Chapter 451: Rumors, Shadows Deep in the Forest

  • Next Chapter

Ning Fei had just blocked the kangaroo's attack. Furious, the animal leapt high into the air, aiming a vicious double-footed kick straight at him!

This was a kangaroo's most powerful attack.

If an ordinary person took a kick like that, they would easily end up in the hospital!

The force behind it was far greater than a horse's backward kick!

But Ning Fei possessed top-tier reflexes.

The moment he saw the animal winding up for the jump, he shifted his weight. Planting his left foot firmly on the ground, he snapped his right leg high.

A Huaxia martial arts front kick!

His foot smashed heavily into the kangaroo's descending feet.

Then, the unexpected happened again!

Ning Fei rapidly withdrew his leg and stabilized his stance!

The massive kangaroo, on the other hand, was sent flying backward by the sheer force of the blow.

"Holy shit!"

"Superman!"

"He's so fucking strong!"

"Where the hell did Ning Guan master learn this martial art?!"

"A Daoist priest who has lived deep in the mountains and cultivated since childhood would naturally possess terrifying strength!"

The viewers praised him endlessly.

The kangaroo crashed into the dirt but quickly scrambled back to its feet.

Ning Fei had only used the animal's own momentum to repel it without striking any vital areas, so it wasn't injured.

"There are many species of kangaroos in Australia. Some of them eat well and get a lot of exercise, making them exceptionally sturdy."

"While hunting kangaroos is perfectly legal, a vast majority of Australians are quite fond of them and refuse to do it."

"You won't find much kangaroo meat in local supermarkets either; most of it is exported."

"In a small town like this, as long as the kangaroos don't cause any major destruction, the locals just give them a wide berth."

Ning Fei said.

This was his first time seeing a live kangaroo.

While these two weren't exactly cute—looking downright fierce, in fact—it didn't stop him from appreciating such unique creatures.

The two kangaroos stared back at him.

However, they seemed far more cautious now.

A moment later, losing their nerve, they turned and bounded into the nearby jungle, fleeing as fast as their legs could carry them.

Only then did the local man step out from behind his front door.

"My god, young man, you are incredible! I can't believe you actually fought off those two brutes," the man said in astonishment.

"Just got lucky," Ning Fei replied with a smile.

"You must be the new neighbor next door. I'm Rum, nice to meet you." Rum extended a thick, muscular arm and enthusiastically shook Ning Fei's hand.

The viewers noticed that Rum's arm was covered in thick, dense hair.

People in certain regions naturally grew so much body hair that it looked like they were wearing a fur sweater and pants year-round.

Ning Fei politely shook his hand in return.

Little Dog barked twice from the sidelines.

"Hello, I'm Ning Fei."

"Are you planning to stay long, or just visiting friends?" Rum struck up a casual conversation. Whenever a new neighbor moved in, it was customary to get acquainted.

"I'm just visiting for a few days. I heard the rainforest here is beautiful, so I wanted to explore it," Ning Fei answered with a smile.

"Yeah, the scenery around here is absolutely gorgeous."

"But it's getting late. You should be careful."

"There have been some nasty rumors around town lately. People have seen a terrifying black shadow in the forest at night, and they've heard bizarre cries. Nowadays, hardly anyone leaves the town after dark."

"If you don't mind, you can come over to my yard tonight. I'll invite some of the neighbors, and we can have a barbecue and some beers. What do you say?"

Rum was incredibly welcoming.

However, his warning had piqued Ning Fei's interest.

What fascinated Ning Fei wasn't the barbecue, of course, but the terrifying black shadow Rum had mentioned.

A terrifying black shadow? That was just perfect.

The viewers quickly joined the fun in the chat.

"Ning Guan master was just worrying about having nowhere to show off his skills!"

"A Daoist traveling abroad to banish demons and slay monsters... Now that's a beautiful thing!"

"Where are the monsters?!"

Ning Fei smiled and replied, "Thanks for the offer, but I don't think I'll be able to make it tonight."

"I still have some little ones back at the house to take care of."

Hearing this, Rum shrugged.

"No problem," he said. "Just be careful out there tonight."

"The town's security is pretty weak. We only have three officers at the local station, so rescue operations can be really difficult to manage."

Ning Fei smiled, waved goodbye to Rum, and continued walking deeper into the rainforest.

Rum watched him go. Recalling how the young man had effortlessly repelled that muscular kangaroo in just two moves, he clicked his tongue in admiration.

"Ning Guan master, that local guy said there's a black shadow in the jungle. Aren't you scared?" a viewer asked.

"I've seen a lot of foreign horror movies, and they all start exactly like this."

"Now that you mention it, a remote town, a deserted highway, deep in the jungle... Isn't this just the plot of Wrong Turn?"

"Don't scare me guys! Is there really a homicidal maniac hiding in the jungle?!"

Some of the viewers were genuinely worried.

Ning Fei remained calm. He said, "Movie scenes are generally purely fictional."

"The shadowy figure Rum mentioned might have just been some large animal darting past."

"As the story spreads from person to person, it gets more and more exaggerated."

"The environment here is exceptionally pristine, so it's naturally home to a lot of rare and exotic animals."

"There's definitely no real danger."

Just then, noticing that Little Dog had wandered off a bit too far, Ning Fei called out, and the pup cheerfully trotted right back to his side.

"Besides, I only planned to scout the area today."

"Since Rum mentioned a shadowy figure, I plan to find out exactly what it is."

Ning Fei was incredibly bold.

Fearless at heart and armed with impressive skills, he naturally wasn't afraid of any evil spirits.

Walking deeper into the jungle, Ning Fei took in the surrounding scenery and said, "Australia also falls within a tropical region, so the vegetation here closely resembles a Tropical Rainforest."

"Though, it isn't quite as hot and humid as the Amazon."

"This unique environment has given rise to highly unique species."

Ning Fei took a few steps forward.

Suddenly, Little Dog let out a few sharp barks.

Ning Fei followed the pup's gaze. It turned out Little Dog had discovered two koalas hugging the base of a tree trunk. Ning Fei then said, "Little Dog, quiet down."

"Koalas hold a very high status in Australia. If the locals catch you barking at them like that, they'll be furious."

Hearing his master's warning, Little Dog immediately went quiet.

The pup meant no harm; he simply hadn't seen a koala before and was just trying to say hello.

Ning Fei knew this, but to an outsider, it would look like a vicious dog aggressively barking at the gentle koalas.

"Poor Little Dog."

"He can't help it; they're a first-class protected species."

"Little Dog has played with plenty of first-class protected animals! Even giant pandas are his playmates."

The viewers laughed and teased the dog.

Meanwhile, the drone's camera slowly zoomed in.

The viewers got a clear look at the koalas clinging to the tree.

Both koalas had their eyes crinkled in a dopey, smiling expression, looking incredibly adorable.

"Koalas are very happy animals."

"They actually rank fifteenth on the list of the world's cutest species."

"They're Australia's national treasure and are incredibly beloved locally."

Ning Fei stepped closer to the two koalas and continued softly.

Then, the viewers witnessed a magical scene.

Upon seeing Ning Fei, the two koalas actually took the initiative to crawl toward him. They even stretched out their little arms, looking exactly like they wanted a hug.

The crowd in the livestream was utterly stunned.

Koalas were generally friendly toward humans.

Ning Fei didn't hesitate. He reached out and scooped both koalas into his arms.

"Wow! I am officially jealous!"

"These koalas are so cute!"

"Traveling to another country just to cuddle their national treasures... What a life."

The stream was filled with pure joy.

It was a truly heartwarming sight.

Afterward, Ning Fei continued deeper into the forest.

It wasn't long before the sky began to darken.

Without sunlight, the jungle quickly took on a much more sinister atmosphere.

As Ning Fei strolled through the undergrowth, he couldn't help but feel a tinge of disappointment that he hadn't spotted the shadowy figure Rum had mentioned. He decided it was time to head back with Little Dog.

But right at that moment, a series of bizarre, eerie cries echoed from the deepest depths of the jungle.
