Chapter 318: Chapter 318: Whip Me Harder, Bayleef!

A/N:1/5 Bonus Chapters

-----------------------

The amount of food they needed to prepare had increased.

Did that mean the situation at the front was good, or bad?

After the middle-aged human soldier left, Mr. Mime sighed.

"Food for one thousand soldiers... they’re trying to work us to death!"

"Let’s start."

The four Pokémon began preparing food in an orderly manner.

Machamp walked into the kitchen with a large basket of ingredients on his back.

"I’m here to deliver ingredients."

Mr. Mime waved a hand.

"Put them beside Totodile."

Machamp put down the ingredients and watched the four Pokémon preparing food. For some reason, he felt their movements had become much faster.

After thinking about it, Machamp shook his head again.

They had to prepare food for one thousand soldiers. Of course their movements had to be faster.

Mr. Mime’s kitchen made soup, while another kitchen prepared black bread.

Machamp still had to deliver ingredients there too.

After preparing food for one thousand soldiers, Mr. Mime wiped the sweat from his forehead.

Why does it feel less tiring than before?

Mr. Mime looked at Torchic.

Torchic was already lying on the ground. Chikorita was also half-dead. Only Totodile was still full of energy.

Julian sighed helplessly.

This Totodile really wanted to become a soldier so badly he was not even bothering to act.

That was right.

Julian and Chikorita were pretending to be exhausted.

Four carefully selected meals every day, combined with the high-intensity work of preparing food by using moves— how could there possibly be no change at all?

The soldiers ate three meals of half-cooked food.

The cooks ate four carefully prepared meals.

And this idiot Totodile still wanted to become a soldier.

Another ten days passed.

Totodile sighed helplessly.

"If I keep cooking every day like this, when am I supposed to evolve into Croconaw?"

Julian could not help teasing him.

"If you really want to evolve, you could try asking Chikorita to whip you with Vine Whip."

Chikorita’s eyes widened.

"What does that have to do with me?"

He curiously jumped over to Julian and asked, "Does that really work?"

Julian had told them to hide ingredients, and they really had become much stronger.

He was now very willing to listen to Torchic’s suggestions.

"It works, but you might get hurt. You’d better ask Mr. Mime for his opinion."

Mr. Mime said calmly, "As long as it doesn’t affect the cooking, do whatever you want."

Mr. Mime had already sensed that something was not quite right.

He had also become much stronger, but he had not found the reason.

His instinct told him that this change was definitely connected to these three.

Torchic jumped into the basin.

"Totodile, use Water Gun on me first."

Totodile immediately did as he was told.

The Water Gun struck Torchic’s body, making Julian unable to stop trembling.

He had not expected that even an ordinary Water Gun would feel this awful when it hit a Torchic.

Torchic jumped out of the basin, his claws staggering so badly that he almost fell.

He immediately stirred up the fire inside his body, doing his best to evaporate the moisture from his feathers.

Meanwhile, Totodile and Chikorita had already begun whipping with a series of sharp cracks.

Totodile gritted his teeth and said, "Chikorita, harder!"

The Vine Whip hurt when it struck his body, but Totodile really did feel his body heating up.

There was a swollen, swelling sensation, as if something inside him was about to burst out.

Totodile believed this was what it felt like to be close to evolving!

In truth, he had simply been whipped until he was swollen.

Chikorita wanted to stop, but he kept begging her to continue.

After the whipping finally ended, she still had to bring Totodile several Oran Berries to replenish his strength.

Of course, she ate plenty herself too.

Mr. Mime rotated three Oran Berries with telekinesis, then placed them into his mouth one by one and swallowed them all.

"It’s about time. Start cooking."

Another five days passed.

The middle-aged human soldier walked into the kitchen. There was now a claw mark from some unknown Pokémon across his armour.

"From today onwards, prepare food for eight hundred soldiers."

After the soldier left, Totodile’s expression became both disappointed and excited.

"Our army lost. They might need to replenish new soldiers. I need to hurry up and evolve into Croconaw. Then I’ll definitely be able to join them as a new soldier!"

"Chikorita, later, please whip me as hard as you can!"

Julian shook his head and continued strengthening his stamina and firepower according to plan.

After the day’s work was finished, Chikorita was forcefully whipping Totodile.

Suddenly, her body bloomed with intense white light.

Totodile’s mouth fell open.

Ah...

Impossible!

Absolutely impossible!

How had Chikorita evolved before him?

Actually, Chikorita herself was a little confused too.

Other than cooking every day and occasionally whipping Totodile, she had only followed Julian’s advice and gone to sunny places to photosynthesise.

That was enough to evolve?

Watching Chikorita’s body lengthen as she evolved into Bayleef, Totodile lowered his head in frustration.

Mr. Mime immediately clapped.

"Bayleef, excellent. Now we don’t have to worry about the kitchen being unable to keep up."

Totodile, however, said, "Bayleef will probably be conscripted into the army, and we’ll have to replace her with a newcomer to keep cutting vegetables."

Mr. Mime waved his hand.

"No. Cooking also requires experienced hands. Compared to that bit of strength, preparing food for the soldiers faster is more important."

Totodile seemed to turn grey-white in an instant.

"Then doesn’t that mean I can only stay in this kitchen washing vegetables for the rest of my life?"

Mr. Mime said calmly, "If you really want to become a soldier, I can ask the minister to arrange another Pokémon to come wash vegetables."

"Once you evolve, I’ll immediately have you sent to the army to fight on the front line."

Totodile jumped up and down excitedly.

"Thank you, Captain!"

Mr. Mime went to find the minister, while Totodile continued jumping around excitedly.

Julian frowned slightly.

"After Bayleef evolved, the amount of food she needs increased. We can only hide so many ingredients."

"Now there’ll be one more Pokémon too. Totodile, how do you plan to divide it?"

Bayleef said very generously, "I’ve already evolved, so ordinary food is fine for me. You two and Captain can split the better food."

"As for the new Pokémon, let him eat the big-pot food with me."

Totodile was somewhat embarrassed.

"Thank you, Bayleef!"

The next day, a somewhat timid Oshawott was sent to the kitchen.

Totodile enthusiastically brought Oshawott along and taught him how to wash vegetables.

Washing them clean without damaging them also required professional technique.

When Mr. Mime saw Bayleef prepare two pots of food, he tasted both.

After discovering that the flavours were different, he immediately reacted.

His expression changed, and he asked in a low voice, "You’ve been diverting ingredients?"

Totodile lowered his head.

"Yes, Captain."

Mr. Mime clenched his fists.

"Do you know that if this is discovered, all of us will be beheaded?"

Julian said calmly, "Captain, for eight hundred soldiers, diverting such a small amount won’t cause a problem."

Mr. Mime sighed helplessly.

"Fine. Let it be. You’ll get us killed sooner or later! Once Totodile leaves, everything goes back to normal!"

After being whipped by Bayleef for five days, Totodile finally evolved into Croconaw.

Seeing the familiar middle-aged human soldier, Croconaw became extremely excited.

"Have you finally come to conscript me?"

The middle-aged human soldier said coldly, "Bayleef, Croconaw, both of you have evolved. That means your strength should be enough to complete this mission."

"There isn’t enough food in the city. The soldiers need to fight on the front line, so the task of gathering food can only be handed to your kitchen."

"I will lead a squad of soldiers and draw away all the enemy scouts, buying you enough time to collect food."

"Remember. You may die outside, but the food must come back."
