Protect Our Chief

Chapter 1387 - 47: The Wang Family’s First Divine Power Realm (Part 4)

Under normal circumstances, a Noble Family is not allowed to privately establish a regular corps.

But according to Daqian Law, once a National War breaks out, or other severe situations arise that endanger Daqian, Noble Families may organize Civilian Soldiers to defend the nation and the Human Race.

Right now the National War hasn’t actually started, but the banner is already up.

So the Wang Family simply applied for a "Changning Wang’s Civilian Corps" designation and establishment, forming a regular militia unit with a full strength of five thousand two hundred people. A portion of the tax revenue from Longzuo County and the Changning Guard will be allocated as funding, at the level of half the military pay of an Ordinary Corps.

Generally speaking, the annual total of military pay and supplies for an Ordinary Corps comes to three hundred thousand Qian Gold, which means the Changning Wang’s Renowned Corps can enjoy a yearly subsidy of one hundred and fifty thousand Qian Gold in military pay.

As for the rest, the Wang Family will have to figure it out on their own.

With the regular Civilian Corps formation approved, the Wang Family began recruiting across the entire Changning Guard territory, with Wang Anye as the main person in charge.

The primary recruitment targets are the Wang Family’s Family Soldiers and Clan Soldiers, as well as all Indigenous People who have been settled in the Changning Guard for not fewer than three generations. In other words, anyone who wants to join the "Changning Wang’s Renowned Corps" must at least have had their great-grandfather migrate and settle here in Changning Guard.

In the central square of Xinping Town, this is the main Recruitment Point.

As the chief recruitment officer, Wang Anye was wearing a full set of General Armor, sitting upright at the Main General’s seat and overseeing the entire recruitment process.

Meanwhile, Emperor Longchang, with nothing better to do, had a red armband on his arm and had once again disguised himself as an old General, openly sitting right beside Wang Anye supervising things: "An Ye brat, in this life I’ve fought countless campaigns, and when it comes to marching and warfare, no one can compare to me."

"If it weren’t for that bastard Wang Shouzhe refusing to let me go to the front line, why would we need all these tricks? Give me a hundred thousand troops and I could hack my way straight to the Southern Qin Kingdom’s Capital City. So, when it comes to army matters, you’d better learn properly from me."

Wang Anye is Emperor Longchang’s favorite junior in the Wang Family; his attitude toward him and toward Wang Shouzhe are worlds apart.

"Grandmaster Great Emperor." Wang Anye replied via sound transmission, "We’re just forming a Civilian Corps, that’s all. Why do we need Your Majesty to personally come out and take charge?"

"Wang Shouzhe hasn’t been letting me go far from home lately, isn’t it obvious I’m bored out of my mind? It’s rare to have some serious business to meddle in, of course I’m not going to miss it." Emperor Longchang replied with a broad smile. "By the way, this time the quality of your Civilian Corps has to be pushed higher. After all, your Wang Family is loaded, so at the very least you need to benchmark it against those main battle groups like White Tiger and Vermilion Bird. If you end up putting together a logistics corps instead, that’d be truly shameful."

A main battle group’s annual military pay, supplies and expenditures run to around eight hundred thousand Qian Gold.

Emperor Longchang naturally thought he had a brilliant plan: with just one hundred and fifty thousand Qian Gold from the Guard taxes and County taxes, they could raise a main battle group, and the rest would be paid out of the deep pockets of the Wang Family. This was clearly a great deed that benefits both the country and the people.

"Mm." Wang Anye nodded in agreement. "That’s what my great-grandfather thinks as well. Since it’s our Wang Family that’s forming the Civilian Corps, we definitely can’t set the threshold too low."

At this moment, the number of people gathered around the square to register was growing. Patrol teams and the Wang Family’s Clan Soldiers and Household Generals were maintaining order.

Wang Anye stood up and said loudly, "The Hour has come. I hereby announce that the ’Changning Wang’s Civilian Corps’ is officially established and will begin open recruitment following the principles of openness, fairness, and impartiality."

"First condition: your ancestors must have resided in the Changning Guard for more than three generations, and starting from your great-grandfather there must be no criminal record."

"Second condition: an ordinary soldier must have a graduation certificate from a Wang Family–affiliated village school at the primary education level."

The crowd instantly erupted. The first condition was still acceptable—after all, this is the local Civilian Corps of the Changning Guard, so the indigenous residents ought to have priority.

But the second condition was downright perverse. Just how hard is it to get a Wang Family primary education graduation certificate? Even if Emperor Longchang were to do systematic study and sit the exam, he absolutely wouldn’t be able to pass.

"Silence, silence." Wang Anye said sternly. "Our ’Changning Wang’s Renowned Corps’ is an army with ideals, with morals, and with culture. Nowadays the Wang Family’s basic education has long been popularized. If you don’t even have a primary education graduation certificate, how are you supposed to be an outstanding soldier?"

After shocking the crowd into silence.

Wang Anye continued, "In addition, there is the selection mechanism for ordinary soldiers. Under thirty-five years old, with Cultivation in the Qi Refining Realm. And must never have taken Blood Tempering Pill or Bone Marrow Purify Pill before, yet possess Lower Grade B and Grade A bloodlines. Those who pass tests of willpower, character, and other conditions can be given priority admission as ordinary soldiers. The military will then allocate one Blood Tempering Pill and one Bone Marrow Purify Pill each, along with corresponding Cultivation Resources."

"What?" Emperor Longchang’s "dragon body shuddered," as he stared at Wang Anye in shock. "With that set of resources, they’ll probably reach Middle Grade D or Grade C, right? And this is only for ordinary soldiers? Then what’s your Officer Level like?"

People of this caliber, so long as resources are plentiful and allocated reasonably, reaching Late Stage Spirit Platform Realm isn’t difficult. If cost is not a concern, there’s even a decent chance of advancing to the Celestial Human Realm.

"Our plan is this: after their bloodline is boosted, the lowest rank of squad leader must at least be among the Junior Celestial Pride Grades B and A. Company commander level should require a Celestial Pride to serve. The thirteen War Camp Commanders must be Great Celestial Pride. As for the Battle Group Leader, they at least have to be Unparalleled, right?"

Have to be, right.

Emperor Longchang’s brain was buzzing. What do you mean ’at least Unparalleled, right’? Are you freaking kidding me? This is just a local Village Brave Civilian Corps; benchmarking it against Daqian’s main battle groups is already way over the top, and now you want to stomp even Daqian’s Ace Battle Groups under your heel?

"Your Majesty, didn’t you say we should push it as high as possible?" Wang Anye said. "My great-grandfather said that since we’re pushing it high, we might as well benchmark it directly against the Divine Martial Era’s battle group configuration. There’s not much problem on the military side; it’s just that the lower ranks are still a bit lacking. We’ll slowly adjust that later."

Emperor Longchang’s eyes were spinning a little. It was a blessing he’d only given them a local Village Brave Civilian Corps designation. If he had given them the designation of a main battle group, wouldn’t they immediately go benchmark themselves against the Divine Martial Dynasty’s Ace Corps?
