Chapter 9: Karma Works Fast, but the Centipede Works Faster!

Summer unconsciously raised her hands and started clapping for him. After all, it wasn’t every day that people got the chance to watch an elite Sentinel use his ability right in front of them.

There was a reason Sentinels didn’t use their abilities or transform into their beast forms whenever they wanted. The more they relied on their powers, the more guiding they would need afterward.

But Archer didn’t have to worry about that right now because Summer had just guided him, bringing his pollution level down to a much safer level. Because of that, he didn’t even hesitate to use his ability instead of relying on his weapons.

Not long after, another wave of gifts flooded her livestream. Apparently, Summer wasn’t the only one impressed by what Archer had just done. Her viewers were just as amazed, and they were more than willing to show it with their wallets.

Summer wanted to keep watching the gifts pour into her livestream, especially when the numbers kept going up. Unfortunately, she barely had time to enjoy it before more mutated creatures began crawling out from every direction.

"Ryry, help me!" Winter suddenly screamed as a massive centipede rushed toward her, its countless legs moving so fast that it almost seemed to glide across the ground.

Summer frowned as she finally realized that this Polluted Zone really did seem to be classified as A-Rank rather than B-Rank.

Meanwhile, Winter immediately turned around and tried to run, but the giant centipede was simply too fast. Its huge body rushed across the ground, and its countless legs struck the earth so hard that the ground beneath Winter’s feet began to shake.

In the end, Winter lost her balance and fell.

"Ryland!" she screamed, quickly looking toward him. "Ryland, help me!!"

Her voice was so loud that it sounded like she had screamed with every bit of air left in her lungs.

Winter stared at Ryland in horror as he chose to keep running instead of helping her. Forget about helping her; he did not even bother to look back.

"RYLAND, YOU BASTARD!" Winter couldn’t help but curse at him. "I hope you die so painfully that you can’t even remember who your mother is!"

[Damn, Winter, that’s too specific!]

Summer let out a heavy sigh. Before she even realized what she was doing, she had already raised her poison gun and aimed it at the giant centipede.

Not long after, she pulled the trigger and the poison bullet struck the centipede directly in the side, but the creature barely reacted at first.

It continued rushing toward Winter, who was still desperately trying to get back on her feet. However, a minute later, the poison began to take effect.

The centipede suddenly slowed down. Its countless legs started moving out of rhythm, causing its massive body to sway from side to side. A few seconds later, it collapsed heavily onto the ground only a short distance away from Winter.

Summer stared at the dead creature for a moment before lowering her gun. ’Why did I save her?’

She honestly did not know.

Maybe watching Winter get abandoned by Ryland was funny, but watching her get eaten alive by a giant centipede was an entirely different matter.

Summer’s face darkened slightly when she read the last comment because she did not like that idea at all.

Still, when she thought about it, maybe she had not raised the gun because she consciously wanted to save Winter. Maybe her body had simply moved on its own.

After all, this body had once belonged to someone else. Even though the soul inside it had changed, perhaps the body still carried a small part of its former owner. Some feelings, habits, or instincts might still remain deep inside it.

Did that even make sense? Summer had no idea. But considering everything else that had happened to her, she supposed it was not the strangest possibility.

"Summer! Summer!"

As soon as the giant centipede stopped moving, Winter quickly crawled toward her. Her face was pale, and there was still fear in her eyes.

"I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to—"

"Sorry won’t fix our relationship, sister," Summer cut her off coldly.

Her body might still care about Winter, but Summer herself certainly did not.

She looked down at Winter for a moment before pointing toward the gun she had dropped earlier. "This will be the last time I save you, so get up and pick up your gun."

Winter stared at Summer for a few seconds, clearly not expecting such a cold response after Summer had just saved her life.

"But, Summer, I—"

"Your gun," Summer repeated, pointing toward the weapon lying several meters away. "Unless you want the next mutated creature to find you sitting on the ground like this."
