Chapter 1284: Chapter 416: Stories from the Prisoner-of-War Camp (Part 3)

"Moreover, before we came here, the drug cartels had already rooted themselves in Cuba for decades, severely endangering the safety of local civilians’ lives and property as well as the normal development of social order. To sweep away such pests and restore a peaceful environment for the Cuban people is something we should do—normal people should stand with us."

"And as for these war prisoners, they no longer pose a threat to us. Excessive killing is meaningless, especially since there’s the Geneva Convention. We are a law-abiding company; how could we commit the conscience-less act of killing prisoners?"

I feel like you’re beating around the bush while actually criticizing someone?

While the European Alliance Army doesn’t have prisoners for them to kill, live streaming the mistreatment of local women, and even acts of torture, aren’t absent.

This blatant moral disparity made Henry feel on edge, his face flushed with shame.

Some things aren’t scary when compared to bad, but only when compared to good.

"So what does your company plan to do with these war prisoners?"

"Oh, that."

The Shanxi man took out a small notebook, flipping it open to show Henry.

"These are the daily expenses of the war prisoners, we’ve recorded them in detail. Once the war ends, if the military companies or governments behind them are willing to settle this bill with us, we’ll release the prisoners; otherwise, they’ll have to work for us until they’ve repaid this debt."

What a capitalist calculation!

Truly the mark of a business; squeezing profits out of war prisoners.

Henry forced a smile.

"It seems your company has a lot of confidence in this war."

"Confidence is gained from fighting."

The Shanxi man’s answer was natural.

"Besides, we’re fighting for justice, standing straight and upright. We aren’t the ones bombing Cuban civilians, so why wouldn’t we be confident? Why should we feel guilty?"

While the Shanxi man was dealing with Henry, Brother Dao was busy editing video snippets overtime.

There are hundreds of monitoring cameras at the war prisoners camp, all using high-speed cameras with clear, smooth footage, perfect for making videos.

Lewis, with his keen news reporter instincts, sensed the threat within.

"Doug, if we upload these things to the software and they blow up, it could potentially cause trouble."

"What are you afraid of?"

Brother Dao focused intently on his editing work.

"Back then, you even went to the underground castle; are you really afraid of these?"

"It’s not the same. Compared to the mysterious cults underground, Europeans are much scarier. I’ve heard they use satellites to assassinate troublemakers."

He touched his crown, feeling a bit chilly.

"Moreover, those European colleagues might fully mobilize against us. It might even incite public anger."

"Then bring it on! Worse comes to worst; we can solo roast battle in the live stream room. Who’s afraid of whom, they’d be the coward then. As a journalist, how can you not have some resolve!"

"Sigh..."

Seeing Brother Dao determined to stir trouble with the European Community, Lewis could only risk his life and accompany the gentleman.

Short videos are the new form of entertainment for people worldwide these days. These software applications push tons of related videos and advertisements based on your circles, social interactions, and interests.

Ultimately, these videos flow toward a vast array of product advertisements and loan institutions.

Yet it’s one of the rare fragmented entertainment forms for the underprivileged.

At least it’s better than doing drugs or watching Super Earth, right?

Lina Vaughns lay in bed as usual, scrolling through short videos.

Being one of the earliest short video platforms, Voice of the Horizon is so focused on military content that it’s lacking in entertainment. It has high criteria for streamer qualifications and strict content reviews.

As a result, not many people use it. But thankfully, it doesn’t have that many annoying ads, and it’s cleaner.

That’s why Lina quite liked using this software; most importantly, she has a father who is a mercenary.

[Stories from the Prisoner of War Camp]

?

The fleeting name prompted Lina to halt her switching command.

Prisoner of war camp?

What’s this?

[Episode One: Anglo-French Allied Army Enters Cuba, Gather at the Prisoner of War Camp in Justice]

The scene began with a brief background narration alongside intense combat footage from both sides, all edited from previous Super Earth live streams.

[In the year 2076, Horizon Corporation was ordered to fight against the Havana Drug Trafficking Group. Wherever our troops went, drug dealers fled in panic. However, the Havana Drug Trafficking Group didn’t intend to idly sit and await their doom, spending a considerable amount to hire two elite squads from Europe for reinforcement. The two armies collided, resulting in heavy casualties.]

[This is one of the real fascinating incidents that occurred within the prisoner of war camp managed by Horizon Corporation.]

The narration ended and moved into the main feature.

"Walk, faster, settle down."

The opening scene featured the French war prisoners of the Connor Squad jumping off the vehicle, being pressed into the prisoner of war camp by soldiers.

They even thoughtfully labeled actor names and ranks for them.

[Connor Vaughns, Black Forest Mercenaries Captain]

Poof!

Lina jumped in shock watching that person on the screen.

She frantically got out of bed and rushed downstairs, stepping on the chipboard staircase with creaks as if it would collapse at any moment.

"Mom! I saw Dad!"

The woman cooking in the kitchen froze in surprise.

"What nonsense are you talking about? Your father is in Cuba right now."

"Really! Look!"

Lina sent the video code to the woman.

"Hmph."

A dusty-faced Connor defiantly pushed away the soldiers’ hands, strutting into the prisoner of war camp.

The next scene shifted to Cuban war prisoners pointing and mocking the batch of European war prisoners.

"Haha, these Europeans aren’t all that impressive. They got captured just like us."

"I thought they were unstoppable, boasting, riding on our heads all the time."

The woman paled in shock, her face turned white in an instant, and she swooned, saved from falling only by Lina’s quick reflexes.

There were comments floating past.

[Is this a prisoner of war camp? Why isn’t there a single building, only tents? The props are so basic. @Black Forest Company, someone’s spreading false rumors, shouldn’t you address it?]

But as if anticipating the comments, the Shanxi man, managing the camp, picked up a phone in the scene, saying:

"Why were so many prisoners captured? I just built this camp; there aren’t enough beds for everyone."

"Could you frontline folks fight more slowly? There’s almost no room left."

A voice from across the phone responded.

"That’s easy; let them build the camp themselves. We have remaining manpower, right? It’s decided then. Another batch of British prisoners is arriving tomorrow."

As expected, a flood of Europeans lost their composure after watching this scene.

What do you mean you didn’t expect so many prisoners?

Black Forest!
