Pokemon: Bounty Hunter Alex
Chapter 596. Hoopa’s Beautiful Life
Hoopa had never known how beautiful life could be until it met its trainer. Before that, it thought using humans’ greed for shiny, yellow things to get food was already great.
How wrong Hoopa had been.
It all started with delicious, sweet, hole-shaped foods called donuts. Then its trainer brought it back to his home, where Hoopa was given hole-shaped meat that was so delicious that eating it made Hoopa stronger. There were also lots of different foods, so Hoopa would never get bored. There were hole-shaped burgers, hole-shaped pizza, hole-shaped lasagna, and even hole-shaped cakes.
Hoopa also met many kind people there, especially Lina and Vera. Hoopa liked them both very much because they always gave Hoopa delicious food. Hoopa decided that its trainer's home was a good place, and nowhere else could compare now that it had gotten a taste of a better life.
But it wasn't just Hoopa's taste that had changed. Hoopa could think a little better now and understand things it couldn’t before. It was probably the energy from its trainer inside its body that made it feel calm. Before, Hoopa always wanted to go out and play pranks. Now, it was happy to just relax.
Life was good.
Now, it lay comfortably on a hole-shaped bed inside a hole-shaped cave on a hole-shaped island. The cave wasn’t just a boring cave with nothing in it, though. The entire hole-shaped room was decorated with purple and gold, from the walls and ceiling to the shiny floor. It was a room fit for a king.
Fit for Hoopa.
There were hole-shaped pillows scattered everywhere, hole-shaped furniture made to fit Hoopa’s impressive size, and hole-shaped tables where it could eat all its hole-shaped food.
It wasn’t all luxuries, though. Hoopa still had to work like everyone else.
Luckily, the work was easy.
At first, Hoopa had to find some puke-colored metal. Hoopa had never seen anything like it before, so it told its trainer that it didn’t know where to find it. After some talking, its trainer showed Hoopa a memory of the place where the metal could be found.
So Hoopa made a hole to that place.
Its trainer sighed before calling over someone named Sable. Then, the two of them went through the hole together. Soon, its trainer had all the puke-colored metal they could ever want.
Hoopa had done a good job.
A few days later, Hoopa was brought to the island cave, where it was given a room filled with all kinds of hole-shaped things. From the comfort of its room, Hoopa could make holes to any place its trainer wanted to go, which was very useful.
Whenever its trainer wanted more metal, Hoopa would use his memories to make a hole to the right place, allowing its trainer and Sable to go through. Once they found the puke-colored metal, they would toss it into another hole that Hoopa made for them. The metal would then come out through a hole in Hoopa’s room and fall down the hole in the room into the storage place below. That way, all the metal went where it was supposed to go without filling up Hoopa’s nice room.
Hoopa thought this was very clever. Its trainer thought so too.
Days turned into months. Hoopa helped its trainer with his work while slowly growing stronger from all the delicious food.
One day, its trainer asked Hoopa to make a tiny hole that would let him talk to Hoopa and give it instructions whenever he wanted.
Hoopa didn’t like this. If its trainer could always talk to it, that meant Hoopa would always have work to do. But Hoopa also wanted to keep eating delicious food and getting stronger, so it made the tiny hole anyway.
The tiny hole always used a little bit of Hoopa’s energy, but only a very little bit. Its trainer said this was part of Hoopa’s training to make it stronger, so Hoopa decided it must be true.
Its trainer then went back to the place where he had first found Hoopa. After that, he went somewhere else using a different Hoopa’s powers.
Hoopa found this very interesting.
It was a good thing Hoopa had made the tiny hole.
Then something even more amazing happened. Its trainer came back to the island and found Hoopa without Hoopa making a hole for him.
Amazing!
Hoopa didn’t know how its trainer did it, but it thought this new trick was very cool.
Then, training began.
One day, Hoopa was relaxing in its room, watching television while eating breakfast, when its trainer came in and told it that it had gotten fat.
Hoopa wasn’t fat!
Hoopa’s body was majestic!
Then its trainer pointed at the hole-shaped table. Hoopa looked down and saw its belly pressing against it.
Okay... maybe Hoopa was getting a little bigger.
Its trainer suggested going to the training grounds in the middle of the island. Hoopa immediately made a hole to get there.
Its trainer told Hoopa to walk instead.
Hoopa didn’t like that. But maybe seeing the scenery would be nice.
Hoopa stood up, walked over the table, and followed its trainer outside. From the entrance of the cave, Hoopa could see the noisy metal city that belonged to the person named Rhea. Beyond the city was the big blue ocean stretching all the way to the horizon, while the big farm where all the other Pokémon always worked was to the right.
Hoopa suddenly realized it had a pretty good job. All Hoopa had to do was make holes, and it didn’t even have to do that every day!
Hoopa followed its trainer through the fields until they turned right onto a stone path leading through the forest. At the end of the path was a huge tunnel that was really tall. Hoopa could easily walk through it, even with its majestic size.
On the other side was the training ground where all the strong Pokémon fought and trained. There was a hole in the middle of the training ground that led underground. Sable liked playing down there sometimes. Hoopa liked Sable because Sable liked Hoopa too. She had even told Hoopa that it could make as many holes as it wanted for her mining.
Hoopa liked that.
To the left of the hole was an obstacle course. Fast Pokémon could run around, jump over pillars, and dodge attacks there. On the right side of the training ground, metal people were building something big. The last time Hoopa had come here, it had been small. Now, there were already several huge walls being built.
Hoopa’s trainer quickly headed toward the left where Pokémon were fighting. Hoopa was forced to remember all kinds of powerful moves, but as a powerful Psychic type, Hoopa had no trouble remembering. The other Pokémon looked at Hoopa with awe and reverence, and Hoopa liked that very much.
Then Hoopa had to fight 5 Pokémon at once. There was Ceruledge, Kommo-o, Togekiss, Dusknoir, and Lucario. They were all very strong. Luckily, Hoopa had Hyperspace Fury. Hoopa liked Hyperspace Fury because it could hit all five of them at once, even when they ran really fast or hid behind Protect. Hoopa was winning easily!
But there was only one Hoopa. After taking attacks from all five Pokémon, Hoopa was close to fainting.
Hoopa wanted to get angry. It knew lots of scary Pokémon from all the places it had visited, mostly because Hoopa liked playing pranks on them. Hoopa could call some of them and make them very angry. Before Hoopa could get too angry, however, it felt Alex’s cold stare.
Hoopa remembered what had happened last time. Strange energy had torn through Hoopa's body, hurting more than Hoopa ever wanted to remember.
Hoopa wasn’t getting angry anymore. It was better to just faint, so Hoopa fainted.
When Hoopa woke up, it had to fight again. This time, there was a Gallade, Lopunny, Grim, Hydreigon, and Azuking. Hoopa fought them until it fainted again. Then it woke up and fought again. And again. And again.
Hoopa fought all day. Sometimes it was fun, and sometimes it was painful, but the hole-shaped food waiting at the end of the day was always especially delicious, so Hoopa decided it wasn't so bad.
Then Mira would come and massage Hoopa's tired body, making all the aches feel much better. Hoopa liked Mira very much.
Besides, Hoopa didn't have to fight like this every day. It only happened when Hoopa's waist touched its hole-shaped table, so Hoopa was happy whenever it got to enjoy the good food and Mira's massages afterward.
And so, Hoopa’s beautiful new life continued, filled with eating, training, and making holes.
One day, Hoopa’s trainer left and went somewhere using another Hoopa’s powers. Through the tiny hole Hoopa had made for its trainer to carry, Hoopa could see a whole new world.
Hoopa rarely went to places like this. Hoopa sometimes made random holes to look for strong Pokémon to play pranks on, greedy humans to take food from, or to visit new lands. But this world was completely different from all the others.
At first, the place looked normal. There were lots of trees, lots of small buildings, and lots of greedy people.
Then Hoopa saw the Pokémon.
They were huge. Stupidly huge. They were much, much bigger than they should have been. It was the kind of place Hoopa would never want to visit, yet its trainer had gone there anyway.
Hoopa thought its trainer was very brave.
Or maybe just very strange.
Its trainer eventually asked for a hole and returned to the island, which Hoopa thought was the smart choice. But the next day, its trainer went back there again.
Hoopa had given up trying to understand what its trainer was thinking. And so, Hoopa simply watched as its trainer went off on another new adventure.
