Chapter 852:The Girl’s Worries
Chapter 852: 852:The Girl’s Worries
Ethan suddenly felt as if his consciousness had become weightless. His soul passed through his physical body and projected itself into the outer world.
His eyes opened.
But his physical eyes had never moved.
Instead, he was seeing through his projected soul.
Ethan’s expression changed slightly. He could see the inside of the carriage around him.
He could see the wooden walls, the seats and even the horses pulling the carriage outside.
His perception continued spreading.
The road, the trees and distant hills.Everything appeared clearly within his range.
Gu Cheng, who sat cross-legged at the side, felt the subtle change in the surroundings. He opened his eyes and immediately used his Divine Sense.
His Divine Sense swept through the carriage and soon saw Ethan’s soul projection.
A smile appeared on his face.
"It seems you have some gain?"
Ethan’s projected soul turned toward him and nodded.
"Certainly, and it is all thanks to Brother Gu Cheng!"
Gu Cheng smiled and nodded.
Ethan didn’t waste any more time.
His soul flew out of the carriage.
The feeling was completely different from moving his physical body. There was no weight and no resistance. He could move wherever he wanted as long as he remained within the range of his soul projection.
He passed through the carriage and floated outside.
The world around him suddenly became much clearer.
He could see the road stretching into the distance, the grass moving with the wind and the horses pulling the carriages. He could even see the servants riding alongside them and the faint expressions on their faces.
Ethan continued moving.
His soul passed through another carriage.
Inside, he saw the two women sitting quietly.
Both of them had stoic expressions.
Maria was looking outside through the carriage window. Her eyes carried a trace of uncertainty as she watched the passing scenery.
"I wonder what our lives will be like from now on."
She lowered her gaze slightly before continuing.
"I don’t even know if he trusts us or not. I suppose we will be getting the cold shoulder."
Alvera opened her eyes and spoke coldly.
"Why does it matter if he gives us the cold shoulder or not?"
Her voice remained calm and emotionless.
"We just need to do what we are here for. Even if we are decorative pieces as someone entrusted by the Empress, I don’t think he would throw us."
Maria looked at Alvera with a complicated expression.
"How naive?"
Alvera frowned slightly.
"You don’t know the coldness of the nobles. They are cold-blooded and prideful people who don’t even eye those beneath them as people."
Maria’s expression became slightly bitter.
"They treat us with contempt like we are plagued and untouchable."
Alvera remained silent.
She knew Maria wasn’t completely wrong.
Both of them had spent enough time among nobles to understand how easily people could be treated as objects when they had no status.
Neither woman noticed the faint figure of Ethan’s soul standing nearby.
Ethan listened quietly.
His expression slowly became thoughtful as he heard their conversation.
’So they don’t even know what will happen to them after coming under me.’
He had initially thought that the two women had come here simply because of Ophelia’s arrangement.
But now he realized that they had their own worries.
Ethan’s soul floated quietly beside them for a while before he moved away.
Ethan heard their conversation and smiled.
"It seems I need to pay more attention to them."
With that, he pulled back and went up. With a look, he could oversee the vast expanse of space all around him. It wasn’t as good as Divine Sense, but it was still better than having to move his body whenever he wanted to see something.
Ethan looked around with interest.
His soul projection moved through the surroundings while he carefully observed everything. The ability still felt strange to him. He had never imagined that he would one day be able to leave his physical body and move around as a soul.
’If I can project my soul, then can I use it to attack?’
The thought immediately made him curious.
Ethan stopped and began experimenting with his soul power. He tried to gather his mental strength and concentrate it in one place. He then tried to strike outward with it.
However, he was unable to properly control his power.
The moment he released it, a strange interference spread through the surrounding area.
Several beasts nearby suddenly stopped moving.
Their bodies trembled, and they began to wail and shriek in pain and anguish. Their cries echoed through the surrounding area as they desperately tried to escape from the strange pressure.
The guards travelling with the carriages were taken aback.
They immediately looked around with wary expressions.
"What happened?"
"I don’t know!"
"Why are the beasts suddenly acting like this?"
The guards became quite afraid as they looked around. They couldn’t see anything unusual, but the strange pressure made their bodies tense.
For a moment, some of them even wondered if there was a ghost nearby.
Thankfully, it wasn’t night, or they might have pissed themselves in fear.
Ethan also noticed the reaction and quickly stopped his experiment.
The strange interference disappeared, and the beasts slowly calmed down.
Ethan frowned as he thought about what had happened.
’I should experiment to control the output so that I won’t cause more trouble, but from this I can infer that I can’t harm anyone physically. However...’
His eyes narrowed slightly.
’I can cause mental damage to them.’
He looked toward the beasts that were still recovering from the earlier pain.
Maybe he could do more, but at present, that was the best he could do.
The ability was still incomplete, and Ethan had only just discovered it. He needed more time to understand how his soul power worked before trying anything more dangerous.
’Still, this is quite useful.’
Ethan slowly pulled his soul projection back.
His consciousness moved toward his physical body and gradually assimilated into it.
The strange feeling of weightlessness disappeared, and the familiar sensation of his physical body returned.
Ethan opened his eyes.
For a moment, he remained silent before a smile appeared on his face.
"The gains are quite substantial."
He leaned back against the carriage seat and looked outside.
This journey might have been long and troublesome, but at least he had managed to gain something useful along the way.
