Chapter 141: No more bodies

Noah’s POV

I don’t cry as Elias’s scent wraps me like a blanket.

I just melt into his hold and stay in his arms like I’ve been dying to return here from the moment he left me at the staircase.

My breath stutters as the alpha presses a kiss on my forehead. I’m not going to cry, really, I’ve done enough of that in the past few days and it changed nothing.

"My gun is loaded. I haven’t used it all day. One shot and she goes" he says into my hair and I ball my fist, hitting his chest to hold back my laughter.

"Don’t say things like that" I say, pressing my nose into his neck to find his scent gland.

Our night can’t be ruined like that. I’ve seen enough dead bodies tonight to last me a lifetime, and I’m sure killing a Governor’s wife might put him in trouble.

Also, aside from my father’s wife, we have a problem we need to address right now.

"I hate how you treated me at the staircase" I say and he breaks the hug to look at my face.

"I’m not sorry, Noah. I don’t trust you to protect yourself, so I’ll do it like a monster if I have to" he says flatly and shake my head.

Unromantic, possessive and overprotective...it’s not as good as it sounds.

"Remember when I told you I like being treated like a human?" I ask and he winces like he doesn’t like the topic. Of course he doesn’t, he’s Mr. Give-it-to-me after all.

"What about it?" he asks and I scowl at him.

"I still mean my words, Elias. I’m not a freaking jack-in-a-box" I say and he shuts me up with a soft kiss.

His soft lips mold mine and I go lax against his body. Elias tips my head back with a hand to my nape and I moan against his mouth. He takes his time, pressing a kiss to my chin, to my cheek and to my neck.

When he breaks the kiss, I’m reduced to a panting mess and I’m about to forget what we were talking about.

"I wouldn’t kiss a jack-in-the-box like this and love it" he murmurs against my skin and I shiver.

"It would be weird if you did" I say and push him away from me. He’s distracting me with kisses!

It has been an eventful evening, and I just want it to end.

I’ve gone from having filthy sex in the temple to being a mated omega, and from that, I came to this house just to fight with my father’s wife. Everything is overwhelming and I need a bath.

"We both smell like..." I trail off and wrinkle my nose.

"Cum and slick?"

"Have a bath with me?" I ask and he tilts his head. From the action, I instantly realized that I just made the biggest mistake of the night.

"You haven’t seen me naked enough for one night, Angel?" he asks and I sigh.

"Never mind" I say and turn around to leave him. I go into the bathroom all alone and unbutton my shirt.

Goddess, Elias is the worst at reading emotions. I just want to be held by him and he’s busy making jokes. When I needed him to make jokes and look at me, he was busy playing blind.

"I can kill her right now" he says as he joins me in the bathroom and I look at him with a frown.

"Stop talking about killing people. I’d rather you let the law deal with her" I say and he stares at me blankly.

"Do you know the law hires my family to execute illegal judgements?" he asks and I shake my head.

"What does that even mean?"

"You’ll find out when your father falls" he says and I take my shirt off slowly. Elias quietly runs the bath and when he’s done, I slide into the warm water.

The alpha strips and joins me in the tub too. It’s a bit uncomfortable but we find a way to fit against each other. I stay on top of him, and just like he did earlier, his hands play with my stomach.

"When we leave tomorrow...what about Conan, am I going to lose him again?" I ask and Elias stays silent.

"Hmmm?" I ask when the silence stretches for too long and he sighs, "I’ll bring him to you in Gottingen"

"Really?" I ask. I sit up with the intention of turning around, but Elias stops me by putting his arm around my midriff.

"You mean it?" I whisper the question. My eyes are lit up, and my heart is fired up at the thought of being with the man who is my mom.

"I only have to ensure he wouldn’t endanger my city and its people" he says and I nod eagerly. Conan is coming home to me. Conan is going to be with me. I’m so happy.

"How long will it take for that to happen?" I whisper.

"I’ll let you know when it’s time. For now, go to sleep Noah. You’ve been through enough" Elias says and runs the tip of his nose over my bite mark.

I told myself that I’d run from him whenever he’s with me in a bathtub, but I guess I’ll save that panic for another day.

I got everything I wanted tonight, and I also stood against Elias to have my way. I deserve to sleep for a long time.

Like I’ve been doing around this dangerous man, I fall asleep against his chest in the bathtub. When I open my eyes, it’s noon, I’m in the back seat of the car and we’re on the road.

"Huh..." I say as I open my eyes.

My head is on Elias’s lap. Lucas is in the passenger seat singing along to a soft jazz song, and Elias is threading his fingers through my hair.

"Damn...my back hurts" I mutter and sit up. My lower back aches from the posture I was asleep in. With a groan, I rub at it and look outside the window.

"Oh! That’s Jennie’s store" I point as we drive past the mall.

"Ask the driver to hold on, I need to visit the store" I say to Elias and he pulls a book out of nowhere.

"No, you don’t" he says.

"Yes, I do, you ruined my pink hoodie" I insist with a glare and he matches my glare. "You’ll wear mine" he mutters.

"It was a gift from Siren; the hoodie is important..."

"You’ll wear mine" he repeats.

This...asshole.

"Fine. Wait till I tell Siren about it" I grumble and fold my arms. The words aren’t meant to be a threat, but Elias seems to interpret them in that way.

"Turn the fucking car around" he mutters.

"There’s no way you got his proud ass to do that" Lucas bursts into laughter in the front seat and I turn my head to the window, keeping my winning smirk to myself.

The perks of being a mate are quite...enjoyable.
