Chapter 822: 822: Mountain Of Wealth

The two continued walking until they finally reached the main vault.

The massive stone door was covered in complicated magical patterns. Several layers of protective formations were carved into the walls around it. Even the floor beneath their feet contained faint magical lines that connected to the door.

Pentos stopped in front of it.

"This is the main vault. Even the Elders don’t have the authority to open it."

Rina looked around carefully. She could feel several different magical powers surrounding the entrance.

Pentos stepped forward and placed his palm against the stone door.

A faint light appeared beneath his hand.

The formation recognized his bloodline.

A sharp magical pulse spread through the entire chamber and several runes lit up one after another. The magic didn’t simply check his blood. It also checked his soul and the mark of the family head.

Only after all the checks were completed did the formation finally accept him.

Pentos took out a small blade and cut his palm. A few drops of blood fell onto the center of the formation.

The moment his blood touched it, the entire door trembled.

This was a special ritual that could only be completed by the Head of the Ambrose Family.

The secret vault had been built this way because the Ambrose Family understood that their greatest treasures could never be allowed to fall into someone else’s hands.

If anyone tried to force the door open and even a single attack struck the chamber, the entire vault inside would be destroyed.

There was no second chance.

Pentos calmly watched as the magical formation absorbed his blood.

Then the massive stone door slowly moved.

A deep rumbling sound spread through the corridor as the door widened open.

Dense smoke immediately emerged from inside.

Rina instinctively took a step back and raised her hand in front of her face.

For a moment she thought it was dust that had been trapped inside for countless years.

But she soon realized that it wasn’t dust.

It was a dense amount of compressed mana.

The moment the mana spread around them, Rina felt a refreshing sensation enter her body. Even her breathing became easier and the slight fatigue she had been carrying disappeared.

Pentos stepped inside without hesitation.

Rina followed him.

The moment her foot crossed the entrance, her calm expression shattered slightly.

Her eyes widened as she stared into the vault.

The amount of mana inside was simply beyond what she had expected. The air itself seemed to be filled with power and every breath she took felt as if she was absorbing pure energy.

Rina slowly lowered her hand and stared ahead only to freeze in disbelief.

"What the hell is this?"

What reflected in her sight was a huge and spacious chamber that seemed to span for several kilometers.

Was this an underground chamber?

Hell, this was as big as a city.

Pentos, who saw the huge place, almost collapsed. He had expected the vault to be huge, but this was beyond anything he had imagined. Golden bricks were lined up all around the chamber, forming endless rows that stretched so far that he couldn’t even see the end in sight. The golden glow from them filled the entire chamber and made the surroundings look almost unreal.

"So much money... That too, gold bricks..." Pentos swallowed a mouthful.

He expected it to be huge, but this was damned huge.

Rina moved forward and grabbed one of the bricks. The moment she lifted it, she could feel its weight in her hand. Each brick was around 10 kilograms, and each gold coin contained around 5 grams of gold. So this 10 kg amount to around 2,000 gold coins.

How much was it?

It was enough for a Baron to maintain his estate for a few months.

And now the bricks were piled upon each other in countless rows.

Just how many such bricks were there?

Rina couldn’t count them. The more she looked around, the more dizzy she felt. She slowly put the brick down and took a deep breath, trying to control herself.

She looked at Pentos, who was standing there with a terrified expression.

"What should we do?"

"Queen Ophelia might soon send her people to take over and if the envoy saw such a scene."

Pentos’s voice became slightly tense as he looked around the chamber.

Rina didn’t know what to say. Even if they wanted to gulp it down, such a huge amount wouldn’t be easy to hide or move.

Rina, who knew the Blanks’ current operations, had always thought that the Blanks were now filthy rich and could take on Ambrose. But now she realized how naive she had been.

They weren’t on equal footing at all.

Despite several decades of earning, the Blanks could not even match the lifetime heritage of Ambrose.

"Just how much they looted."

Rina’s voice was low as she looked at the endless rows of gold.

It was then that Pentos spoke.

"My Lady, this might be the main one but there were many more out there in other regions."

The words struck Rina like lightning.

Yes, how could she forget that?

Ambrose had held auctions all around the Empire and had countless branches and businesses spread across different regions. There were several vaults, and each of them could contain enough wealth to shock an ordinary noble.

Rina was hit hard by the realization.

She looked around once again and suddenly noticed something strange.

"Wait a minute... They won’t be just storing money here, right?"

Pentos also realized something was wrong.

Both of them moved swiftly.

Rina and Pentos walked deeper into the huge labyrinth of the vault. The endless rows continued in every direction, and all around them they saw gold coins and gold bricks.

In a few sections, they found higher quality mana stones and rare ores which were very hard to gather. Some of them were materials that even powerful nobles would struggle to obtain.

However...

"Where are artifacts and other things?" Rina realized a crucial problem.

Gold was certainly valuable, but it couldn’t be the only thing that was stored here.

There should be artifacts, antiques, higher-grade weapons, and various treasures.

However, there was none.

The deeper they went, the more obvious it became.

Rina stopped and looked around with a frown.

"Pentos, I want you to check all around and see if there are those things out in other vaults..."

She turned towards him with a serious expression.

"See if you can find it."

Pentos nodded immediately.

"Yes..."
