Pillar of Yita
Chapter 2107 - 40: Heart of Chongshan VII_2
That was Big Cat People.
He finally seized the opportunity, leaping down from the cliff, the strong wind blowing his long mane wildly.
Grasping the Holy Sword in reverse with one hand, his narrowed silver-gray eyes reflected an increasingly large target. Using the fierce momentum of descent, he thrust the sword downward, piercing into the thick crystal layers.
In the darkness, a flash of silver light disappeared instantly, the sword blade sunk up to the hilt, and the next moment Reed heavily landed on the monster's back. The giant construct sank downward and emitted an angry scream.
Its six claws anchored to the ground, shaking its upper body forcefully, attempting to throw off the intruder from its back. But the Lion Paladin extended his claws, firmly fixing them in the gaps between its back armor, unwavering despite its violent shaking.
However, the opponent's movements were not hindered at all, making Reed realize that his strike had not hit its vital point. As they fashionably say, either the monster's Life Points were too high, or his strike hadn't even penetrated its crystal armor.
Unfortunately, he couldn't see the damage numbers Ade and the others often mentioned, nor could he review the combat log. He could only seek help from Parker's Communication Crystal pinned to his collar:
"What's the situation with this strike?"
"Gray damage number, 372, Mr. Reed." Came the voice of Miss Natural Historian in response.
Gray represents armor damage, suggesting this sword's damage was even lower than the attack of the Foe Slayer in his hand, not to mention his strength multiplier and the potential energy from falling from such a height.
This only indicates that the opponent's armor hardness was also shockingly high.
He changed tactics, drawing the Holy Sword from its back, bringing forth a slice of crystal shards from the crystal layers, and then swung a round cut toward its eye stalk.
The sword blade sheared off a large portion of crystal, along with one of the opponent's eyes.
The latter's vision instantly went black halfway.
The giant crab finally sensed the threat, tilting its body forcefully and crashing sideways into the cliff. Reed immediately let go of the claws, rolling off from above. Just as he'd expected, the Construct Giant Crab slammed heavily into the cliff, cracks appeared on the rock layers, sand and stones cascaded down.
Big Cat People landed and rolled through beneath it. The giant crab reacted, dropping sharp claws one after another, but each was a step behind Reed. The Lion Paladin's agile movements were more akin to a sword dancer than a knight, and it lunged forward to evade the last descending claw.
Then it turned back to strike, the chilling sword blade slicing cleanly across its claw.
"Goddess Above!"
Reed roared.
Crystal emitted a cracking sound, the huge entity's body suddenly tilted, lost balance and crashed against the rock layers again.
This dizzying exchange nearly left the people of Holy White Stone Guild dumbfounded.
Where did this Big Cat emerge from? In an instant, it had subdued the giant crab that was giving them a headache, and before they knew it, the monster had crashed into the cliff.
Alice's gaze became even more incredulous, her mouth slightly agape.
But although the Construct Giant Crab fell, it hadn't lost its combat capability, as it still had five claws capable of regaining balance.
It turned slowly and raised a claw to sweep towards Reed. The Big Cat People lowered their body, letting the claw pass over their head, the giant claw crushed a sharp rock into pieces.
No need for Gita's reminder, Reed also realized that the opponent's agility wasn't high, according to Ade and the others — its Evasion and Balance hadn't decreased significantly.
However, the fragments of the shattered rock didn't fall but suspended mid-air. An array lit up on the giant crab's claw, and in the next instant, sharp stone shards shot towards him like a bladed storm.
"Watch out!"
He heard a young girl's voice cautioning him, somewhat familiar, but Reed dared not be distracted, raising the Holy Sword to deflect these shards with a clang.
However, the force within each shard was immense, and he struggled to dissolve it, forced to retreat while blocking, soon drawing himself out of close combat range with the giant crab.
After being forced away, the opponent immediately emitted a low-frequency screech, as a glow of dark blue light flickered in the darkness. Those were the crystal henchmen gathering around.
As the logs described, high-ranking Crystalysis Beasts can command the lower-ranked ones.
Nevertheless, Reed extended his left claw, a golden light pattern appeared, pushing away several crystal henchmen gathering close.
At this moment, Amatoran finally snapped out of his daze, shouting: "Rangers, assist him!"
The ranger squad captain had long perished, and now he was personally commanding.
The rangers also realized this opportunity, no longer hesitating, opened the special arrow bags, drew bows and arrows, shooting a rain of arrows in that direction.
The Mithril Conical Arrows with their shield-piercing capability were exceedingly expensive, yet had the same effect against these monsters' crystal armor. The rain of arrows falling from above almost brought about a Rain of Death.
The fractured crystal henchmen collapsed to the ground.
Unfortunately, such an opportunity was once in a lifetime, for otherwise they would only need to equip everyone with dozens of Mithril Arrows like some rich guilds, effectively curbing these monsters' assault.
Nonetheless, Big Cat People still seized the opportunity.
Turning swiftly to attack the giant specter—
The opponent's level was high, purely in terms of strength, even overpowering him slightly, yet its clumsy movements restricted its prowess, and certainly his preemptive strike in severing one of its claws was vital.
