Chapter 2630: Chapter 2631: Return to Tianyun (197)

Manhe and Manjuan turned pale the moment they saw the Silver needle blacken, completely stunned, with only two words in their hearts: they were finished.

Tao Chengyin had never even considered that these two things might be poisoned; when he saw the Silver needle turn black, he was stunned as well.

Su Xing and Taoming Ye both felt a surge of delight when they saw the Silver needle turn black.

Hong Ye was also very pleased, but she forced her joy down and immediately shouted at Manhe and Manjuan, "You bold girls, how dare you poison the Princess! Someone come, tie them up!"

Manhe and Manjuan were so frightened they couldn’t even cry, with only one thought in their hearts: they were finished... finished...

Tao Chengyin had already come back to his senses and, enraged, barked, "Speak, who ordered you to administer this poison?!"

Manhe and Manjuan reacted at once and hurriedly played dumb, saying, "Master, we’re being wronged, this poison wasn’t given by us, we don’t even know who did it."

Su Xing said with relief, "Luckily, Father, you didn’t eat it. If you had, you might already be dead."

Tao Chengyin grew even more furious, and kneeling down, said, "The Princess has been repeatedly attacked in my humble home; I cannot shirk the blame."

Su Xing and Taoming Ye hurried to help Tao Chengyin up.

Su Xing said, "Father, this isn’t your fault. If someone wants to harm me and Míngyè, they’ll keep thinking of ways to do it; how could a civil official like you possibly stop them all?"

Once she finished speaking to Tao Chengyin, Su Xing ordered the guard, "Arrest everyone who previously handled this medicine and the mung bean cakes, and seal the residence to search their rooms. See if there’s anything suspicious. I want to see exactly who is trying to kill this Princess and the Prince Consort."

"Yes, Princess!" The guards immediately moved out and went to seize Mrs. Cao and the others.

When Tao Chengyin saw Mrs. Cao being arrested, he did not plead for her. The innocent will clear themselves. The medicine and the mung bean cakes had been sent by Mrs. Cao; if she hadn’t poisoned them, once things were clarified, she would naturally be released.

But if this was Mrs. Cao’s doing, then she deserved it!

Still, she was his principal wife after all; seeing her arrested, Tao Chengyin felt wretched inside.

"Master, Master, I’m innocent, Master!" Mrs. Cao kept crying her grievance as she was taken away. She had never imagined the Silver needle would reveal poison. Clearly everything had been fine before, the Silver needle hadn’t shown anything; how could it suddenly detect poison today? "Master, someone must be framing me! They must be!"

Tao Chengyin still couldn’t help speaking up, "If someone is framing you, once the investigation is clear, your name will naturally be cleared."

Seeing Tao Chengyin so indifferent, Mrs. Cao could only turn to Su Xing and Taoming Ye and say, "Princess, Prince Consort, I’m truly being wronged, truly wronged."

Su Xing feigned a helpless expression. "Mother, these mung bean cakes and the medicine all came from your quarters. Now that the matter hasn’t been clarified, you can’t wash your hands of it. I’m only having you arrested as well because I need to find the real culprit. Mother, don’t blame me."

As soon as Su Xing finished speaking, a guard rushed in, holding a small paper packet in both hands and saying, "There was nothing unusual in the other rooms, only in the minister’s lady’s room we found this packet. Inside is a white powder, but this subordinate can’t tell what kind of powder it is, so I brought it for the Princess to see."

Su Xing immediately called, "Hong Ye!"

Hong Ye hurried forward, wiped the Silver needle with a slice of ginger, then placed it into the powder. The Silver needle instantly turned black, to the same degree as before. Hong Ye immediately said, "Princess, this should be the poison!"
