Chapter 344: Chapter 342: Violet City Gym Battle for the Zephyr Badge
After a peaceful rest at the Violet City Pokémon Center, Ash and his harem gathered in the lounge to make a video call back to Pallet Town. Delia’s warm face appeared on the screen, with Amber bouncing excitedly beside her and Cynthia resting comfortably in the background, her hand resting on her growing belly.
"We made it to Violet City safely," Ash reported with a smile. "soon we’ll challenge the Gym."
Delia beamed. "Be careful, dear. And give our love to everyone."
Amber waved both hands. "Win lots of badges, big brother!"
Cynthia offered a soft, proud smile. "Show them the strength of our family."
After the call ended, the group left the Pokémon Center and walked through the quiet evening streets toward the Violet Gym.
The building rose above the city like a tall, elegant tower, its glass and steel structure gleaming under the fading sunlight. As they approached the entrance, a figure suddenly appeared high above, gliding smoothly through the air on a hang glider.
The person descended in a controlled spiral and landed lightly in front of the tower. He removed his helmet, revealing short blue hair and a confident expression. He began speaking passionately about the nature of Flying-type Pokémon their freedom, their speed, and the bond required to soar with them through the skies.
Melody tilted her head curiously. "Excuse me... who are you?"
The young man smiled and placed a hand over his chest. "I am Falkner, the Gym Leader of Violet City. Welcome."
Ash and the girls exchanged glances. They had arrived at the right place.
Falkner led them inside the Gym. After a short elevator ride that carried them high into the tower, the doors opened onto a wide rooftop battlefield. The wind blew steadily across the elevated arena, carrying the distant sounds of the city below.
The sky stretched endlessly above them, the perfect stage for a Flying-type Gym.
Falkner turned to face the group. "So, Ash Ketchum... are you the only one here to challenge me today? Or is there someone else among your companions who also seeks the Zephyr Badge?"
Ash stepped forward with a calm smile. "Both of us. Giselle and I will challenge you."
He turned to Giselle and gently pulled her closer. Cupping her cheek, he leaned in and gave her a tender, lingering kiss. When they parted, he rested his forehead against hers for a moment.
"Go show him what you’ve got," he whispered.
Giselle’s cheeks flushed, but her eyes burned with determination. "I won’t let you down, Master."
The rest of the harem cheered for her.
Misty pumped a fist. "You’ve got this, Giselle!"
Sabrina offered a quiet, confident nod. "Stay focused."
Daisy clapped. "We’re right here with you!"
Erika smiled gracefully." Give your best sister."
Melody with a enthusiastic glee." Show the might of Ketchum family sister!".
Giselle and Falkner took their positions on opposite sides of the rooftop field. The referee stepped forward and raised a flag.
"This will be a three-on-three battle! The Gym Leader may switch Pokémon at any time. The challenger may not. Begin!"
Falkner threw his first Poké Ball. "Hoothoot, let’s go!"
The owl Pokémon appeared with a sharp cry, its large red eyes glowing as it hovered in the air.
Giselle’s expression hardened. She tossed her own Poké Ball with precision. "Golem, take the field!"
The massive Rock/Ground-type landed with a heavy thud that shook the rooftop. Its rocky body gleamed under the open sky.
"Hoothoot, start with Hypnosis!" Falkner commanded.
Hoothoot’s eyes flashed with eerie light as waves of sleep-inducing energy washed toward Golem.
"Golem, dig!" Giselle ordered without hesitation.
Golem sank into the rooftop with surprising speed, vanishing underground just before the Hypnosis could take effect. A moment later the ground trembled, and Golem erupted beneath Hoothoot with a powerful uppercut of its rocky fist.
Hoothoot was knocked higher into the air, flapping frantically to recover.
"Peck!" Falkner called.
Hoothoot dove, its sharp beak gleaming.
"Rock Blast!" Giselle countered.
Golem fired a rapid barrage of glowing rocks. The projectiles struck Hoothoot mid-dive, sending the owl spinning. Before it could regain control, Golem charged forward and slammed into it with a full-powered Take Down.
Hoothoot crashed hard onto the battlefield and did not get up.
"Hoothoot is unable to battle!" the referee declared. "Golem wins!"
Giselle’s eyes sharpened with quiet pride as she recalled her partner’s strength. The first match of the Violet Gym challenge was hers.
Falkner recalled his fallen Hoothoot with a calm expression and immediately reached for his next Poké Ball. "Impressive. But let’s see how you handle this. Dodrio, take the field!"
The three-headed bird Pokémon appeared with a sharp cry, its powerful legs already tensed for speed. Falkner crossed his arms, a confident smirk on his face. "No challenger has ever defeated my Dodrio. It will not fall today either."
Giselle’s eyes narrowed. "Golem, stay sharp!"
The battle began the moment the referee’s flag dropped.
"Dodrio, Tri Attack!" Falkner ordered.
All three heads of Dodrio fired beams of fire, ice, and electricity at once. The combined attack streaked across the rooftop.
"Golem, Rock Polish and dig!" Giselle commanded.
Golem’s rocky body gleamed as its speed increased, then it sank underground just before the Tri Attack struck. Moments later the ground exploded beneath Dodrio as Golem erupted with a powerful Earthquake.
The three-headed bird staggered but quickly recovered, using its superior speed to leap high and counter with a fierce Drill Peck that slammed into Golem’s side.
"Again! Fury Attack!" Falkner shouted.
Dodrio’s three heads struck in rapid succession, pecking and slamming into Golem with relentless force. Cracks began to form across the Rock-type’s body.
"Golem, Stone Edge!" Giselle ordered, her voice firm.
Sharp pillars of rock erupted from the battlefield, forcing Dodrio to weave between them. One pillar clipped the bird’s leg, but Dodrio used the momentum to launch a devastating Double-Edge. The full-body tackle crashed into Golem with bone-shaking force. Golem skidded backward, its rocky armor crumbling in several places.
"Finish it, Dodrio! Tri Attack once more!"
The three beams struck Golem squarely. With a heavy groan, the massive Pokémon collapsed and did not rise.
"Golem is unable to battle!" the referee declared.
Giselle bit her lip but quickly recalled her partner. "You did well, Golem. Rest now." She reached for her next Poké Ball. "Electabuzz, it’s your turn!"
The Electric-type appeared with a crackling roar, yellow fur standing on end as sparks danced across its body.
Misty cheered from the sidelines. "Go, Giselle! You’ve got this!"
Sabrina nodded. "Keep your distance and control the pace."
Daisy, Erika, and Melody added their support as the second match began.
"Dodrio, Agility!" Falkner commanded.
Dodrio’s speed surged even higher, becoming a blur across the rooftop.
"Electabuzz, Thunder Wave!" Giselle countered immediately.
A wave of paralyzing electricity shot forward. Even with Agility, Dodrio could not completely avoid it. One of its legs stiffened for a brief moment, slowing its movement just enough.
"Now, Thunderbolt!"
A powerful bolt of lightning crashed down on Dodrio. The three-headed bird screeched in pain but refused to fall. It retaliated with a fierce Jump Kick that connected solidly with Electabuzz’s chest, sending the Electric-type skidding backward.
"Again! Drill Peck!"
Dodrio dove with spinning beaks. Electabuzz crossed its arms and took the hit, then grabbed one of Dodrio’s necks with a crackling fist.
"Thunder Punch!" Giselle ordered.
Electricity exploded on contact. Dodrio staggered, its heads shaking.
"Don’t let up! Dual Chop into Thunderbolt!"
Electabuzz’s arms glowed as it delivered two heavy chops, then followed with another full-powered Thunderbolt. The combined assault finally brought Dodrio to its knees. The three-headed Pokémon collapsed, smoke rising from its feathers.
"Dodrio is unable to battle!" the referee announced.
Falkner’s confident expression finally cracked. He recalled Dodrio with a tight frown and sent out his final Pokémon. "Pidgeot, I choose you!"
The magnificent bird soared into the sky, its wings catching the wind with elegant power.
The battle between Electabuzz and Pidgeot was fierce from the start.
"Pidgeot, Hurricane!" Falkner shouted.
A massive swirling storm of wind and rain formed above the rooftop, slamming into Electabuzz with relentless force.
"Electabuzz, dig to avoid it!" Giselle ordered.
Electabuzz vanished underground, but Pidgeot was ready. The moment Electabuzz emerged, Pidgeot struck with a precise Aerial Ace that sent the Electric-type tumbling.
"Quick Attack into Wing Attack!"
Pidgeot became a silver blur, slamming into Electabuzz twice in rapid succession.
Electabuzz managed to land a solid Thunder Punch that staggered the bird, but Pidgeot recovered quickly and finished the exchange with a powerful Air Slash that knocked Electabuzz out cold.
"Electabuzz is unable to battle!"
Giselle took a deep breath and reached for her final Poké Ball. "Salamence... it’s time."
The Dragon/Flying-type emerged with a mighty roar that shook the entire rooftop. Its blue scales gleamed under the open sky, and its powerful wings spread wide.
Ash’s eyes sharpened with pride. "Show him everything, Giselle."
The final match began.
"Pidgeot, Air Slash!" Falkner commanded.
"Salamence, Dragon Claw!" Giselle answered.
The two attacks collided in midair, creating a shockwave of force. Salamence pushed through and raked Pidgeot with glowing claws.
"Hurricane!"
"Fly!"
Salamence soared higher, avoiding the worst of the storm, then dove with devastating speed. Its body glowed as it slammed into Pidgeot with a full-powered Fly attack.
"One more! Dragon Pulse!"
A concentrated beam of draconic energy erupted from Salamence’s mouth and struck Pidgeot cleanly. The Flying-type spiraled downward and crashed onto the battlefield, unable to continue.
"Pidgeot is unable to battle! The winner is Giselle!"
The rooftop fell silent for a moment before Ash’s harem erupted in cheers.
Falkner recalled his final Pokémon and walked forward with a respectful expression.
He reached into his jacket and presented a gleaming badge shaped like a pair of wings.
"You fought with true strength and determination," he said. "Giselle... this is the Zephyr Badge. You’ve earned it."
Giselle accepted the badge with both hands, her eyes shining. "Thank you, Gym Leader Falkner."
Falkner then turned to Ash. " your partner’s Pokémon will need time to recover before our battle. I can have them healed at the Pokémon Center first."
Ash stepped forward, his expression calm but serious. "Actually... I’d like to challenge your elite team instead of your regular one."
Falkner’s eyes widened slightly. "My elite team is far stronger and more experienced. They are easily ten times more powerful than the Pokémon I just used. Are you certain?"
Ash met his gaze without hesitation. "I’ll be using my most experienced partners as well. You don’t need to hold back."
A slow, competitive smile spread across Falkner’s face. "Very well, Ash Ketchum. Once my elite team is ready... we battle."
The wind howled across the rooftop as the two Trainers faced each other, the next challenge already beginning to take shape.
