Chapter 3088: Is This My Last Meal?

Ning Shu looked at Gong Rong in utter bafflement. She asked, “Why are you rattling off at me? Are you trying to reform my worldview or something?”

Gong Rong spread his hands. “Sorry, I went on a bit. It’s just been a long time since I’ve had a conversation like this with someone.”

Ning Shu gave a cold laugh inwardly. She was just about to stand up when she heard a ding—the sound of the door opening.

The lean man, Li Zhao, entered, pushing a food cart. He rolled it up in front of Ning Shu, lifted the lid, and placed a plate of steak on the table.

After the steak came a serving of dessert, set carefully on the table.

Ning Shu had studied pastry-making before. One look at this dessert, and she could tell it was made by a master chef. The colors were vibrant, and the presentation was exquisite.

“Go ahead, eat,” Gong Rong said. He propped his chin up with one hand and looked at Ning Shu.

Ning Shu sniffed the steak. “Did you poison this, or is this my last meal?”

Gong Rong’s red lips parted slightly. “Of course not. If it were your last meal, I’d at least make sure it was something delicious.”

“Fu’er, go get something to eat too,” Gong Rong said to his younger sister.

Gong Fu removed her headset and came over. “Sister, aren’t you coming with me?”

She gave Ning Shu a quick glance. “Don’t tell me you’re staying here to keep her company?”

“Go on. I actually think talking to her is pretty interesting,” Gong Rong said gently.

Gong Fu gave Ning Shu another look before finally turning and leaving.

Under the table, Ning Shu’s fingers made a subtle gesture toward Gong Fu and released a thread of invisible energy that slipped into her body.

Gong Fu froze mid-step, and her expression suddenly twisted with discomfort. She clutched her chest. It felt like her heart had collided with something.

It convulsed once, but then the feeling vanished.

Gong Rong immediately stood and hurried to Gong Fu’s side. With genuine concern, he asked, “Fu’er, are you okay?”

He clearly sincerely cared for his sister.

Ning Shu continued cutting her steak. It tasted excellent.

Gong Fu shook her head. “I’m fine.”

Gong Rong turned to Li Zhao and said, “Take good care of the miss.”

Li Zhao bowed and escorted Gong Fu out. He followed close behind her as they left.

Gong Rong returned to his seat opposite Ning Shu and looked at her. He said, “I really don’t like the way you look at me, like I’m some kind of murderer.”

Ning Shu shrugged. “I’m not.”

“Different classes have different ways of thinking. Just like now—you’re eating beef. Have you ever considered what the cow might think? The resources humans need to survive… aren’t they all taken from other species?

“The food chain doesn’t just apply across species. It exists among humans, too.” Gong Rong rested his chin on his hand again and continued watching Ning Shu. “Is the steak good?”

Ning Shu: …

She put down her knife and fork. The whole conversation had killed her appetite.

“Why are you yapping so much at me?” Ning Shu said coldly.

“I’m trying to reform your rotten, naive little worldview,” Gong Rong replied.

Ning Shu’s expression turned even colder. “Well, thank you.” I thank your whole family!

“So you reform my worldview, and then what?” she asked.

Gong Rong must be such a pain in the ass because he was bored out of his mind.

“Nothing, really. I just think most people are ignorant—and so easy to manipulate.” Gong Rong rested his chin in his hand again. “So, so naive.”

Ning Shu picked up her fork and began eating dessert. “Right. Everyone else is ignorant, and you’re the only smart one. Ha. Ha. Ha…”

“Young lady, I don’t like your tone,” Gong Rong said while shaking his head.

Ning Shu rolled her eyes. “Shall I kneel down and kowtow to you, then? Three kneels, nine bows?”

“Is the dessert good?” Gong Rong asked.

Ning Shu nodded. “Not bad. Actually, pretty good.”

Ding—the door opened. More than a dozen men walked in, all in bulletproof vests and carrying guns.
