Chapter 400:We Are Demons, You Bastard
Chapter 400:We Are Demons, You Bastard
Unlike the beginning, when Ray had been a nobody, after two years of constant toil and bloodshed he had already become someone well known.
At a young age, coupled with his strength at the Advanced rank and his striking looks, Ray had become a familiar figure across the army camps. Soldiers whispered his name with respect. New recruits looked at him with admiration. Veterans watched him with guarded approval. He was no longer just another blade on the field.
Ray wiped the blood from his sword and slid it back into its sheath. He turned his head and looked at Florence.
“Are you alright?” he asked.
“I am,” Florence replied, then narrowed her eyes. “But can you stop rushing forward like an idiot?”
Ray turned away immediately, pretending he had not heard her.
“Damn it,” Florence shouted, stomping her foot in annoyance. “You are ignoring me again.”
She did not notice that her small gesture did nothing to anger him. Instead, Ray glanced at her from the corner of his eye, his expression softening as he muttered inwardly, How cute…
“You just thought that I am cute, right?” Florence snapped.
“Of course not,” Ray replied without hesitation.
“Which guy in his right mind would think a demoness like you is cute?”
Florence froze.
“Demoness?” she repeated slowly. “You called me a demoness?”
Before Ray could react, she lunged forward, her hand raised.
The surrounding soldiers quickly looked away, some chuckling under their breath. This scene had become strangely familiar.
“Enough!”
A sharp voice cut through the air.
Ray and Florence stiffened instantly. They turned around and stood straight, saluting without hesitation.
A silver haired woman stood before them. Her posture was firm, and her eyes were calm yet heavy with authority.
“Florence is correct,” she said. “With your strength, you are becoming conceited.”
Ray lowered his head and bowed slightly. “Master Amber, I know it is wrong, but if I had been even a second late, many lives would have been lost.”
Amber did not reply immediately. Instead, she turned her gaze toward the battlefield.
The land was ruined. Broken weapons lay scattered everywhere. Craters marred the ground. Demon corpses were piled in uneven heaps, their twisted faces frozen in pain and hatred. Human bodies, covered in torn armor and blood soaked cloth, were being carefully carried away.
Knights moved around quietly, resisting their exhaustion as they helped clear the field. Some leaned on their weapons to breathe. Others knelt beside fallen comrades, closing eyes that would never open again. Medics rushed between the wounded, shouting orders.
Amber’s eyes lingered on the most damaged bodies, those torn apart so badly they were barely recognizable. Her fingers clenched tightly, and she took a deep breath.
“Even I am affected by this, Ray,” she said softly. “But what could we do? If you rush alone and lose your life, think about how many lives you could save later.”
She knew the argument was flawed and knew that it sounded hollow. But she had no better words.
After all, she herself had broken orders and rushed here to help Frontier. Without her presence, the land might have already fallen.
Since arriving, she had noticed Ray’s extraordinary talent among the younger generation and had decided to take him as her disciple.
Just then, Florence’s voice pulled her attention back.
“Master,” Florence said slowly, “did you notice something?”
Amber looked at her.
“Most of the time, they went straight for the heart,” Florence continued. “Do demons like eating human hearts?”
The question made Amber frown.
She was about to answer when her eyes suddenly widened.
“What—” Ray began.
Before he could finish, Amber stepped forward and drew her sword.
BOOOOOOOOOOOM!
Her blade crashed into an invisible force. The impact shook the entire area. A massive shockwave exploded outward, sending soldiers, debris, and broken weapons flying through the air. The ground cracked. Trees snapped. Dust and smoke filled the sky.
Ray reacted instantly. He jumped forward and wrapped his arms around Florence, shielding her as they were thrown back violently.
They slammed into the ground and rolled several times before stopping.
“Cough! Cough!”
Ray lifted his head and looked at Florence anxiously.
“Don’t worry,” she said, forcing herself to breathe properly. “I am good.”
Ray turned toward Amber. “Are you alright, Master?”
“I am,” Amber replied, her voice sharp.
As the dust slowly settled, Amber’s expression hardened.
“A sneak attack,” she roared. “Have you no shame!”
Her words echoed across the field.
Two figures emerged from the sky.
They floated calmly, their presence heavy and suffocating.
Amber’s expression fell when she saw them clearly.
One of them had a handsome face and long reddish hair. He smiled faintly as he spoke.
“You are mistaken,” he said. “I take pride in my power and do not resort to petty tricks. That was a declaration of our presence.”
He tilted his head slightly. “I covered my strength and knew you could defend against it.”
Then he stepped forward and bowed slightly.
“Before fighting, let me introduce myself,” he said calmly. “I am Damor Lucifer from the Clan of Pride, and standing beside me is Rayon Beelzebub.”
Rayon gnashed his teeth and shouted, “We are not here to party. Can you stop it already?”
Damor waved his hand dismissively. “Pardon his mumbling and ignore it if you can.”
He then looked at Amber directly. “And who are you?”
“I am Amber Lancelot,” Amber replied.
She released her aura fully.
The ground trembled. The air grew heavy. Soldiers struggled to stand as pressure pressed down on them.
Damor’s smile widened.
“Very well, my lady,” he said. “I challenge you to a one on one match. If you defeat me, we will retreat. But if you lose—”
Before he could finish, Rayon roared, releasing his own deadly aura. The air screamed as the pressure intensified.
“WHAT THE FUCK!” Rayon shouted. “WHO DECIDED THAT!”
“Don’t go fucking around and mess things up!”
Rayon moved forward aggressively, but Damor stopped him with a raised hand.
“How vulgar,” Damor said calmly. “Please act civilized.”
“We are demons, you bastard!” Rayon screamed.
