Chapter 1264: Vex’s Advice
Chapter 1264: Vex’s Advice
Now, one might wonder: why was Quinlan doing this? More importantly of all, why was he being so loud about it? He invaded Winterwood with a big bang, not even making an attempt to hide who he was, nor for what reason.
Quinlan had many reasons for doing so.
First, saying that he revealed for what exact reason he had come would be incorrect. The king and his allies were not aware of his status as the Primordial Subjugator, also known as a turbo-buffed Slave Master.
They thought he was an elemental mage warrior hybrid who could also wield a unique form of Necromancy. Quinlan was careful not to reveal his slave skills to the public.
Thus, when Alastair Greenvale or his subordinates receive the report and arrive at the county, they will find that the elite guards made a heroic last stand and barely managed to hold Quinlan back until reinforcements arrived, forcing him to run.
The best thing was that Quinlan’s slaves did not even require a collar around their necks, making it hard to suspect anything else going on.
Why would they? Who could guess that a man with so many unique powers could also hold a unique form of slave master abilities as well?
In a world where people could only hold a single class at a time, making such assumptions was easier said than done. They needed to think outside everything they knew about this world.
And, well… Even if they did do exactly as such, recognizing that [Subjugation] had been cast on these people would require serious investigation. An artifact searching for the [Slave Contract] spell would find nothing, showing them to be free people.
Ironically, perhaps the easiest way to find the truth would be to cast [Slave Contract] on these people, which would then be rejected by its superior version, [Subjugation.]
But while this makes sense, it still does not explain why Quinlan was so loud in the [Subjugation] of these people.
He had thought this through and came to the conclusion that such an approach was for the best.
First, he did not want to underestimate the duke and his vassals. Quinlan did not think he could invade so many estates without being caught. Even with Blossom there to sniff out the artifacts, sooner or later, one would catch them.
And being detected by artifacts was only one such way they could get caught. There was more to consider.
Thus, instead of hoping they can sneak their way through all their targets and their heavily fortified estates, Quinlan decided to control the narrative.
’Yes, Devil is back and he is going on the offensive. None of his enemies are safe, no one is outside his reach’ is what his actions were meant to convey.
This allowed him to achieve two important things.
First, it told Alastair that his decision to form such a giant army by calling on his vassals was not exactly a flawless plan. With a man like Quinlan on the Consortium’s side, Alastiar could not merely focus on the front lines and have the luxury to assume that his lands would be safe and sound.
Quinlan was still part of the Vesper Consortium and considered them his allies in this conflict. Thus, helping them by sowing doubt and discord in the Greenvale members was for the best.
Even before the sun rises, Eric Winterwood and his vassals would begin writing letters to the duke and their fellow nobles, saying they need to rethink how many men they send to the front.
And they would not be the only ones. Many more would come.
But perhaps even more importantly, this approach allowed Quinlan to kill high-level people and add them to his soul army. They, the guards protecting counts and perhaps even barons, were considered important enough to be Elite Souls upon their slaying and consequent [Eternal Damnation] instead of Lesser Souls.
Just by this little invasion, Quinlan had doubled his number of Elite Souls, despite it being so much simpler than facing the giant army of the Fujimori.
Furthermore, people like Garrett would cost an immense amount of points to Subjugate; it was better to just kill him and claim his soul. As an added benefit, he gained a great deal of XP as well for killing these high-profile, strong people, bringing him closer to the next trial at level 50.
If Quinlan was trying to sneak, he would’ve struggled to kill so many elite guards without being found out.
For all these reasons, he thought it was best to just go in guns blazing.
But that did not mean they would keep doing it just like this all the time, especially when the elite guards at the location were not so elite, making it more worthwhile to just sneak.
Such as…
Quinlan stepped through the portal and found himself in the bedroom of Baron Trinet. “Master!!” Blossom’s happy voice sounded as she dashed to hug her master.
“Blossom was not caught!” she declared proudly while rubbing her face into his chest.
“Good job,” Quinlan chuckled, hugging the girl tight while observing the baron and his wife gawk at him with eyes of utmost fright. They were extremely confused, but more so than that, they simply feared for their lives.
Their mouths were covered, forcefully shut, while their limbs were tied together.
Quinlan’s job was simple from here on out, having been presented with his meal on a silver platter.
“Now, next on your list is…” Quinlan pondered as he summoned the ’to-do’ list they’d written. “Ah, yes. [Warp Gate].”
“See you soon, Master!!” Blossom chirped before dashing through the gate with a rapidly wagging tail, visibly having a great time.
The dimensional doorway closed, and Quinlan cast a new one, letting him reach his next destination.
There, he saw Kitsara smirk at him proudly, though Quinlan had to observe the woman for a bit because she was not exactly Kitsara… Looking at him smugly was a middle-aged butler. But no butler would make such an unprofessional expression, especially not at an invader.
Behind her lay a count and countess on their bed, restrained. These people were dumb enough to send all their elites to the Greenvale war machine, making them not worth the effort for Quinlan to go loud.
“[Subjugate].”
“[Subjugate].”
Before Kitsara could begin making jokes as she liked when she wore such illusions, such as asking if he won’t kiss his loving woman, Quinlan summoned the wind and threw her into the portal that led to her next destination.
“Ah! Hey! What about my kiss?” she cried as she realized she was forcefully sent away.
As her fox butt disappeared, Quinlan’s mind was invaded. <Hmph!! So this is what it feels like to be part of a loveless relationship… Hmph!!!!>
Quinlan ignored the adorably pouting woman of his, knowing full well she was just having fun in her own way.
His next destination awaited him, where he was greeted by the sight of his girls currently engaged with hundreds of soldiers.
<We raised hell as much as we could,> Lucille chirped while cleaving two men in half in a single slash of her axe.
<They should be here any moment…> Serika mused.
And indeed, just like it happened with Garrett, a force of elites arrived to confront the invaders.
Quinlan smirked.
“Synchra,” he called, and his elegant suit bled crimson flames before transforming into his obsidian armor.
“Soul Reaper,” he called, and his pitch-black saber exploded forth from his ring and landed in his open palm with flair.
And just like this, the night that would later be labeled ’The Anomaly’s Grand Heist’ commenced.
At the same time, Alastair Greenvale and King Alexios had their communication artifacts practically explode from the number of calls they were receiving.

Author: I wrote these Chapters on a plane where I was crammed into a small space, feeling beyond exhausted and had a crappy stomach to boot. I’m pretty sure today’s Chapters were not up to par, I apologize. This was as good as I could do.
I might take off tomorrow because this 24+ hour trip took a lot out of me.
