Chapter 1192: Flowers
Chapter 1192: Flowers
Feng and Felicity stopped mid-bicker the moment Quinlan mentioned flowers.
“Magical flowers?” Felicity echoed, blinking in confusion before turning to Feng. “Do you know what he means?”
Feng frowned with arms crossed. “… Not a clue.”
That earned a shared look between Quinlan and Rosie. One that was a quiet, smug sort of glance that carried far too much unspoken amusement.
The exact kind of look that made both teens narrow their eyes at once at the irritating father-daughter pair.
Felicity scowled suspiciously. “Why do I feel like they’re plotting something?”
Feng squinted her eyes. “Because they are.”
Rosie puffed up her chest proudly, lifting a tiny finger and aiming it right at herself.
She was looking like she was about to lecture a class. “Rosie’s Mommies are beyond amazing!” she began. Her voice was bright, brimming with love and adoration for her mothers. “But Rosie wonders… are they special in the sense of being different from others of their race? Like Daddy is?”
Feng tilted her head, caught off guard by the sudden question. “Special? Not exactly,” she said after a moment’s thought. “They weren’t born different. Just… normal humans, elves, or beastkin. None of them stand out like Quinlan does, unless we count minor quirks such as Blossom’s absurd sense of smell.”
Rosie nodded solemnly. Then her eyes twinkled. “Yet their classes…” She looked at Feng, waiting. “Have you heard of them?”
That made Feng hesitate. She understood what Rosie was implying a moment later, and it made her jolt. “Wait! They all have unique classes… Dawnbringer, Skysplitter, Essenceweaver, Bloodmonger…”
“Uh-huh!” Rosie chirped, puffing out her chest even further as she struck a triumphant pose. “And do you know who made that happen? Rosie!”
Her smugness was blinding. Feng could practically feel her blood pressure rise just from looking at that tiny grin.
Before she could say anything, Quinlan’s voice filled the room. It was calm and smooth. “To be precise, Rosie is what we call a Geim. Or rather…” his eyes flicked up toward her, “… an upgraded, unique version of one.”
The air shifted instantly.
Felicity’s eyes went wide. “W-w-wait! It’s not that… right?!” Her voice broke as she pointed a trembling finger at him. “You don’t mean our Geim… the one that…!! Do you have something to do with it dying?!”
Quinlan was surprised she even knew of its existence. Then, to her visible horror, he nodded.
“Yes. I spoke with it before its passing. We understood each other thanks to my nature as a primordial. It entrusted its Geim Seed to me, saying it despised humans and wanted to entrust the continuation of its line to someone who promised to raise hell to the king.”
Suddenly, he smirked as he looked at Felicity. “I gotta say, I made good on my promise…”
Felicity yelped as she understood exactly what he meant. He enslaved the royal princess!
At her request!!!
Quinlan then leaned back, and his voice returned to even. “I planted those seeds here, where I planned to make my home. From them, Rosie was born… after some minor interventions on my part.”
Rosie wiggled proudly on his head, like a plant basking in sunlight.
“Oh,” Quinlan added almost as an afterthought, “and yes, I also took that Legendary-rarity artifact that veiled your outpost. It now veils our home.”
Felicity froze. Then blinked. Then blinked again.
“…You!! You stole the veil artifact of the Royal Outpost?! You grew a new Geim?! You?! I?!”
Words abandoned her. She let out a small squeak and slumped back against the bed. Her brain visibly crashed.
It needed rebooting.
Once again.
Feng didn’t even tease her this time. Instead, she stood up slowly and walked toward Quinlan. Her expression, for once, was entirely stripped of humor.
She stopped in front of him. Even sitting, he met her gaze at perfect eye level due to the immense height gap between the two.
“You plan to use one of those flowers… to upgrade my class, too, don’t you?”
Quinlan’s answer came without pause. “Yes. That is exactly my intention.”
Feng didn’t move. Her pulse quickened, though she didn’t know why.
“When we first came here from Zhenwu, the system automatically assigned you a class. The Gremlord of Chaos.”
He said the name of her class with visible distaste on his expression, as if its mere existence disgusted him.
“A luck-based class, an unpredictable, RNG mess. At the time, I thought it was perfect for a cheeky girl like you. Abrupt, unfiltered, always throwing the world off balance.”
His hand rose until his fingers brushed against her cheek. The gesture was soft, tender, and full of love.
Then, his expression shifted.
The warmth in his eyes disappeared.
“But the more I thought about it, the more I hated that class.”
Feng blinked, startled by the sudden bite in his tone. “H-hated? But… I thought it was a good class! Even you said so!”
“I did,” Quinlan admitted with a nod. “And I still think that. It is a strong class with immense potential as you grow. But I hate it.”
His voice grew heavier, rougher. “My Feng Jiai is far too precious an existence to be mocked like this. The Gremlord of Chaos? Depending on luck? Please! That sounds cheap to me, as if you needed luck to be of use. Serika received a badass class, the Solar Fist. It fits her like a glove. Fiery, epic, deadly. So why were you given this piece of garbage? You deserve better than randomness deciding your worth!”
His words carried immense anger. He spoke quietly but with unmistakable fury radiating off him. It wasn’t the anger of arrogance or pride; it was protective, raw, and personal.
Feng’s lips parted slightly. She didn’t know what to say. She rarely saw him this riled up. He was genuinely offended on her behalf.
Furthermore, to make the situation even more overwhelming, her heart was violently pounding in her chest as the words ’My Feng Jiai is far too precious’ echoed in her head again and again.
She was confused. The oriental teen tried to scoff, to hide the pink spreading across her cheeks, but her voice came out a little too soft. She reached up to tenderly hold onto the big, manly palm, stroking her cheek.
“You’re unfair…”
