Chapter 418: Chapter 419: : Absol!
Chapter 419: : Absol!
After saying goodbye to Akiko and Hal, Ash’s group continued their journey across Izabe Island.
On this day, they were passing through a steep, rocky mountain.
"Sigh, I can’t do it anymore! I don’t think I can take even one more step..."
Haruka panted heavily as she leaned against a rock.
"Pull yourself together, Haruka. Once we cross that bridge ahead, we’ll be at Liyado Village soon," Brock said.
Ash looked at the wisps of smoke visible on the other side of the bridge and said, "That’s right, Haruka, it’s not much further now. Just hang in there a little longer."
"Okay!"
Haruka mustered her energy, stood up, and continued walking.
When the group reached the bridge Brock had mentioned, Ash noticed that the river below was rushing violently.
At the same time, on the mountain on the other side, a powerful Aura was rapidly approaching them.
Looking at the village not far away on the other side, Haruka said excitedly, "Let’s hurry across the bridge!"
Ash reached out to stop her and warned, "Wait a second, there’s something wrong with this bridge."
"This river is so turbulent!"
Brock’s voice had just trailed off.
A sound of wood snapping echoed from the middle of the bridge.
Boom!
Accompanied by a loud crash, the bridge, which had seemed normal just moments ago, suddenly collapsed.
The next second, an Absol appeared on the other side of the river.
[Pokémon: Absol] [Type: Dark] [Gender: Female] [Level: Pre-Elite Initial] [Ability: Super Luck (With Super Luck, attacks are more likely to land a critical hit on the opponent)] [Potential: Pre-Champion] [Moves: Quick Attack, Crunch, Slash, Whirlwind Cut, Hyper Beam, Swords Dance, Night Slash, Sucker Punch, Future Sight...]
"Is that an Absol?"
Seeing the big white-furred creature on the other side, Haruka and Brock were very surprised.
Before, during the Millennium Comet Festival, they had heard Ash say that Absol would appear where a disaster was about to occur, notifying the humans and wild Pokémon there to evacuate early.
Now that an Absol had appeared in this place, it was clear that something big was about to happen nearby!
Seeing that Ash and the others were not injured, the Absol turned around, intending to leave.
"Wait!"
Ash hurriedly called out to stop it.
To be honest, he really wanted to catch an Absol, such an extremely rare Pokémon; its priority was even higher than catching that disgrace of a legendary Pokémon, the water dog!
The instinct to avoid disaster—that is a god-tier skill!
Plus, an Absol can perform Mega Evolution. A Mega Absol is way cooler than that disgrace of a legendary, okay? Those big white wings...
The Absol turned its head and glanced at Ash. It saw longing in the way Ash looked at it... a look it had never seen in the eyes of any human who had encountered it before.
Just as it was about to communicate with Ash, the villagers of Liyado Village arrived, having heard the noise.
When they saw the Absol standing next to the collapsed bridge, they immediately pinned the blame for the bridge’s destruction on the Absol.
"That wretched Absol!"
"It destroyed the bridge again..."
Sensing the hateful glares from the villagers, the Absol leaped away from the scene in a few bounds.
"Ash, the people of Liyado Village seem to have a deep-seated prejudice against that Absol," Brock said in a low voice.
Ash nodded silently. "Yeah, I can see that. Judging by the direction the Absol left in, the source of this disaster is on that mountain. Let’s ask those villagers about the situation in a bit."
"Then, Ash, aren’t we going to help clear the Absol’s name?" Haruka asked.
"Clearing its name is necessary, but it’s hard to change the public’s opinion just by talking. So, I plan to catch that Absol, and then join forces with Dr. Oak, Dr. Oda, and other top academic experts from various regions to vindicate the Absol together."
It wasn’t as if Ash hadn’t cleared an Absol’s name from the stigma of being a ’disaster beast’ before, but deeply ingrained, long-standing impressions are very difficult to break.
Furthermore, if the fact that Absol possesses the ability to predict disasters were made public, perhaps bounty hunters would find a way to get rich off it, which would undoubtedly be a fatal blow to wild Absol.
After all, Pokémon like Absol are solitary creatures and are extremely rare in number.
After arriving at Liyado Village, Ash’s group received the same answer from different villagers: the Absol had attacked their village and had been stationed on the nearby rocky mountain for a long time.
As for what these villagers called ’attacking the village,’ it was, without exception, a case of the spring water causing damage to the bridge. The Absol had been present during all three instances of bridge damage, and thus, the misunderstanding was born.
Ash knew just by the tone of these villagers that this misunderstanding was deep, so he had no intention of explaining it to them. He simply called Haruka and the others and headed toward the rocky mountain.
Accompanying them, in addition to the Team Rocket Trio who had accepted the villagers’ bounty to capture the Absol, was a child named Ade.
This child was the only person in Liyado Village who firmly believed that the Absol was not the true culprit behind the bridge destruction.
Ash and the others also learned from Ade that shortly after the Absol appeared, his older brother, Satoshi, had volunteered to capture the Absol, but for some unknown reason, Satoshi had left the village without saying goodbye.
As they walked, the Team Rocket Trio couldn’t keep up with Ash and the others due to exhaustion, and they eventually got lost and ended up climbing to the top of a huge, round rock.
Meanwhile, Ash’s group reached the summit of the rocky mountain.
Haruka looked at the muddy ground around them and asked in confusion, "Strange, isn’t this a rocky mountain? Why is there more water on the ground the higher we go?"
Brock walked over to a rock wall and reached out to touch it. "Water is constantly seeping out of this rock wall too..."
Ash placed his hand on the rock wall and used his Aura to carefully investigate the condition of the mountain through the rock. "There is an underground water vein flowing beneath this mountain, and a section of the rock plate at the summit is hollow. I estimate it won’t hold up for much longer."
At this moment, Ade looked at the square rock at the top of the rocky mountain and shouted, "Absol!"
On the round boulder halfway up the mountain, Jessie complained, "To think it’s standing in such a high place!"
"Doesn’t its butt feel chilly standing in such a high place?" James also said, eyes wide, as he complained.
"I’m already feeling chilly right here, Meowth."
The moment Meowth finished speaking, the boulder beneath their feet began to sway back and forth, as if it were about to roll down at any moment.
