Chapter 414:The Reason Behind The War

Chapter 414:The Reason Behind The War

“You used human hearts for elixir?”

Az swallowed hard and shouted back, his voice cracking, “Yes!”

“For some reason, a deadly disease infected demons. All new demons affected by it die with their potential locked. To cure it, we need human hearts.”

“Whatttt!” Ethan’s voice rose sharply.

“This war,” Ethan asked weakly with desperation clear in his eyes. “You know that. You aren’t joking with me, right? You’re not coming up with a shitty excuse—”

The pressure spiked again.

Az screamed as his spine slammed into the invisible wall behind him, the force knocking the air from his lungs.

“Do you think I am in the situation to lie?” Az roared back, his voice breaking.

Ethan did not answer.

Instead, his aura surged violently as he stepped forward and struck, the blow slammed into Az with deadly force even through the prison.

Az coughed violently, blood splattering across the inside of the glowing cage as his body convulsed.

Ethan slowly turned his head away, his gaze lifting toward the darkened sky above.

“Just what the hell is going on here,” he muttered, his voice heavy with confusion and anger as the light prison continued to hum behind him.

…..

Meanwhile, at the back of the battlefield, everything had quieted down. The flames were gone, the noise had faded, and only scorched land remained. Amber stood alert, her gaze sweeping the surroundings cautiously, when suddenly the earth began to rumble and quake beneath their feet.

Her eyes snapped upward.

Everyone followed her gaze and spotted it. Far in the distance, a huge mushroom-shaped figure was rising into the sky, dark smoke and light twisting together as it climbed higher and higher. The sight was terrifying, yet Amber’s tense body finally relaxed.

She was sure now.

That man had done it.

She had already sensed something was coming when he moved ahead earlier. His plan had been simple and ruthless. Destroy the demon barracks completely and cripple them beyond recovery.

COUGH… COUGHH!

“MASTERRR!”

Ray gasped in shock as he turned back and saw Amber’s face turn pale. Blood spilled from her lips as she staggered and sat down heavily on a mound of broken earth. Her breathing became uneven, and her shoulders trembled slightly.

Florence rushed forward at once and grabbed her, supporting her before she could fall further.

“Master, what happened? Are you all right?” Florence asked anxiously, her voice tight with worry.

“It’s okay… just a bit injured,” Amber replied with a weary smile. She tried to sound calm, but only she knew how bad her condition truly was.

Her breakthrough should have improved her state, but the truth was far worse. She had burned her lifespan to force that power, and it had pushed her body into a deadly situation.

Nearly sixty years of her life had been consumed. Coupled with an unstable breakthrough, her condition was critical. If she did not recuperate properly and kept forcing herself to fight, she would lose her chance to ever go beyond the Legendary rank.

Ray looked at her worried face and spoke quickly. “Master, don’t worry. I am sure my father would have a solution.”

“You are right, Ray.”

Ray was taken aback the moment he heard a familiar voice behind him. He almost jumped out of his skin seeing Ethan appearing behind.

“Father… Can you stop scaring me like that?”

Ethan ignored his rambling completely. Instead, his sharp gaze moved to Florence, studying her carefully. Florence felt nervous under his scrutiny and lowered her head slightly. For a moment, guilt crept into her heart, and she wondered if Ethan disliked her.

Then a hand landed gently on her head.

“Good girl,” Ethan said calmly. “From a prisoner nobody to Advanced Knight rank. I am sure your parents must be proud of you.”

Florence froze.

“I am really happy that you chose this little rascal,” Ethan continued with a faint smile.”Thank you for becoming a part of our family.”

Florence’s face heated up instantly. She waved her hands frantically, flustered beyond words.

“No… it’s my honor…” she said softly, unable to look up.

Ethan laughed lightly and then turned his attention to Amber.

He had to admit it. She was quite beautiful, similar to Julia in some ways. However, there was one clear difference.

She was taller than him.

Yes, she was a few inches taller than him.

Ethan walked closer and suddenly knelt down in front of her, startling both Ray and Florence.

“Thank you, miss, for helping my kids,” Ethan said sincerely. “I don’t know what would have happened to them without you.”

Amber was momentarily stunned.

“Your condition is worse, so first eat this,” Ethan added as he pulled out a small strawberry-shaped fruit from his hand. The fruit glowed faintly and carried a gentle fragrance that made Amber curious.

“Just eat it. It’s nothing much,” he said casually.

Amber did not stand on the ceremony. She took the fruit and bit into it.

The moment she did, her eyes widened.

SWooosh!

A huge surge of vitality poured into her body. Warmth spread through her veins as her damaged flesh and strained organs began to heal. She could clearly feel it. A portion of her burned lifespan was being restored.

Her breathing steadied.

Her pain eased.

Amber stared at Ethan in shock.

“This…” she began, wanting to ask something.

Ethan interrupted her calmly. “Lady, let’s leave the questions for later. We need to get out of this place immediately.”

Ray frowned in confusion. “Why?”

Ethan looked at him seriously. “Because my appearance will draw too much attention, and Arcadia has strictly ordered us not to get involved directly. Also, I have destroyed their camp. That will buy some time, but Frontier needs time to think and prepare.”

He paused briefly and then continued, “So we will leave now.”

Ray opened his mouth as if to argue, but then shut it again when he saw Ethan’s expression.

“Ray, you’ve had enough fun,” Ethan said calmly. “It’s time to return.”

Ray sighed deeply, his shoulders slumping, and finally nodded in acceptance.

The ruined land behind them was silent, but the ripples of what had happened would soon spread far beyond this battlefield.
