388 In-Dependence.
After some time, Gregory pushed back from Leona and allowed her to breathe properly again. He shook his head as he realized how foolish the chosen down here were. They don’t even know who they’re taking that star from and they are just collecting it while thinking there won’t be any repercussions. Gregory might not have been here for very long, but there was one thing that was obvious to Gregory. Only a Celestial can give a star to the chosen. Having an extra star is like having an extra system in your body that would help you level up even faster. That was the reason why those Alcatraz group members were able to make it all the way to floor sixty even though they were low-level white stars. They had almost twice the power as a regular white star and when they all worked together it became possible for them to fight some of the stronger monsters.
Gregory understood why the chosen down here were so desperate for power. Gregory would also be desperate for power if he was in the dark about everything happening around him, but Gregory couldn’t allow the chosen to keep receiving stars from that celestial. Gregory doesn’t trust a single Celestial after finding out that the temple was just one great joke for the celestials. No matter how much it seems like they’re trying to help, I know that this is only going to backfire in the end.
“You’ll take me to the man that gave you that star immediately. I don’t care what reason you have for what you did, but you really should have known better. We aren’t just playing around on the top floors, we’re also fighting and trying to get higher. Don’t think for a second that we have it easy just because we’re stronger. Now tell me how many people have received extra stars,”
Leona huffed and turned away in annoyance at his words. She didn’t want to believe him at all and so she decided to just ignore his logic. So what if they have it a little hard up there? The life of the chosen down is still a lot more dangerous than theirs.
“I don’t know the exact number of people that received the stars. Maybe half a million or so. But I know that everyone in the Trinata and Rivera guilds already got the stars. There is a ritual for getting the stars every fortnight so the next one should be tonight,”
Gregory slapped his forehead in annoyance! These fucking idiots! Half a million idiots! They went out receiving stars when they don’t even know what the stars are supposed to do! What if it was some sort of skill that allows the celestial to kill them? Or what if it was a way of tracking them to prevent them from ever escaping in case there was an invasion? Can’t they fucking think!? Why would the people that trapped us in the temple suddenly start giving us stars without asking for anything in return!?
The chosen in the temple were too desperate for power and so they didn’t even think much about the source of the power they were receiving from the celestials! The chosen on the lower floors didn’t know the Celestials like those on the higher floors and so the chosen on the lower floors trusted the celestials easier! The chosen on higher floors knew that it was a terrible idea to trust a celestial because the Celestials will never do anything that will benefit the chosen and the celestials will only try to do things that benefit themselves! But those down here have never even interacted with a celestial before so nothing was stopping them from trusting anyone that promises them power!
Gregory shook his head. He couldn’t just blame them for everything. Those down here don’t know how bad the celestials are so they wouldn’t suspect anything. In a way, it might be our fault instead. Those on the upper floor never bothered to tell those down here about how bad the Celestials are. We just assumed that they were too weak to make much of a difference at all.
Gregory grabbed Leona’s arm and directed her out of the room. He didn’t have time to waste on regret or anything like that. Gregory walked out of the inner house with Leona and he stopped when he suddenly received a call from the Shadow Hunter that Han put in his shadow a long time ago.
[Hey, kid. I heard you’ve started branching out on your own already.]
Hold on, isn’t that Han!? Gregory felt intense joy once he heard Han’s voice through the shadow hunter! Hearing Han’s voice means that Han is already back home from the upper floors!
“Han!? I didn’t think you would come back anytime soon! Where are you? Are you close!?”
Gregory asked Han where he was in excitement and Gregory looked around curiously to see if Han was anywhere close by but Han answered in the negative. He told Gregory that he was on the top floors, in the restaurant. Gregory heard Lily’s loud voice screaming at Dyana in the background. They were fighting over meat, again. Gregory just rolled his eyes at them.
Han chuckled as he heard Gregory grumble about how childish Lily was and Lily shouted out an annoyed ‘I’m not childish!!’ in return! Gregory just grumbled again and Han grinned wider. Han asked Gregory what he was up to and Gregory looked toward Leona with an annoyed glare.
“Nothing much, I’m just trying to clean up a mess on these lower floors. I’ll tell you about it once I get back to the restaurant in a few days,”
Han hummed in surprise as he realized that Esteroth was right! Gregory really wanted to solve this case on his own! Gregory was so determined to solve this by himself that he was making sure not to even ask for help. If Gregory wanted help then Gregory would have said something more about the case but he wasn’t even telling Han what the case was about so that means Gregory really wanted to do this alone! It might not be a bad idea to just allow him to do this on his own. It’s not like anything down there can harm him!
Han knew that Gregory could handle anything that he comes across on the lower floors so Han decided to allow Gregory to handle it on his own. It would be a good learning process for Gregory anyway. Han was already worried about Gregory being too antisocial so Han was now glad that Gregory was outgoing enough to handle people and issues on his own! Gregory even took Rau with him so Rau will be able to watch his back if there are ever any problems!
[Alright, kid. I’ll leave it to you. If you need any help just give me a call and I’ll come help out. I’m really not busy at all and the girls don’t even need me in the restaurant.]
Gregory chuckled a little and he thanked Han before they cut the call! Gregory was glad that Han realized that he didn’t want help in the mission. Gregory didn’t want to say anything about not wanting help because he thought it would seem too arrogant to say that to someone like Han, but Han realized it on his own so Gregory didn’t have to say anything.
Gregory wanted to learn how to handle situations on his own without people holding his hand and that is why he decided that he won’t ask for help at all! Gregory knows that he has been depending on others a lot ever since he was saved from his kingdom of Magicus. Gregory has been following Han since he left Magicus, and once Han left the temple, Gregory was under the care of Esteroth. Its time for me to do something on my own for once. I’ll ask Han for help if I ever need it.
