incredibly quick.” Except for the zombies.
But who knew if the zombies might suddenly mutate? Anything was possible here.
“So we just wait here to die?” Song Mo was getting agitated. Finally, he said to Ning Shu, “I feel like there’s something wrong with the world we’re in.”
Ning Shu arched an eyebrow. “What makes you say that?”
“I don’t know. It just feels… unreal. We have to leave. Maybe finding the president will lead to a solution,” Song Mo said.
“Taking action is better than waiting here to die.” Song Mo crouched down and signaled for Ning Shu to climb onto his back.
Ning Shu thought about it. Ignoring the pain in her feet, she leaned onto his back. Song Mo hissed—her weight clearly aggravated the wounds on his back.
Song Mo used the wall for support to stand up. He hooked his hands under Ning Shu’s legs and began heading down toward the administration building.
The university campus was simply too large. To get to the administration building from where they were, they had to cross the sports field and several tree-lined paths.
Damn it, the sports field was huge.
Furthermore, there were zombies wandering everywhere. To make matters even more ridiculous, giant man-eating plants had sprouted on the field. Even if a zombie got too close, the plant would swallow it whole and crunch it up.
Ning Shu: …
