Chapter 552: Chapter 550: Your Mother Is Definitely Impressive
Inside the bandit lair.
Corpses were strewn across the floor. As it turned out, they were just here to clean up and move the corpses.
General Cheney began ordering his men to work.
"Alright, men, drag these bodies away. Find a spot to burn them so we don’t start a plague. If you find any who aren’t dead, make sure to finish them off."
As he spoke, he pointed to a few men. "You lot, search the surrounding area. Don’t let a single one get away. The rest of you, follow me. We’re clearing this place out."
"Yes, General."
The soldiers who had followed Celeste Grant worked quickly and efficiently, each with a clear task.
General Cheney, who had escorted them, led his men to raid the bandit’s main hideout, confiscating all the grain and money. They were so thorough they even dug the copper coins out of mouse holes, truly leaving nothing behind.
To be honest, they had come ready for a major battle to wipe out the bandits. But before they could even make a move, the Princess Consort had already taken care of everything.
"Quickly, move all of this outside."
Soon, the corpses littering the bandit lair were cleared away. In their place were piles of grain and chest after chest of money and fabrics.
Seeing the loot in the courtyard, Celeste Grant clucked her tongue in amazement. She rose from her chair and walked over to the chests filled with money.
As far as the eye could see, there were bags of grain piled high. In front of her were several chests containing paintings, calligraphy scrolls, and various valuable ornaments. And then there was the gold, silver, and jewelry.
There was little gold, but the amount of silver in the chests was substantial. Though the bandit lair wasn’t large, its hoard was impressive.
They had clearly plundered from many wealthy families and villages. No wonder the stench of blood was so thick when she arrived. Behind all this loot were countless shattered, innocent families.
Her gaze swept over the grain and money.
’They were certainly well-stocked. If all this money were exchanged for basic grain to stave off hunger, it would be enough to feed tens of thousands for half a month. No wonder Emperors love seizing estates; it’s a surefire way to get rich quick. It’s just like in the Cultivation World. The old saying about murder and theft being the quickest path to wealth really is true.’
The leader of the group, General Cheney, clasped his fists in a salute to Celeste Grant and asked, "Princess Consort, what are your orders for all this?"
Celeste Grant glanced at the grain and said, "Distribute the grain to the villagers who have suffered; it’s the foundation of their livelihood. As for the money, use a portion to help the people resettle and rebuild their homes. The rest... divide it among yourselves. Whether you use it to buy wine or take it home to your wives and children, it’s yours to decide."
Hearing this, the soldiers were deeply moved and cheered in unison.
"Thank you, Princess Consort!"
"Thank you for the reward, Princess Consort!"
Every single one of them was thrilled, their respect for Celeste Grant growing even deeper. It was only natural, of course. Who wouldn’t be excited about getting paid?
Her gaze swept over the women huddled in the corner. Celeste Grant raised a hand and beckoned.
"Come here."
There were over a dozen women who had been abducted and brought to the bandit lair. Hearing Celeste Grant’s call, they walked over to her immediately, though they didn’t understand why.
They had thought they would never see their families again. But then this noble lady had descended like a savior from the heavens. They had only ever read about heroes saving damsels in distress in storybooks; they never imagined that they themselves would one day be saved by a beautiful woman.
The women who had ended up in the bandit lair were endlessly grateful for Celeste Grant’s appearance.
It wasn’t until the armored soldiers arrived and addressed her as "Princess Consort" that they realized their savior was a royal highness. The revelation left them utterly shocked.
The two young girls who had massaged Celeste Grant’s legs felt especially blessed, as if they had been touched by her good fortune. They were sure their lives would be smooth sailing from now on—they didn’t even want to wash their hands.
As it turned out, her intuition was correct.
Celeste Grant was no ordinary mortal. She was blessed with great karmic luck and merit. As such, any mortal who came into contact with her would inevitably absorb a bit of her good fortune.
She pointed to the chests on the ground and said, "Come here. Each of you, take a silver ingot."
They shook their heads repeatedly.
"No, no... we can’t."
"Take it. Someone will escort you home shortly. And even for those who have no home to return to, this money will help you survive and start anew."
The women’s eyes reddened with tears, and they immediately began to kowtow to her.
"Thank you, my lady!"
"Thank you, my lady!"
"Thank you, Princess Consort! You’re a living saint!"
"Thank you, Princess Consort..."
After taking the silver, they were overcome with gratitude. The Princess Consort was so magnanimous and kind. For Kelldorn to have such a princess was a blessing for all its people.
「Next.」
General Cheney and his men quickly moved the confiscated money and grain down the mountain.
After everyone else had left, Celeste Grant, who was bringing up the rear, stomped her foot on the ground. In the next instant, the ground split open, and the entire bandit lair collapsed into a pile of rubble.
General Cheney, who had come back for a moment, stared wide-eyed at the ruins. "This... How did it just collapse like that?"
Celeste Grant said nonchalantly, "I don’t know. Old and in disrepair, I suppose."
Hearing this, General Cheney glanced at the collapsed ruins. "Good thing we got out when we did. Otherwise, we might have been buried in there."
Celeste Grant walked past him, and he hurried to follow.
When Celeste Grant returned to where the carriages were resting, she immediately saw Javier Sinclair and their son sitting by a campfire, roasting a rabbit.
This was their temporary camp.
The fragrant aroma was already wafting through the air.
She saw them from a distance and waved. "Old Fiend Sinclair, I’m back! Hahaha, that was a blast."
Javier Sinclair turned the rabbit meat over the fire.
He looked up in her direction and said, "You’re back, my dear? Perfect timing. I’m roasting some rabbit for you; it’ll be ready in a moment."
Celeste Grant hurried to his side and sat down. "Wow, that smells amazing! Roasted rabbit! Darling, you always know what I want."
Javier Sinclair said, "It’s not quite ready yet."
Aaron Sinclair, sitting on the other side, was also turning a rabbit over the fire. When he saw Celeste Grant, he stood up and went to her side. "Mother, how did the raid go?"
When Celeste Grant had left the camp with her large saber, he had wanted to follow. But his father had stopped him and led him in another direction. "Come on. Let’s go catch a rabbit to roast for your mother."
At first, he had been very worried.
"Father, aren’t you worried about Mother? She’s gone off to the bandit lair, and you’re in the mood to go hunting?"
When he’d said that, his father had simply glanced in the direction she’d gone. "Son, your mother isn’t even afraid of me. Why would you waste your time worrying about a few measly bandits?"
Aaron Sinclair scratched his head.
"Daddy, is Mommy really that strong?"
"Yes. Your mother is definitely strong."
’Thinking about his parents’ relationship...’
