Picking Up a Gorgeous CEO for a Wife
Chapter 2319: Pork Belly or Tofu?
Lin Haixin’s words left Xiang Weiwei’s mind scrambled, as she stared at Shen Qian in shock, "Qianqian, you’ve kept your secret well! We’ve known each other so long, yet you never told me you’re the direct descendant of the Huanhai Shen Family!"
Shen Qian gave a wry smile, "Weiwei, I only found out about my identity recently."
"Is that so?" Xiang Weiwei nodded, signaling that she understood.
As they spoke, Chef Feng personally brought in the prepared vegetarian dish and said respectfully, "Master Qin, please test the dish to see if I have made any progress."
Seeing the solemn expression on Feng Jingkun’s face, Qin Yu smiled slightly, "Let me guess, is the triennial World Ghost Chef Competition about to begin?"
"Yes! I heard that this time the competition will rank chefs on the Chef God List, and securing a place there would mean achieving great success!"
"Well then, I’ll play the role of judge again." Qin Yu smiled and licked his lips, it seemed his good fortune was coming! Being one of the pickiest tasters in the world, his presence as a judge in the World Ghost Chef Competition was indispensable.
"Test the dish? The Ghost Chef Competition? Brother-in-law, what are you talking about? I don’t understand a thing," Xiang Weiwei said, utterly confused.
"Let’s talk about this later. I’ll test the dish first," Qin Yu methodically adjusted the utensils in front of him.
If it were just a typical meal, Qin Yu wouldn’t care much, but since it was a tasting, he needed to take it seriously, striving for perfection in every aspect.
Once Qin Yu got serious, his image and temperament changed instantly!
It seemed Qin Yu transformed from a clueless man into the most gentlemanly of nobles in a mere moment!
Qin Yu sat up straight, his arms lifted at a certain angle, and like magic conjured a pair of white gloves from the Purple Micro Star Ring, gracefully putting them on.
"Brother-in-law, do you need to be so dramatic? It’s just a meal," Xiang Weiwei pouted as she saw Qin Yu’s solemn demeanor.
Feng Jingkun spoke seriously, "Miss Xiang, Master Qin is not merely eating; he’s testing the dish."
"Testing the dish? How is that different from eating?"
"There is a difference, of course. A normal person’s tongue has about two hundred taste buds, but Master Qin’s tongue has over a thousand, allowing him to discern even the most subtle changes in flavor.
Master Qin’s taste buds are invaluable! Having Master Qin taste a dish is an honor for me! Please, do not interrupt him casually." Feng Jingkun’s tone was very stern.
Feng Jingkun’s words made Xiang Weiwei more confused, leaving her utterly lost.
Qin Yu picked up his chopsticks, dipped them into the sauce of the vegetarian braised pork in front of him and took a small sip.
Qin Yu closed his eyes. His thousand-plus taste buds worked swiftly, continuously analyzing the flavors, while Feng Jingkun stood nervously in front of Qin Yu, like a grade-schooler awaiting his teacher’s instructions.
Qin Yu nodded slightly and said indifferently, "The basics haven’t improved. You barely make the grade! However, there is progress in the sauce mixing technique, perhaps due to advancements in your Cultivation.
Additionally, the nutritional loss estimated around three percent is better than the last time’s five percent, so I guess that just passes.
Overall, there is some improvement, but reaching the top ten in the Ghost Chef Competition will still be challenging."
"Thank you for your guidance, Master Qin." Even though the outcome announced by Qin Yu wasn’t wholly satisfying, Feng Jingkun still bowed earnestly.
Qin Yu smiled, "Elder Feng, you’ve fallen into a trap. Indeed, your Cultivation has improved! However, you should not force Cultivation into every aspect of cooking. Sometimes, returning to the basics and simplicity is the highest realm of culinary art."
Return to simplicity? Simplicity? Feng Jingkun’s pupils contracted rapidly. Yes, he had fallen into a misconception. Ever since he became a Godly Chef, he always tried to incorporate his Cultivation into his cooking!
This led him to abandon some of his strengths! If this continued, decades of culinary skills could become deformed!
Feng Jingkun bowed deeply, "Thank you for the reminder, Master Qin! Otherwise, I’d have almost made a big mistake."
Shen Qian had witnessed scenes of Qin Yu rejecting dishes before, and seeing the scene unfold before her was nothing out of the ordinary. Su Ziyan had also dined at Feng’s Vegetarian Hall multiple times, so she was immune to Feng Jingkun’s attitude.
But Xiang Weiwei had never experienced this, so she muttered disappointedly, "What’s all this fuss about? Cousin, you guys hype up Chef Feng so much, but I feel like Chef Feng is just so-so?"
After speaking, Xiang Weiwei picked up a piece of the braised pork made from rice and tofu with her chopsticks.
The moment it entered her mouth, Xiang Weiwei’s eyes widened. Oh my gosh! Are you sure this is vegetarian? Ignoring her tingling tongue, she began chewing ferociously!
While chewing, she mumbled unclearly, "Delicious! It’s so delicious! Cousin, I want to eat at Feng’s Vegetarian Hall every day... Huh? Cousin, didn’t you say Feng’s Vegetarian Hall serves vegetarian food? This is braised pork, you know? I need to keep my figure! Cousin, it’s all your fault!"
Xiang Weiwei pitifully picked up another piece of braised pork, drooling yet afraid to eat for fear of gaining weight.
"Weiwei, this is vegetarian food. What you’re eating, the braised pork, is made from rice and tofu," Su Ziyan explained and then picked up a piece of the vegetarian braised pork, devouring it heartily.
"Rice and tofu? Cousin, I didn’t study much, don’t trick me! The texture, the color, it’s definitely premium pork belly!" Xiang Weiwei kept shaking her head, utterly disbelieving Su Ziyan’s words.
