Chapter 421: Possession 2

Chapter 421: Possession 2

Mareti’s presence responded without words.

The crimson mist thickened and wrapped around Damor’s soul like a cocoon. It tightened slowly and methodically, leaving no gap.

Damor’s soul thrashed, clawed, and tried to tear free.

“NO! I AM PRIDE! I—”

The words dissolved into a distorted scream.

The crimson haze swallowed him whole.

There was no explosion nor any  dramatic burst of light.

Just a gradual engulfing.

Damor’s soul was consumed piece by piece until nothing remained.

Moments later, his physical body, which had been twisting and trembling violently, finally ceased moving.

Silence fell over the chamber.

The only sound left was the faint hum of the runes on the scepter.

Ethan watched closely.

Damor’s eyes, which had been wide with terror, slowly lost their luster. The red glow faded. The pupils darkened. They became dull and lifeless for a brief second.

Then something shifted.

A new darkness settled within them.

Through the stamp marked on Mareti’s soul, Ethan clearly perceived the change. The connection stabilized, and the chaotic turbulence inside the vessel calmed.

He took a quiet moment to observe.

“Mareti, are you there?” Ethan asked calmly.

Damor’s head tilted slightly.

The dull eyes moved again, and a deeper, colder darkness replaced the previous madness.

“Yes, my Liege,” the voice that came out was smoother, layered faintly with Mareti’s original tone. “I am here.”

Ethan studied her carefully.

“What happened to Damor?”

“He is dead,” she replied without hesitation. “I have wiped out his soul of existence.”

There was no emotion in his voice.

“I have successfully occupied this body,” he continued, flexing his fingers slowly as if testing them. “However, I will need a few days to fully adjust.”

“Hm.” Ethan nodded thoughtfully.

He could sense that her spiritual fluctuations were stable, though the body still felt slightly stiff under his control.

He shifted his gaze toward the second demon, who had been watching everything unfold.

The demon’s face had gone completely pale. His eyes were wide with absolute horror. Sweat poured down his face as he trembled violently against the wall.

“What about him?” Ethan asked.

Mareti turned her new gaze toward the remaining captive.

“My Liege,” he said softly, “can you give him to me? I want to experiment.”

He took a small step forward, testing the balance of his new body.

“And if possible,” she added calmly, “leave all the heinous ones you wish to kill to me.”

Hall, who had been standing silently at the side, finally spoke. His expression was cautious.

“My Lord,” he said respectfully, “won’t that be dangerous?”

Ethan did not look away from Mareti.

“Don’t worry,” he replied calmly. “I have enslaved him. It won’t be a problem.”

The enslaved demon shook his head frantically.

“No! No! Please! I will speak! I will tell you everything!”

But Mareti only smiled faintly through Damor’s borrowed face.

“No need…”

…..

Rathlos was busy going through a stack of documents when his brows suddenly furrowed. His hand paused mid-air, and his sharp eyes lifted slightly as if sensing something unusual.

“This…” he muttered under his breath.

Ray, who was standing nearby reviewing a separate file, noticed the change in his expression.

“What happened, Sir Rathlos?” Ray asked, setting the file down slowly as he looked at him.

Rathlos adjusted his posture and straightened his coat.

“Nothing, Young Lord,” he replied calmly, though his gaze remained thoughtful. “It seems we will have a new guest.”

Ray raised his brows slightly.

“New guest?”

For a brief moment, something clicked in his mind. He remembered something important and quickly asked, “What happened to the two Demon generals Father brought?”

Rathlos gave a small smile, though it carried a hint of mystery.

“Oh, them. Don’t worry about them. They are getting suitable treatment.”

Ray stared at him for a second but did not press further. He knew that if Father had taken personal interest in them, then whatever was happening would not be simple.

Rathlos then looked at Ray with a softer expression.

“As for you, Young Lord, you have grown quite strong,” he said while adjusting his spectacles. “It should not be long before the Lord entrusts the town to you to take care of.”

Ray nodded slowly. He had already sensed that such a day would come soon. There had been subtle hints in Father’s behavior lately.

They were about to continue the discussion when suddenly the office door burst open with a loud bang.

“Ahhh! Father! Father! Where are you?” a loud voice echoed through the room.

“Your son is doomed!”

Ray’s expression instantly turned cold.

“Herion, where are your manners?” Ray shouted sharply as he stepped forward.

“Is this what I taught you?”

His tone carried clear disappointment. During the two years he had been away, Herion seemed to have changed far too much. Ray felt a growing frustration. It seemed he might really need to knock some sense into him soon.

Herion stood at the doorway, slightly out of breath. His hair was messy, and his clothes looked hurriedly worn.

He glanced at Ray and Rathlos before speaking urgently.

“It’s a grave problem. I need Father’s opinion.”

Ray closed the file in his hand with a firm slap and stepped closer.

“What did you do now?” he asked with narrowed eyes.

Herion frowned immediately.

“It’s a big mess. You won’t understand.”

Ray’s eyes sharpened.

“What mess?” he asked calmly, though there was clear pressure behind his voice.

Rathlos cleared his throat and nudged his spectacles up his nose.

“Tell us,” he said in a steady tone. “You can rely on us. We might take care of things before Lord comes to know.”

Herion looked at both of them carefully. His expression shifted from urgency to hesitation.

He scratched the back of his head and shook his head slowly.

“It’s not that I don’t want to tell you,” he began, looking slightly awkward. “Rather, you two are quite greenhorns and won’t understand. After all, this is something that needs to be discussed between married men.”

The room fell silent.

Ray’s face stiffened.

Rathlos blinked once behind his glasses.

“….”
