Huang Lingzhu gazed at Chaos; her mind weighed numerous factors in a split second, yet no one but she herself knew what she was thinking.

Chaos looked at her with an unusual smile. "You don’t need to think about all that, Time. I’ve thought of many ways to free myself from them, but I’ve only found one."

"What is that one way?"

"The only way for us to escape all those chains is by death and resurrection."

Huang Lingzhu raised an eyebrow. "Death and resurrection?"

"Yes," Chaos nodded. "The first living being to break free from the restraints of those chains was Jian Xieshen."

"What... But how..." Huang Lingzhu immediately realized something. "Was Jian Xieshen able to do that after Yuan Shijia collected his souls and resurrected him?"

"You’re right." Chaos paused. "However, Jian Xieshen was not completely free from the restraints of those chains because he had been dead for too long before Yuan Shijia resurrected him. Even though those chains no longer restrained him, something else always loomed over him."

"Something else?"

Chaos shook his head. "I can’t tell you anything because I don’t have any information about it."

"Hmm?" Huang Lingzhu fell into thought and drew some conclusions, but she wasn’t sure all of her conclusions were usable. "If what you say is true, that means we need as little delay as possible between death and resurrection so that something else doesn’t loom over us."

"You might be right about that, but we can’t prove the truth." Chaos paused and looked at her deeply. "Even if you control the timing, we don’t know the exact time gap we need to do that, and we don’t know about the risks. Perhaps there is some other thing that drives the success of the process, but I haven’t found it yet."

Huang Lingzhu looked at him. "What if I try it on the beasts?"

"You can try it." Chaos waved his hand, and a medium-sized beast appeared before them. "I’ll kill it, and you can try to resurrect it by rewinding time."

"Okay." After Chaos killed the beast, Huang Lingzhu used the same time reversal that she used to resurrect Feng Bing’er in the past. "Done."

Chaos stared at the beast for some time before waving his hand, but those chains still appeared on its body. "Looks like we failed."

"Yeah." Even so, Huang Lingzhu was not disappointed with the result, and she repeated it several times. However, the result was still the same; those chains still appeared and bound the beast. "Where exactly is the error? Why do these chains keep appearing?"

Chaos couldn’t help but shake his head; he didn’t know the answer either. "I will bring Feng Bing’er to this place."

"Then—" Huang Lingzhu didn’t continue her words because Feng Bing’er had already appeared in front of them in the blink of an eye.

Feng Bing’er stared at them with repeated blinks. She remembered cultivating in her room at the Yunlong Zhuzhai, but she had suddenly been transported to a strange place.

Sheng Ming spoke to her directly. "Bing’er, the man in front of you is Chaos, and he brought you here."

"Huh?" Feng Bing’er stiffened as she stared at Chaos fearfully. "What... what do you need from me? Why... why did you bring me here?"

Chaos smiled at her. "You don’t need to be this afraid of me, little phoenix. I didn’t bring you here to hurt you, and I just wanted to check something on you."

"Something on me?" Feng Bing’er was puzzled.

"This."

Snap

Instantly, many black chains appeared around Feng Bing’er after Chaos snapped his fingers, and they bound her body, which made her panic. "Where... where did all these chains come from?"

"Those chains were born with you." Chaos snapped his fingers again, and more chains appeared on him, Huang Lingzhu, and everyone else present. "You are not the only one restrained by these chains, but all living beings are the same as you, including me."

Feng Bing’er looked at the chains binding their bodies before letting out a sigh of relief. "So, what you’re saying is these chains have been with me since I was born, and they’re binding me to something?"

"Yes," Chaos nodded. "These chains have bound us since we were born, and they bind us to this universe."

"Then—"

"I don’t have an answer for you," Chaos interrupted Feng Bing’er. "I am indeed the core of this universe, but these chains are beyond my control, and they have bound me like this since the beginning of my existence."

Feng Bing’er’s jaws dropped after hearing that, and she looked at Ling Yun, who was focused on reforming his soul sea. "Is that why you want to fight against my husband?"

"That is one of my reasons." Chaos looked at Ling Yun. "Compared to me, your husband has a greater chance of becoming the complete core of this universe, and I believe he can make this universe better than it is now."

Feng Bing’er returned her gaze to Chaos. "What do you mean by that? How can my husband become the complete core of this universe?"

"I am the core of this universe, and all its inhabitants are my creation, including you." Chaos paused, thinking of the right words. "Unfortunately, I am not perfect, and my imperfections cause many problems for all the inhabitants of this universe, and the darkness is one of the results."

Huang Lingzhu, Feng Bing’er, Sheng Ming, and Dongfang Qinzhi stared at Chaos in confusion. All this time, they had thought he was the one who created the darkness, but his words just now implied something else.

"You guys must be confused, right?" They nodded to Chaos. "You are right that I created the darkness, but I created it against my will, and these chains influenced me to create it."

Huang Lingzhu, Feng Bing’er, Sheng Ming, and Dongfang Qinzhi gasped in shock. They looked at the black chains covering their bodies and tried to touch them, but they didn’t feel anything strange from them.

Chaos continued. "The only way for me to break free from these chains is to fight Ling Yun, and I will be free when he defeats me."

"What will happen to you if Ling Yun manages to defeat you?" Dongfang Qinzhi asked.

"I don’t have the answer yet." Chaos himself didn’t have an answer for that. "Perhaps I will disappear from this universe, and Ling Yun will take over my position as the core. As I said before, I am the imperfect core of this universe, and someone must replace me for this universe to achieve stability. Coincidentally, he was the one chosen to replace me because he wasn’t born from my creation, but he was born from something else."

"What do you mean by that?" Huang Lingzhu asked.

Chaos looked at her. "Don’t you already know the origin of the creation of this universe?"

"I do." Huang Lingzhu nodded. "Our universe is a branch of Tang Xiao’s universe, and it was born because his future self went back to the past to change history. Unfortunately, his calculations were completely wrong, and his decision to go back to the past caused the birth of several other universes."

Sheng Ming and Dongfang Qinzhi were shocked to hear that, but Feng Bing’er was not shocked. She had met Tang Xiao when Ling Yun discovered the Celestial Fortress, and he explained many things to them at that time, especially about other universes.

"The main universe is Tang Xiao’s home, and there are four other universes, with our universe being the youngest among them." Sheng Ming and Dongfang Qinzhi looked at Feng Bing’er. "You two may not know the truth, but Tang Xiao created the Celestial Fortress and Xiao Yin, and he left them in our universe for the sake of the Tang Clan members."

"The Tang Clan members?"

Feng Bing’er nodded and explained. "Tang Xiao himself was the leader of the Tang Clan in his universe, and he felt responsible for the birth of the other universes. That’s why he used his Primordial Divine Ark to go to other universes, and he left something for the Tang Clan, who live in other universes, including ours."

"How did you know all that, Bing’er?" Sheng Ming asked.

"When our husband discovered the Celestial Fortress on Earth, we met with Tang Xiao’s memories that he deliberately left in the fortress, and he told us some things about the other universes." Feng Bing’er waved her hand and created a qi screen that displayed the incident from years ago. "Before that day, only Chaos, Huang Lingzhu, Long Hun, Tang Chen, and the people of the Tang Clan knew about his existence."

Sheng Ming and Dongfang Qinzhi were shocked after watching Feng Bing’er’s memories; they didn’t expect something complicated to be hidden within their universe.

Chaos spoke to them again. "As I said before, Ling Yun was indeed born in this universe, but he wasn’t created by me. Instead, he was born from Tang Xiao’s will, which was accidentally left behind in this universe."

"What?" The women all screamed in shock. "How is that possible?"

"Ling Yun’s birth is really complicated to explain, but I have told you the truth." Chaos sighed. "Before Yi Mingxia became pregnant, Tang Xiao’s will resided in her womb, and it was fused with her fetus when Ling Xiao impregnated her. He was born in this universe, but he became a different individual from all the living beings I created due to the influence of Tang Xiao’s will. He is the only person who can replace my position as the core of this universe."

Huang Lingzhu, Feng Bing’er, Sheng Ming, and Dongfang Qinzhi felt dizzy listening to Chaos’s explanation of Ling Yun’s birth.

Huang Lingzhu took a deep breath. "Do you think Tang Xiao knew about Ling Yun’s birth from the start? As I recall, he told me that one of his wives possessed the same abilities as the seer, and he sent one of his descendants into this universe to monitor the situation."
