Players, Please Board the Train
Chapter 845: A Will
"There are quite a few methods." Bai Kou said. "In some Districts with advanced technology, surgery can achieve it too, but most of those are direct removal. Sealing memories is more like a player's technique."
"Erasing real-world records isn't hard either. Some items can do it."
"That's what I'm saying..." She sized up Xu Huo with a serious expression, "but it's actually very troublesome to pull off. Since the other party considered you valuable enough, they must have had some purpose. There's no reason to keep your memories sealed forever."
"Maybe they thought it wasn't worth it." Xu Huo said. The other party had already come to find him.
Bai Kou waved her hand dismissively. "Generally speaking, someone who'd do something like this isn't a good person. Whatever they'd have you do would most likely be bad. Staying as you are is fine."
"How so?" Xu Huo said with a slight smile. "At the very least, I want my own memories to be completely clear."
Bai Kou looked at him with a knowing smile. "Something countless people would beg for, and you don't even want it."
"There are many things people can't control, but at the very least, they should control themselves." Xu Huo said meaningfully.
"Words don't agree, half a sentence is too much." Bai Kou gave a cold snort and turned to go back into her room.
Xu Huo returned to his bedroom in high spirits. The next morning, he took the initiative to bring breakfast and knock on Bai Kou's door, formally asking her about the methods of Super Evolution.
Bai Kou gave the same old answer — write a will and she'd teach him.
Xu Huo invited Mr. Dong over and, with him as witness, wrote out his will. It stated that if he were to die unexpectedly one day, Rose Castle and everything he'd inherited from He Pu would go to her, and even his remaining assets could be inherited by her as well.
Mr. Dong's gaze was ice cold, and Bai Kou furrowed her brows too. "Who wants your measly things? I only want what belonged to He Pu."
"Consider it compensation." Xu Huo said good-naturedly. "I've also caused some wear and tear while living in the castle."
Bai Kou was still displeased. "Are you scheming to make me raise your kids?"
"That won't be necessary," Xu Huo said. "I can live for at least a few more decades. By then Xiao Yuan will have grown up. I'll leave a sum of money for her to stand on her own feet. As for Lichun, it depends on her own choice — it'd be even better if you're willing to let her live here."
Bai Kou mocked his overconfidence. "The last player who made bold claims before me about living to old age died in a dungeon second."
"Wouldn't it be better for you if I died?" Xu Huo handed her the will to sign.
There were no additional conditions. After skimming through it, Bai Kou signed without hesitation, then picked it up and held it in front of Mr. Dong. "Maybe next month I'll be the master here. If you don't want to be kicked out, work honestly."
Mr. Dong gazed at the scenery outside, as if he were a true mute.
Bai Kou didn't mind. The will was made in triplicate, and she took one copy. In a rather good mood, she said, "We can start now."
With that, she waved her hand to signal Mr. Dong to leave.
Before leaving, Mr. Dong encouraged Xu Huo. "Sir, you must study well."
Only after he closed the door did Bai Kou sneer. "Afraid you'll die early, is he? As an item, he's certainly dedicated to his duty."
Xu Huo didn't interject. After a moment, Bai Kou steered back to the main topic. "Since you can project your Mental World outward, you should be able to perceive your surroundings through barriers."
Xu Huo had already been able to do this before he'd learned to project his Mental World outward. Under normal circumstances, even players with sharp senses and keen hearing would find it difficult to detect someone ahead of time through one or two walls when the other party was covering their tracks. They'd usually rely on items. But after Mental evolution, that wasn't needed — even without hearing any sound, he could sense that someone was outside, as well as their general state.
However, this sensation wasn't detailed. It was more like viewing an object as a complete whole. For instance, with a person, he couldn't determine their specific movements through a wall — it was like a ball, where moving back and forth, left and right, or speeding up and slowing down was very noticeable.
"Mental evolution counts as a foundation. Being able to perceive a wider space helps you better understand extroverted Super Evolution. Object control is actually a form of control over space." Bai Kou produced a mechanical glove. "Give me your hand."
Xu Huo did as she said and put his hand inside. She didn't let go, instead pressing her own hand onto the groove on the back of the glove. "First, feel the movement of space."
A few seconds later, she asked, "What do you feel?"
"My senses have been amplified," Xu Huo said. "You just touched the vase behind me."
Bai Kou raised an eyebrow. "Not bad. This glove can enhance the power I release, ensuring it expands to a degree you can perceive. It's similar in nature to the stronger kinetic force you felt before — except what I'm touching is space."
"You have a concept of space. Understanding this kind of control isn't hard. You can imagine space as something more subtle — just as your fingers brushing through air can feel the airflow, after Super Evolution, a person can perceive even smaller things. It's somewhat like superpowers."
"But this isn't a superpower. Rather, after evolution, a person reaches a certain frequency with time and space. In simpler terms, you've developed commonalities with certain 'non-material' things in time and space that we can't see."
"Be meticulous, be patient. Once you cross the threshold, you'll naturally grasp this ability and complete Super Evolution."
Her explanation was quite vague. To summarize, feeling and perception mattered more than everything else — those who could do it would naturally understand.
Xu Huo tried to touch the force she'd stirred up. He felt no physical contact on his body, nor did he have any effect on that force.
"Try again." Bai Kou said.
He tried several more times. The results were the same.
Seeing that Bai Kou was getting a bit irritated, he asked, "How did you begin your Super Evolution?"
"He Pu took me to watch a duel between super players." Bai Kou said. "It started after that. But I wasn't pierced by the power of time and space. This thing is a bit like enlightenment — some people accumulate over years and it comes naturally, others have a flash of insight. It mainly depends on talent."
"You're a smart person. The glove is yours. Practice more."
With that, she swiftly withdrew her hand and got up to leave.
She left briskly enough, but for Xu Huo, the air had simply become air again.
Only after the flight device downstairs had departed did Mr. Dong come to the study. In front of Xu Huo, he demonstrated "Static Reversion" several times.
Xu Huo watched the teacup shatter on the ground and then retrace its path, reassembling into a complete but cracked cup. Only then did he say, "Don't worry. Rose Castle won't be handed over to Bai Kou."
Though he didn't speak, Mr. Dong still showed tremendous distrust toward him. He left the study, only to quickly return, placing an hourglass on the table and breaking a teacup to signal him to watch.
The sand in the hourglass began to flow downward. But once the top portion had emptied, without flipping the hourglass, the sand in the bottom automatically flowed back upward — like a video playing in reverse. At the same time, a faint glimmer refracted from the colored sand. That light enveloped the cup, and as the hourglass reversed, the cup also restored along its trajectory — though it still bore cracks.
