Chapter 374: Nefracious Intent
Chapter 374: Nefracious Intent
Suddenly, the clear sky changed. Thick clouds rolled in fast and covered the last light of the sun. A low sound of thunder moved across the battlefield, and it sent a chill through every soldier.
The evening, which was already dim, fell into near total darkness.
Morderic’s uneasy voice broke the silence. He tightened his grip on his spear and looked around. “They’re here, but how are we supposed to fight in the dark? I can’t see anything. Can you guys?”
He saw only dark shapes around him. Faces were barely visible. Nearby soldiers spoke in low voices, and fear slipped into their words.
Then a powerful voice exploded from the front like thunder.
“It’s here. Prepare yourselves!”
It was the King Knight. Even in the dark, his presence could be felt clearly.
“It’s the Three Legged Golden Crow!”
In the next second, the sky burst with light.
A huge fiery crow appeared high above them. Its wings were wide, and flames flowed from its body as it flew. Intense heat spread across the field, and the battlefield was lit as if a second sun had risen.
The darkness disappeared. Bright golden light covered the land. Sharp shadows formed on the ground. Soldiers felt warmth on their faces, and the cold fear inside them eased a little.
People looked up at the flaming crow. Their eyes reflected the fire in the sky. “So powerful,” someone murmured softly. Awe and fear mixed inside their chest.
The next moment, a huge blast of flames erupted from the sky and rushed toward the human formation. The heat rolled forward like a burning storm, and the air itself felt like it was tearing apart.
“Damn! If it hits us, we are gone!”
“Fuck… This is too much!”
Screams and shouts broke out across the ranks. Some soldiers raised their shields on instinct. Others froze, their faces pale.
Before the sea of flames could reach them, several figures shot out from the city walls. Their movements were fast and sharp. They rose into the air and struck the fire blast head on.
BOOOOOOOOM!
The collision shook the sky. The flame wave was forced upward and torn apart.
At the same time, the air around the wall twisted. Wind and mana collapsed toward a single point. A man stepped forward and planted his feet firmly. He drew a gigantic bow. The bowstring creaked under pressure as he pulled it back to his cheek.
His eyes narrowed.
He released.
The arrow cut through the sky, leaving behind a bright streak of light. It crossed the battlefield in a blink and hit the three legged golden crow with a heavy blast.
BOOOOOOOM!
The creature let out a sharp, painful screech. Flames burst outward from its body. Its huge form broke apart in mid air and pieces of burning feathers scattered like falling stars.
The massive body fell.
It slammed into the ground with a deep crash that shook the earth. Even in death, it burned and glowed, and heat waves rolled off its corpse. Anyone could tell that even the dead body was valuable.
A man on the wall cupped his hands around his mouth and shouted down at the soldiers.
“Stop losing your composure, you dumb fuckers! It is just a B rank demon!”
He spat to the side and grabbed another arrow.
“It looks big, but that does not mean its realm is high!”
He pulled the bowstring again.
“Also, the bigger they are, the better the target!”
He released.
The arrow shot into the distance and exploded behind the fallen crow, scattering smaller flying beasts that had tried to follow.
Then the ground began to shake again.
At first, it was light. Then it grew stronger. A steady rumble moved through the earth. Every soldier knew that sound.
The enemy was coming.
“Archers, into your positions!” the Knight Commander roared. His voice cut through the chaos like a blade.
The archers moved at once. The commander and the others ran to their marks. They formed tight lines with practiced teamwork.
Bows were raised. Arrows were nocked.
Each arrow carried a different skill. Some burned with fire. Some swirled with wind. Others shone with magic. Fingers rested on bowstrings, ready to release.
Their eyes stayed locked on the horizon.
Dark shapes slowly came into view.
Massive beasts stepped forward from the distance. Each one was larger than anything most soldiers had ever seen. Their bodies were bulky and covered in thick, armor like shells. The golden light from the sky reflected off their exoskeletons.
These were not normal monsters.
They were high rank demon monsters.
Behind where the golden crow had fallen, more creatures appeared.
Hordes of different beasts moved together. They came from many races and regions, yet they marched in perfect order, as if one cruel will guided them.
Huge tusked war boars charged at the front. Their hides looked as hard as iron. Their red eyes burned with madness. They snorted loudly, and steam came from their noses as they pawed at the ground.
Beside them ran packs of wolves. Their bodies were lean and tight with muscle. Their dark fur stood up along their backs. Long fangs shone under the battlefield light. They moved low and silent, their eyes fixed ahead.
Behind them came towering ape like brutes. Their muscles rolled under thick skin. Each one held a rough stone weapon in a massive hand. Their roars echoed across the land like thunder.
Above, dark winged creatures circled. Their shadows passed over the soldiers like signs of death. Their talons were sharp, and their beaks could pierce armor. They screeched and dived low, trying to shake the human lines.
Between the larger monsters, long serpentine creatures slid forward. Their scales shimmered strangely, like oil on water. Their eyes were cold and calm, watching everything.
The demonic monster army was here and among group standing thier a white haired boy stood shoulder to shoulder with blue haired woman waiting to jump over the fray.
……
Back in Arcadia.
A small carriage rolled slowly along the dirt road under the cold night sky. The wheels creaked, and the lantern hanging at the side swayed with each bump. Inside, a girl lay curled up in the corner, her body pressed tight as if trying to take up less space. Outside, two men walked beside the carriage with lazy steps. Their armor straps hung loose, and both of them were yawning again and again.
“Our task is just to drop her there and leave right..” one of them asked, scratching his neck.
“Yes!”
“Just drop her and leave. That’s what we were paid for..”
The other man stretched his arms and rolled his shoulders.
“The lady inside looks beautiful. Should we tease her.”
“I don’t think there would be consequences. After all she was thrown a piece of garbage from Halcrest.”
“Shut up idiots. Don’t you know whom she belongs to.”
