Pirate: Crew of Desire and Bonds
Chapter 243: Samu'dra Whereabout (2)
Just then—
Samu’dra suddenly shifted her weight forward, swinging her greatsword in a powerful horizontal slash.
Garrick didn’t try to block it head-on.
Instead, he retreated half a step, letting the massive blade sweep past him before quickly closing the distance.
Samu’dra’s eyes widened slightly.
Before she could bring her slender sword around to cover the opening, Garrick turned his wrist and struck the flat of her greatsword with the side of his own blade.
Clang!
The impact knocked her weapon off course, leaving her upper body exposed for a brief moment.
Garrick immediately stepped inside her reach, using his smaller frame to his advantage.
He planted one foot firmly against the ground, then twisted his body and drove his shoulder into her side.
BANG!
Despite looking smaller, Garrick managed to make the giant Samu’dra stagger.
Her enormous body made her difficult to knock over, but the sudden shift in her balance was enough to ruin her stance.
Garrick didn’t waste the opportunity.
He hooked his sword beneath the guard of her slender blade and flicked his wrist, forcing it out of her grip.
The weapon spun through the air before clattering onto the floor.
By the time Samu’dra recovered, Garrick’s sword was already resting against her neck.
“That’s enough.”
Samu’dra remained still for a moment before lowering her greatsword.
“…I… lost… again.”
Her tone was calm, though the slight tightening of her grip suggested that she wasn’t particularly unhappy with the result.
Garrick withdrew his sword and took a step back with a smile.
“You’ve improved since our last match,” he said. “Your attacks are stronger, and you’re getting better at using your body to control the distance. But you’re still relying too much on your reach.”
He gestured toward the slender sword lying on the ground.
“You have two weapons, yet you often use one to attack while keeping the other ready to defend. Against an opponent who understands your rhythm, that makes your next move predictable.”
Samu’dra glanced at her discarded weapon before looking back at him.
“Then… how… should… I use… them?”
“Don’t think of them as two separate weapons. Make your opponent worry about both at once.”
Garrick demonstrated with a few simple movements, showing how a feint with one blade could create an opening for the other.
Samu’dra watched closely, her eyes following every movement.
Jake, meanwhile, smiled wryly at the sight.
Despite Garrick making it sound easy, he knew firsthand how hard it was to keep up with Samu’dra.
He had expected Samu’dra’s enormous physique and unusual fighting style to give her a considerable advantage.
Yet Garrick had dismantled her offense with nothing more than precise timing and efficient movements.
‘Well, I suppose experience really does make a difference.’
Jake smiled faintly.
It seemed Samu’dra still had plenty to learn… and so did he.
Judging by the way she was carefully studying Garrick’s demonstration, she had no intention of stopping anytime soon.

After spending some more time demonstrating the basic techniques, Garrick finally lowered his sword and let out a tired sigh.
“That’s enough for today. Practice what I’ve taught you before trying to learn anything more complicated. If you can’t master the basics, even the most advanced techniques won’t help you much.”
Samu’dra nodded solemnly.
“Understood…”
Garrick put his sword on his shoulder and chuckled.
Honestly, he had never imagined that he would one day find himself teaching a Naga how to wield a sword.
Not only that, but this particular Naga was an absolute giant.
Standing beside her, he sometimes felt as though he were teaching a young dragon how to use a pair of chopsticks.
Still, he had to admit that she was a surprisingly good student.
Despite her intimidating appearance, Samu’dra listened carefully to every instruction.
She didn’t argue when he pointed out her mistakes, nor did she stubbornly insist on doing things her own way.
Whenever he demonstrated a technique, she would try to imitate it immediately, repeating the movement until she understood where she had gone wrong.
That alone made her easier to teach than many experienced warriors he’d encountered.
But what impressed Garrick the most was her talent.
Her physique was clearly unusual.
With those powerful arms and enormous body, she possessed strength that most ordinary warriors could only dream of.
Yet she wasn’t merely relying on brute force.
Her coordination was excellent, and her strange movement allowed her to shift her center of gravity in ways that human swordsmen couldn’t easily replicate.
Even when she made mistakes, she adapted quickly.
After just a few demonstrations, she had already begun adjusting her footwork and the angles of her attacks.
She still had a long way to go, but the speed at which she absorbed new techniques was undeniable.
‘What a monster…’
Garrick couldn’t help thinking.
And he didn’t mean that as an insult.
If Samu’dra received proper training and accumulated enough combat experience, her potential would be frightening.
Her strength was already impressive, and once she learned to make full use of her unusual physique, even experienced warriors might struggle against her.
Of course, talent alone wasn’t everything in this world.
Still, even those with more powerful Classes might find themselves at a disadvantage when fighting her.
Just then, a familiar voice snapped Garrick out of his thoughts.
“Oh, Samu’dra. If someone takes the time to teach you something or gives you something valuable, you should remember to thank that person properly. Don’t take their kindness for granted.”
Garrick turned and smiled as he saw Jake walking over.
Hearing Jake’s words, Samu’dra paused before nodding solemnly.
She turned toward Garrick and lowered her head slightly.
“Thank you… for teaching me.”
Garrick waved his hand dismissively.
“Don’t mention it. I was free, that’s all. Besides, I noticed you had so many flaws in your swordsmanship that I couldn’t bear to keep watching.”
“Still, you’ve got potential. You learn quickly, and your physique gives you plenty of advantages. As long as you keep practicing the basics, you’ll improve a lot.”
He paused before adding, “Just don’t get carried away by your strength. Against a skilled opponent, one careless movement is all it takes to lose.”
Samu’dra nodded seriously, taking his advice to heart.
