Chapter 484:Playing Against Me?
Chapter 484:Playing Against Me?
Ethan remained seated calmly in his private chamber while the auction continued below.
He did not make a single move.
From the outside, it looked as if he was simply there to observe everything like a spectator.
Rathlos, on the other hand, participated in a few rounds. He bid on several items that caught his interest, but each time the price rose too quickly and too high, forcing him to give up with a slight frown.
Ethan watched everything quietly. He was waiting.
Patiently.
It was not until the twenty-second item that his expression finally changed.
The auctioneer stepped forward again with a confident smile while a new item was brought onto the stage.
“The twenty-second item is one kilogram of Zeitatie ore.”
The moment those words were spoken, a faint stir spread across the hall.
The ore placed on display shimmered faintly with a silver-blue glow. Even from a distance, one could feel the dense magical energy contained within it.
“The uses of this precious high-grade magical metal are surely clear to everyone,” the auctioneer continued smoothly.
“Whether it is used for forging epic-level magical weapons or for creating advanced magic arrays and powerful secret magical objects, it is an excellent top-grade material.”
Inside the private chamber, Ethan, who had been leaning back casually, suddenly straightened his posture.
A glimmer of light flashed in his eyes.
He wanted it.
No.
He needed it.
He could use it to forge a powerful sword, or even create a magical staff for Rina and Diana.
But he was not the only one.
That much was obvious.
“The starting price of this item is one hundred million gold coins. Each bid must not be less than ten million.”
The moment the auctioneer finished speaking, the bidding exploded.
“One hundred and fifty million!”
“One hundred and eighty million!”
“Two hundred and thirty million!”
Voices echoed across the hall one after another.
Within less than two minutes, the price had already soared to three hundred and fifty million.
Ethan did not move.
He remained calm.
Bidding now was meaningless.
He wanted to finish it in one strike.
The price continued rising, but the speed gradually slowed.
After crossing four hundred million, fewer people remained in the competition.
When the price reached four hundred and fifty million, only two bidders were left.
Ethan leaned forward slightly.
The moment had come.
Through the sound transmission array, his voice echoed clearly across the hall.
“Five hundred million gold coins.”
The sudden jump silenced the hall for a brief moment.
A direct increase of fifty million.
It clearly showed his determination.
One of the bidders immediately fell silent.
But the other was unwilling to give up.
“Five hundred and ten million.”
“Five hundred and twenty.”
“Five hundred and thirty-five,” Ethan responded calmly.
“Five hundred and forty.”
“Five hundred and sixty,” Ethan said, his tone turning slightly impatient.
The other party paused. The auctioneer looked around carefully.
“The item will be sold at five hundred and sixty million. Anyone want to bid for five hundred and seventy?”
She slowly raised her hammer.
Just as it was about to fall…
“Six hundred!”
A sudden voice erupted from another private chamber.
The entire hall reacted instantly.
“What!”
Even Ethan frowned slightly.
“Six hundred and fifty,” he said without hesitation.
“Seven hundred.”
“Seven hundred and ten.”
“Seven hundred and fifty.”
The bidding continued.
Now even Ethan felt something was off.
550 million gold coins was already costly and going extra 200 million gold coins.
That was foolish.
The item was valuable. But was it really worth this much? His brows furrowed slightly.
“I quit.”
His voice echoed calmly across the hall.
The auctioneer paused for a moment, clearly surprised by the sudden withdrawal.
Then she shook her head lightly and brought the hammer down.
“Sold.”
Ethan leaned back in his chair.Something was not right. He frowned and decided to try his suspicion.
The auction continued.More items were brought out, each more valuable than the last.
Ethan began bidding again on a few items.
“Five hundred.”
“Five hundred and fifty.”
“Six hundred.”
“Six hundred and fifty.”
But every time he made a bid.Another voice followed immediately.
Without delay and without any hesitation. And it was the same person.
“Give it to him,” Ethan said once, his tone calm but carrying a trace of coldness.
He lightly slammed his hand on the armrest.
The next item came.
Ethan tried again.
“Five hundred.”
“Five hundred and fifty.”
“Six hundred.”
The same voice responded instantly.
Again.
And again.
Ethan’s expression slowly darkened.
“Damn… who is that bastard?” he muttered under his breath.
Rathlos stood beside him with a serious expression.
“My lord… this feels like a ploy,” he said quietly.
Ethan glanced at him.
“We do not remember offending someone recently,” Rathlos continued.
“And even if we did, who would be foolish enough to waste this much money just to compete with us?”
Ethan nodded slowly. The other party was not just bidding. They were targeting him deliberately.
Every time Ethan raised the price, they followed without hesitation, as if they had been waiting only for him.
By now, the other party had already spent nearly three billion gold coins.
That amount was absurd.
No normal noble house would spend money like this without a clear purpose.Ethan narrowed his eyes slightly.
“There is no way this is just a random noble,” he said quietly.
Rathlos nodded.
“Agreed.”
“Either they have an endless source of wealth…”
“Or this is something planned.”
Ethan leaned back slowly in his seat.
His gaze turned cold and sharp.
“Then let’s see how long they can keep this up.”
But deep inside, he already understood one thing clearly.
Someone was deliberately playing against him.Once or twice could be dismissed as coincidence.
But seven times?
Are you kidding me?
Is this a joke or he didn’t hold any value. If not for auction he might already started swinging his sword.
That was no longer something one could ignore.
