Chapter 337:Darkness Descent
Chapter 337:Darkness Descent
NEIGHHHHH!
The sharp, panicked cries of horses tore through the air as a large group thundered down the stone road with hooves striking the ground in wild rhythm. Dust rose behind them like a storm, chased by hurried shouts and strained breaths.
“Princess, calm down!”
“We are going too fast!”
“Please, slow down!”
At front was a woman riding over the horses behind whom knights barked.
Sera De Rudius did not listen.
She yanked the reins harder making her horse surging forward again. Her breath came out uneven and her eyes burned with worry and anger.
“Calm down?” she snapped, finally slowing just enough to glare at the men beside her. “How do you want me to calm down in a situation like this?”
Her voice trembled as she shouted, the frustration and fear breaking through.
The Fourth Princess of Ruthiana.
Sera De Rudius.
She had been in the Arcadia Empire for negotiations, far from home. Hearing about the grand royal occasion, she had departed early, eager to return. But before she could even reach the capital, terrifying news reached her ears.
There had been a brutal fight.
The First Prince had moved first, dragging innocent people into chaos and even bringing in external forces. After that, everything became unclear. Her informant had gone silent. There were no messages nor any signs.
“Everything was going well,” she muttered under her breath, biting her lip hard. “God knows what they are doing now.”
Her heart pounded painfully in her chest.
She urged her horse forward again, racing with her entourage until the capital walls came into view. A massive crowd had gathered near the damaged gates. Smoke still lingered in the air. Cracked stone and broken ground told a story of destruction that made her stomach sink.
She pulled the reins sharply, her horse skidding to a halt.
“What the hell is going on here?” she roared.
Her voice cut through the noise, drawing everyone’s attention.
“What the hell is going on here?” she roared.
Her voice cut through the noise, drawing everyone’s attention.
“Sera!”
A weak voice answered.
From the crowd, a battered figure crawled forward. Blood stained his clothes, and his face was pale.
“Brother…” Sera gasped.
She jumped down from her horse without waiting for help and rushed toward him.
Albert, the Third Prince, struggled to stand, supported by trembling hands. His eyes were dark and hollow.
Sera’s gaze swept across the area, taking in the wounded nobles, the shattered ground, the fear etched on every face. Then her eyes stopped on Claira.
Claira’s lips parted. “Sister…”
Sera froze for a brief moment.
She had no strong feelings toward this younger sister. There wasn’t any hatred, but no warmth either. To her, Claira had always been just another obstacle in the palace. Another complication.
Sera turned away, deliberately ignoring her.
“What is going on here?” Sera demanded.
Albert let out a bitter breath. “Father… he lost it. He went on a rampage.”
“Father went on a rampage?” Sera repeated, her eyes widening.
Her body shook, just slightly.
“Is this some kind of joke?”
Albert looked at her coldly. “Does it look like I am joking?”
“But why would he do this?” Sera asked, her voice dropping.
“Power,” Albert said.
Then he laughed.
“Hahahahaha!”
The sound was sharp and broken, echoing through the ruined space. The nobles nearby shivered when they heard it.
“I understand everything now,” Albert continued, his laughter twisting into something almost hysterical. “Everything is clear.”
“The meaningless war at the frontier. All that bullshit was for dragon bones.”
His eyes burned as he spoke.
“He did something with them. He used them and became strong.”
Albert clenched his fists. “It seems we were the foolish ones. We were deceived by him our entire lives.”
His laughter faded into a hoarse breath, leaving behind a heavy silence.
Sera swallowed hard. “So what is happening now?”
“Father ..He seems to have reached the Emperor Knight realm.”
Albert turned his head toward the ruins. “Baron Ethan is fighting Father.”
“Baron Ethan?” Sera shrieked. “What?”
The shock hit her like a hammer.
Her father becoming an Emperor Knight was already unbelievable. But a Baron standing against him?
Seeing her expression, Albert let out a weak chuckle. “You really know nothing, Sera. You were studying in the Academy at Arcadia.”
“Baron Ethan earned great merits. He stepped into the King realm two years ago. And now…” Albert’s voice faltered. “Now it seems he can even fight an Emperor—”
BOOOOOOM!
The ground shook violently, cutting his words short.
Everyone turned as a massive explosion erupted in the distance. A huge cloud of dark miasma surged upward, twisting and spreading as it climbed into the sky like a living nightmare.
“Run!”
“Run away!”
“What is that?”
“God save us!”
Screams filled the air as panic exploded through the crowd.
The dark cloud continued to spread, threatening to swallow everything. However before they could extend out blinding streaks of light shot out from within it.
One after another, brilliant beams tore through the darkness.
The miasma was cut apart, ripped open by holy light. A dazzling flash split the sky, scattering the dark fog.
For a moment, people thought it was over.
Then the miasma surged again, thicker and more violent. This time no slight slashed interuppted it.
Instead, a massive flying beast descended from the sky at terrifying speed.
“Ahhhh!A monster…”
“Damnn!It’s coming straight for us.”
“Everyone run!” someone screamed.
“There is no hope for us!”
The enormous body crashed toward the ground, shaking the earth as it landed.
Sera instinctively turned to her guards. “Attack!”
“Stop!” Duke Phillips shouted.
Claira grabbed Sera’s arm, her face pale. “Stop! He is with us!”
“With us?” Sera asked, stunned.
The beast’s form shifted, scales retreating as its body shrank. In moments, Rathlos stood there, bloodied and exhausted.
“We cannot contain it,” Rathlos said heavily. “Ethan was fighting it when a hand dragged him inside.”
His words struck like a death sentence.
“We should run and leave,” Rathlos added grimly.
Claira’s legs gave out, and she nearly collapsed. Duke Phillips caught her quickly, shaking her shoulders.
“Do not lose your composure,” he said firmly. “It is not over.”
Rathlos nodded and his eyes burned with stubborn faith.
“That boy has performed many miracles,” he said. “And he is not done yet.”
Rathlos had barely finished speaking when a voracious, angry growling roar blasted across the land.
The sound was so violent that it shook the air itself.
Everyone turned toward the broken walls in horror, their faces draining of color. Beyond the ruins, a swirling mass of darkness was gathering, twisting and churning as it slowly took on a humanoid shape.
Rathlos stared at it, his lips parting slightly.
“…Did I just jinx it?” he muttered under his breath.
