Chapter 2288 - 95: Legends of the Northern Territory (Part 2)

  • Next Chapter

After Edwin's death, his two sons inherited his two lands, the elder son, Evens Clevo, inherited the prosperous northern territory of Tarun, while the younger son continued to lead the knights in the harsh lands fighting against the Ancient Tower People.

There aren't many historical records about this younger son, not even his name is mentioned. He left several offspring, and scholars suspect that one of them was the prototype for the legend of the Ancient Monarch Hunter. This incident happened around the same time, due to a betrayal by close kin, that ancient undead monarch still haunts this frozen land today.

"As for the descendants of the elder son, Evens, they thrived in Tarun, becoming the backbone of the Clevo Family. It is rumored that the brave young man liked to paint a white raven on his shield, hence this symbol became the emblem of the Clevo Family."

Hilveld's bright gaze eyed the emblem on the metal fragment, recounting this piece of history.

"This part of history lasted for nearly three hundred years, closely following the end of the Giant War. Until Eisen IV retracted the nobles' power and established the Praetor system. From then on, Colin Ishurian had no noble appointed to guard the kingdom's borders, only praetors loyal to His Majesty."

"And what about the Clevo Family?" Fang Hong asked somewhat foolishly, looking at the fragment of armor placed on the table in the inn's room.

Hilveld couldn't help but laugh, answering: "In any era, people never easily give up the power in their hands. Thus, just like the Southern Region today, the nobles raised their rebellious flags at that time, but they failed. Eisen IV only pardoned a portion of them, and the Clevo Family was not among them."

Listening to this description, Fang Hong stared at the emblem, momentarily lost in thought. This might be just a brief note in the history books, but in that era, heads rolled and blood flowed, a once-prominent family in history thus vanished.

The gray-white raven once favored by a king became prominent, rising from obscurity to a position of extreme prominence, yet from the same royal authority, it disintegrated and disappeared from people's memories.

"The Clevo Family's territory was in the vicinity of today's Gula Port," Hilveld continued, "or it might be in Grey Owl Town, changes occurred here after the power shift, with both Gula Port and Charter City being founded afterwards—"

"So this armor could be left by the last member of the Clevo Family?"

Fang Hong asked while recalling the combat under the secret passage; it was no easy challenge. Had that armor not misjudged the Dark Ritual's power, who knows what the outcome would have been.

The aura of that armor left a deep impression, and even though it was just an armor, how formidable must its original owner have been?

Was that the last member of the Clevo Family? What kind of person was he in life, capable of leaving behind such an armor, he must have been extraordinary, perhaps even legendary. Sadly, history buried everything, and together with this family, they vanished without a trace.

Hilveld shook her head: "I don't know, not much rumor about this family circulates. However, some tales say that some members escaped the disastrous event, some fled to the Ancient Tower, some to the Southern Region. But none of that matters, as those people ultimately hid their names and vanished into history."

Fang Hong looked at the raven on the emblem and thought of the Crow's Claw Sanctuary, might there be any connection?

But after more than a day of investigation, he actually figured out that those believers of the Crow's Claw Sanctuary did not originate locally; they originally came from the Ancient Tower—in that frigid land, there are many legends about the Lord of Storm Adrian.

In every aspect, these Outsiders are unlikely to be related to the history of over three hundred years ago, and their rise seems to contain an element of chance.

Moreover, if these people were truly related to the Clevo Family, they would closely monitor the monastery, not easily allowing the armor to fall into his hands.

Fang Hong rubbed his slightly tense forehead, he was just investigating the Shadow People, yet encountered such a bizarre event. The affair underneath the secret passage inevitably reminded him of Miss Atira and Sophie encountering those two armors in Dolifen and Dulun.

The first was Evinengreen, a close friend of the Heroic Shuyue, whose mind was corroded by wanderers, his soul disappeared without a trace, leaving only an empty armor.

As for the latter, whether or not it was the Duke Phoenix's eldest son is still unknown, as its original owner is still around without any abnormal behavior, and what's more, he recently defeated the rebels in the Southern Region, highly esteemed by the Prime Minister.

As for this third armor, its emblem as Hilveld said is from the long-vanished Clevo Family. The identities of the owners of these three armors are vastly different, and he couldn't think of any connection at the moment.

Unable to think it through, Fang Hong rose from his seat, looking out through the slightly frosted glass window, the streets were under strict lockdown—more stringent than when they left Grey Owl Town.
