Chapter 423:The Marriage
Chapter 423:The Marriage
In response, Mareti’s eyes flared brighter with golden light.
“My eyes,” she said quietly. “They can sense mana fluctuations. Aside from that, the purity of the color and the way the mana circulates inside the liquid are enough to tell.”
Ethan clicked his tongue.
“Damn. You guys know so much.”
“Of course,” Mareti replied while puffing her chest slightly. “Do you know who we are?”
Ethan did not answer. Instead, he smiled and pulled out a few scrolls from his storage ring. He placed them on the table in front of Mareti.
Unlike before, Mareti did not scream immediately. He leaned forward and studied the scrolls with sharp interest. His fingers hovered over the diagrams carefully.
“This… how did you get this?” hee asked in a lower voice.
“These are weapons of national importance. Though many kingdoms possess similar ones, only Eldoria has this level of quality. Where did you get the blueprint? And the potions… who is the alchemist? Where did you get them?”
His breathing became faster.
“Where? Where?” he almost shouted, like a fanatic who had just seen a god.
Ethan’s expression changed slightly.
“It seems you are forgetting our relationship,” he said in a calm but firm voice. “I am your master, not a servant. Also, some things are better kept secret.”
The words fell heavy.
An invisible pressure descended onto Mareti’s shoulders. It was not violent, but it was absolute. His body stiffened slightly, and cold sweat formed on his forehead.
“Where I got them is none of your concern,” Ethan continued. “Your only concern is to deliver what I asked you to do.”
The golden glow in Mareti’s eyes faded slowly. He lowered her head slightly and took a step back.
“Yes, my Liege,” he replied quietly.
Ethan lifted the pressure at once.
Mareti exhaled slowly and wiped the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand. The excitement in his expression had not vanished, but it was now restrained by discipline.
Ethan looked at her calmly.
“Focus on what I assigned you,” he said. “If you need materials, submit a list. I will arrange it.”
Mareti nodded, his mind already racing with calculations.
The laboratory returned to silence, but the tension in the air lingered.
….
Meanwhile, the wedding banquet of Ray had been in full motion for the past month. The entire estate was decorated with long silk banners and crystal lamps that shimmered under the evening light. Musicians played lively melodies in the courtyard, and nobles from different regions gathered in elegant attire, exchanging greetings and raising glasses in celebration.
Ethan had even managed to drag Herion and his daughter-in-law onto the stage earlier, forcing them to greet the guests properly instead of hiding in a corner. The event was grand, loud, and filled with warmth.
In the middle of all the noise and laughter, a small figure suddenly rushed toward him.
“Papa! Papa! I am back!” a cheerful voice rang out.
A little girl jumped straight into Ethan’s embrace. He caught her effortlessly and lifted her high into the air.
“Christina, my love. How are you?” Ethan looked at her with a soft gaze and showered her with affectionate kisses on her cheeks, making her squirm and pout.
“Papa, Papa, stop. I am a big girl,” Christina protested while trying to push his face away, though she was clearly enjoying the attention.
“Who said that?” Ethan replied warmly. “You will always be my little doll.”
He rubbed his cheek against hers playfully. Christina tried to act annoyed, but the bright smile on her face betrayed her happiness. She wrapped her arms around his neck and whispered something only he could hear, making him laugh softly.
After a few tender moments, Ethan set her down gently. His eyes then shifted toward Rina, who had been watching with a faint smile.
He stepped closer and gave her a gentle hug.
“Rina, I hope you haven’t suffered,” he said in a softer tone.
“How can that be?” Rina replied with a light laugh as she hugged him back. “It is already good that I haven’t bullied others to death.”
Ethan chuckled.
Before they could say more, Christina suddenly stuck her head between them.
“Ooof. Mama and Papa are doing forbidden things,” she teased mischievously while sticking out her tongue.
Rina immediately shot her a glare.
“This child. Do you want to be punished?”
“Ooo… Mama scolded me. I will complain to the other mothers,” Christina declared dramatically before running away toward the other children.
Ethan and Rina looked at each other and burst into quiet laughter.
“I am sure you have a lot to tell me,” Rina said gently.
“Yes,” Ethan replied. “But let’s wait until the marriage ceremony is over.”
Soon, the grand wedding ceremony of Ray and Florence began. The main hall was filled with guests, and the decorations glowed under golden lights. Ray stood tall in formal attire, while Florence looked radiant beside him. Even Herion appeared more composed now, standing respectfully during the ceremony.
After the main rituals and greetings, Ethan stepped away from the central stage to greet some important guests.
He walked toward his father-in-law, Phillips, and his mother-in-law, Emma.
Seeing Ethan approach, Phillips instinctively raised his hand slightly as if to salute him. However, he paused midway, remembering the difference in status between them now.
Ethan noticed the hesitation immediately. He laughed warmly and stepped forward, grabbing Phillips’ arms firmly and patting him on the shoulders.
“Father, what’s up with this alienation?” Ethan asked.
“Alienation? It is just that I am a small Baron,” Phillips replied with a bitter smile. “Who knew that in just a few decades our status would change like this?”
“Yes,” Emma added with a gentle smile as she held Ethan’s hand. “I never imagined you would reach such a height. With years ahead, you might even have a chance to become a Duke.”
Ethan squeezed Emma’s hands gently and laughed.
“Let’s not dream too big,” he said calmly. “Let us just do our best to live fully. Also, today the star of the program is someone else.”
He glanced toward Ray and Florence, who were surrounded by cheering guests.
The music rose again, and the celebration continued deep into the night.
