Chapter 1038: Chapter 1255: Magearna
Chapter 1038: Chapter 1255: Magearna
After lunch, Julian lay on the sofa scrolling through his phone. A little past one, Love went out, and a little past two, Slowking also left.
With both of them gone, Julian, who had been lying on the sofa, immediately put down his phone. Beside him, Celebi and Jirachi did the same.
The three then looked at each other.
"Jirachi, confirm that Slowking and Love have both left," Julian said in a hushed voice.
Jirachi nodded. As a First-class Legendary, even if Julian had spoiled it rotten, it could still manage a simple task like sensing whether Slowking and Love had completely left.
"Report, they've both left!" Jirachi saluted.
The moment it heard that, Celebi immediately became excited. Flying onto Julian's head, it impatiently said: "Julian, I want a double cheeseburger, spicy buffalo wings, roast spring chicken, and fried duck rack!"
Jirachi also followed up: "I want ice cream, Old Man Ken's family bucket, grilled sausages, and an eight-inch pizza!"
The two little ones had already started placing orders impatiently.
Julian nodded and began ordering on his phone, his fingers trembling slightly with excitement—a rather pathetic sight.
After all, it was just ordering takeout.
Julian felt that you simply couldn't understand this feeling. He hadn't eaten takeout in a very long time.
"Mage~"
Just as Julian was rapidly placing orders, Magearna's voice suddenly sounded in his ears.
Magearna: "What would you like for dinner?"
It was just a simple inquiry, but it frightened Julian, Celebi, and Jirachi so much that all three of them nearly jumped out of their skin.
"What's wrong?"
Seeing the terrified expressions on their faces, Magearna became confused.
"Nothing."
Julian immediately shook his head, adding, "Magearna, I had quite a full lunch, so let's keep dinner light—I'll just have some boiled shrimp."
If he got full at dinner, then how was he supposed to eat the takeout?
Celebi and Jirachi instantly grasped the meaning behind Julian's words and chimed in as well.
"I'll just eat some vegetables."
"I only need seaweed soup."
These two were even more extreme than Julian.
"That's all?" Magearna asked.
"Mm."
The three nodded in unison.
Magearna froze for a moment. The excited look she'd had, thinking she could finally cook for Julian alone, instantly crumbled into one of sadness and disappointment.
Usually, the three of them ate ten dishes per meal, and most of them were meat dishes.
But now that it was finally Magearna's turn to cook for them, they only ordered these few things—and all of them were incredibly simple.
Were they afraid its cooking would taste bad?
The more it thought about it, the more wronged it felt.
Large tears immediately began falling right in front of Julian.
"Magearna, what's wrong? What happened? Who bullied you?"
Completely baffled, Julian hurriedly put down his phone. Feeling the aggrieved aura radiating in waves from Magearna, his heart instantly ached, while anger also appeared on his face.
"Tell me, who bullied you? I'll kill them!"
Seeing his own child hurt like this, Julian now wanted nothing more than to beat that culprit to death.
But Magearna didn't answer. Instead, it kept staring straight at Julian.
"Magearna, why are you looking at me? Hurry up and tell me—who bullied you?" Julian anxiously asked.
Jirachi seemed to have figured it out and secretly tugged at the corner of Julian's shirt, but Julian, who was still fuming, didn't notice.
Seeing how much its trainer cared about her, Magearna suddenly did not know whether to feel happy or sad. Faced with Julian's questioning, it still said nothing and continued staring at him.
Julian finally seemed to catch on, and subconsciously pointing at himself, he asked, "I bullied you?"
His tone was still filled with uncertainty.
"Mage~"
Magearna nodded.
"When did I—"
He didn't finish the sentence before it hit him.
What he'd just done really had hurt Magearna.
Come to think of it, today was the first time Magearna, without Love and Slowking around, was going to cook dinner for him all by itself.
Usually, she only assisted both of them in the kitchen.
Even on the occasions when it did cook, either Love or Slowking was always there beside it.
But today, both of them had left for personal matters, leaving only Magearna behind. So to Magearna, this was practically a trial given by its masters.
And yet, in the end, its Trainer had asked for just one dish. The other two were even worse—normally they could each eat an entire pig in one sitting, but one ordered a single plate of vegetables, and the other just a bowl of soup.
Realizing that his actions truly had hurt Magearna, Julian grabbed Celebi by the foot and held it upside down.
Then under Celebi's bewildered gaze, Julian raised his palm and landed a slap right on its butt.
"Quit your nonsense. Vegetables? What do you mean you just want vegetables? Eat properly!"
"And you too, Jirachi!"
Compared to eating takeout, his Pokémon's happiness was far more important.
After that, Julian ordered three dishes, Celebi ordered four, and Jirachi ordered three—and most of them were dishes that required considerable skill.
Only then did Magearna's mood instantly brighten. It happily brought Lucario and Zeraora out to buy ingredients.
"So what about the takeout? Are we still ordering it or not?"
Rubbing its bottom, Celebi asked with a hint of disappointment.
"We are."
Julian nodded.
"But if we eat well at dinner and order after that, Slowking and Love will definitely be back by then, and the Pidgeot delivering the takeout will absolutely be discovered," Jirachi said worriedly.
"Heh, who said we have to order it at night?"
As Julian spoke, his eyes shone with wisdom.
Under the expectant gazes of the two little ones, he continued: "We can order right now. The takeout can definitely arrive before Magearna gets back."
"Then we immediately stash the takeout in Gengar's belly—that way it'll not only stay warm but also keep the smell contained."
"After we finish dinner, we'll have Slowking take us for a run. Then around eleven or twelve, we'll hit the sack."
"Slowking and Love never come into our rooms while we're sleeping."
"And by then the dinner will also be mostly digested, so the takeout we ordered will be perfect as a midnight snack!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Julian was met with the worshipful gazes of Celebi and Jirachi.
"But tonight you two have to finish everything Magearna cooks. This is Magearna's first time cooking for us without Slowking and Love around."
"If you make her sad, I'll dock both of your allowances for an entire month."
The two little ones immediately nodded at his words.
Magearna had already long since mastered seventy to eighty percent of Slowking's culinary skills, so the food she made tasted quite good. Celebi and Jirachi actually enjoyed eating it quite a bit.
Meanwhile, at the Slow Café, Slowking looked at the dinner menu his little apprentice Magearna had sent him on his phone and replied with a cheering emoji.
"Mage!"
Seeing the message sent back by Slowking-sensei, Magearna became overflowing with motivation.
She, who once didn't even dare to meet strangers, had now—under the guidance of Julian and Slowking—grown bold enough to go out "on her own" with Lucario and Zeraora to buy groceries.
