Chapter 1518: Chapter 494: Win the Club’s Young Beauties, Lose and Become the Club’s Young Beauty (Part 3)
Any time Lin Miao made a dungeon like this in real life, no matter true or fake, the players would probably dox him and beat the crap out of him.
But even though the players were all fired up, in the end they still had to face physical reality.
This game doesn’t have teleportation circles; you can’t be in Northrend one second and fly to Stormwind the next. With a whole strait in between, there’s no way to move tens of thousands of players to Georgia in a short time.
And moving such a huge army around—unless both Military Science and New America are blind—there’s no way they’d just turn a blind eye.
How you deploy force abroad is Horizon Corporation’s business, not mine, but what the hell are you trying to do shipping troops around inside the United States?
Planning a coup?
But there’s no way out; what Lin Miao was facing now was basically being forced into the yellow robe. Once this got exposed in the player community, whether to act or not was no longer up to him.
Fortunately, this whole thing had been arranged by Lin Miao in the first place, so he had a clear idea what kind of situation he’d run into, and had already gone back to Washington ahead of time.
Seeing players on the forums already arguing sky-high, he silently put away his terminal, then stood up, put on a terrified expression, and bolted out of the office in a panic.
"Terrible news, Mr. President, something huge just happened! Your... uh no, I mean their mess just blew up!"
What?
All the moles in the Efficiency Department saw their own minister dart out like a madman and hurriedly called out to Alek.
"Get the car ready, I’m going to the White House to see His Majesty!"
————
Before Lin Miao even got to the White House—or rather, right after he walked out the door—Miles had already gotten word that he’d rushed out of his office wanting to see her.
It was hard to imagine that the same Lin Miao who could stir up such a massive storm worldwide, who at a multilateral meeting could stare down the European Community demanding POWs and insist they pay ransom, even shouting that if they were unhappy he’d fight another war—would actually show such a terrified expression.
What on earth happened?
Maybe he’s coming to beg me?
These days Lin Miao had been performing exceedingly well. Not only had he rallied a bunch of young hardline supporters for her nationwide, he’d also lifted her up to an unprecedented, never-to-be-repeated position as the United States of America’s Number One President, practically a Holy Master descended from heaven.
To please her, Lin Miao had even played a few rounds of "Great America Rising, King Miles," "Don’t Say the Riverfolk Are One-Eyed, Stir the Mississippi and the World Revolts," "Message in the Fish Belly," and similar tricks.
And you know what, Americans really bought it. With Voice of the Horizon amplifying it, the effect was outstanding, shaking the whole country for a while.
With all this expectation, Miles finally saw Lin Miao rushing into the White House President’s Office. After she’d waved away all security personnel—
Lin Miao said anxiously,
"Mr. President, how much do you know about what happened in Georgia, in Atlanta?"
Atlanta...
Miles’ heart tightened at the mention of that place.
Anything connected to it was never some small matter.
She straightened her face and said,
"What do you mean? Something happened in Atlanta?"
"You should really take a look."
Lin Miao pulled out his terminal and opened Voice of the Horizon, where he saw that a user named "Today’s Skewer Is Pretty Good" had uploaded a string of images half an hour earlier.
The content was so bloody and horrific it was downright outrageous.
And its influence was expanding like a whale swallowing the sea; if they didn’t stop it, it wouldn’t be long before everyone in the United States knew.
Even Miles’ face went instantly pale.
She wasn’t scared by the pictures themselves, but by the consequences they could bring—consequences even she couldn’t bear.
"Get those damned pictures deleted! Find this bastard!"
"But... but I can’t."
Lin Miao showed a troubled expression.
"Voice of the Horizon is built on a self-evolving program I stumbled upon. In theory, no one can interfere with its data—not even me—unless we find that user and have him delete it himself."
Bullshit. He was that user; if he wanted to delete them, it’d take one tap.
Likewise, Miles didn’t buy a word of it.
"What are you playing at? Do you have any idea how many people will die if this stuff leaks? I’m telling you, if these things aren’t deleted, even I won’t be able to save you this time!"
Lin Miao curled his lip inwardly. Don’t kid me, my dear Mr. President.
As if they’d spare me if I didn’t pull this stunt.
Seventeen medical companies had joined forces to sue him for medical monopoly. Six multinational agribusinesses, including Biotech, United Fruit, and Continental Foods Corporation, had filed suit against Horizon Corporation for unfair competition...
Right now the number of people worldwide who wanted Lin Miao dead was beyond counting. If he hadn’t just won a war and proved that brute force wouldn’t work, would this pack of animals be talking nicely to him? They’d have sent an eighteen-nation Alliance Army to trample his face already.
"Mr. President, you misunderstand me. This really has nothing to do with me. If the people below hadn’t reported it, I wouldn’t even know this happened."
"And look, this guy even has a selfie. He’s a black."
Lin Miao pulled up the guy’s profile page, and Li De’s dark-skinned selfie popped up. With a sinister tone, he said,
"You think this guy might be an agent sent by the European Community, here specifically to expose our dirty laundry?"
Expose your damn mother!
The moment she saw Li De’s face, Miles knew they were screwed.
Who in the world doesn’t know Solomon Lid is your loyal dog, Miles?
When Hansen was taken out, Li De and Alex were operating together. You dare say today’s incident wasn’t on your orders?
At this point, even if Miles jumped into the Yellow River, she couldn’t wash the suspicion off herself. Every single interest group involved would inevitably treat her as a prime suspect.
Seeing her face grow paler and paler, Lin Miao knew the time had come.
He lowered his head and said softly,
"I do have a way to fix this, but I don’t know if you, Mr. President, are willing to gamble once."
