Chapter 1391: Chapter 451: Who Am I? (Part 2)
Although not knowing why the other party was asking, Lancaster still found a tight spot to sit down and said
"Their combat methods are crazy, irrational, and often inexplicably choose to use more extreme and unreasonable tactics. I’ve tried letting AI compute their possible strategic directions, but I’ve never succeeded."
"Initially, I thought they were Cuban soldiers developed by Horizon Corporation using brainwashing technology, but thinking about it now..."
Lancaster shook his head
"It’s impossible. Brainwashed soldiers couldn’t possibly fight to cover a group of villagers, let alone be angered by the bombing of a village. They’re living, breathing humans."
Vazkov raised his hand to interrupt Lancaster’s recollection
"So you’re saying, their protection of Cuban villagers and the large-scale population transfer to Florida are all true?"
Players know the truth of the matter, but that doesn’t mean Europeans do. In the midst of media bombardment, extracting facts from it is very challenging.
Even with Voice of the Horizon holding ground in the media war, the result of two-way bombardment is polarized opinions. Quite a few people still believe that Horizon Corporation is a mad enterprise conducting massacres in Night City and Cuba.
"Yes."
Lancaster suddenly remembered something and hurriedly added
"I heard some Cuban officers say these people seem to have some connection with a guerrilla group, but that guerrilla group should have been extinguished long ago."
During the conversation, Lancaster occasionally used the corner of his eyes to observe Vasenko, but unfortunately, the other party was like a robot, showing no reaction no matter what he said, just quietly listening.
Until confirming Lancaster finished speaking, Vasenko slowly said
"I heard people say you came looking for the KGB."
"...."
Lancaster said somewhat irritably
"I heard my father mention the Red Element, originally intending to find the KGB to understand it, but bumped into you instead."
"The term Red Element is quite serious."
Vasenko’s tone was calm
"They’re labeled as extreme left-wing terrorists, and among everyone, they’re the most detested by the corporation."
"You know them?"
Lancaster’s eyes lit up
"Let me tell you, you’re definitely mistaken. Those guys have nothing to do with terrorists."
He also didn’t understand why advocating for the rights of lower-class civilians to survive was labeled as terrorism.
Logically, only by ensuring ordinary people live without worries and generating sufficient goodwill towards conglomerates, families, and companies can they be motivated to risk their lives on the battlefield.
A bunch of profit-driven, cowardly corporate employees are useless.
When Lancaster returned to Europe, he discovered a fatal issue
That is, the armed company doesn’t have reserve troops, only standing ones. Once they’re all dead, there might be none left.
The armed company’s troops are recruited predominantly from society’s delinquents, illiterates, and other lower-class individuals seeking to become soldiers to earn enough to feed themselves and their families.
Having them enlist requires explicitly signed paper contracts with monthly salaries.
In other words, enlisting is just a job to feed themselves and their families, without any obligation.
If casualties become too massive, if they die too fast, the lower-class won’t enlist for that bit of money, and with the armed company’s limited capital, how many can they recruit?
Soon enough, vast Europe will fall into a state of having no troops to deploy.
Are you kidding me?
This overly abstract predicament made Lancaster increasingly eager to find that buried Red Element, hoping to seek solutions from history.
A solution to pull France back from this precarious cliff edge.
When Lancaster expressed his thoughts, even Vasenko couldn’t help but glance at this guy a few more times.
Seems like that woman wasn’t lying.
Vasenko recalled that some time ago a Soviet Petrochemical agent named Kalenina came to the Arc de Triomphe in France, found the markings left there, and followed clues all the way to Berlin.
Initially, many feared exposure: fortunately, Vasenko stepped up to prevent further escalation of the chaos.
This organization at the lowest level in Berlin was developed by Vasenko over decades, with each member personally vetted, developed, and trained by him.
Its structure was entirely designed according to KGB standards, making them top-notch elite agents.
They’ve been lurking in various strata of cities like Berlin, Munich, Paris, London, never exposed.
The surface Russian mob doesn’t even realize they’re just decorations.
And the woman claimed she wasn’t representing Soviet Petrochemical but rather Horizon Corporation and talked extensively.
Vazkov was unsure how much of what the other party said was true. Now Lancaster was validating quite a bit.
Maybe, after the forest burns, beneath the ashes, new sprouts truly grow once again.
The opportunity it had waited for so long truly arrived.
Thus, Vazkov looked at Lancaster
"I’m satisfied with your answer. In exchange, what do you want to know?"
"I want to know history, the secrets of that army! I want to save France!"
Under Lancaster’s eager gaze, Vazkov took out a chip
"Install it, then go back, act like nothing happened, I’ll reach out to you."
"What you want to know, I’ll tell you everything."
