Chapter 427: Shocking Discovery, The Underground Ancient City in the Sandstorm!
How terrifying was a sandstorm?
Just a moment ago, Ning Fei had only seen the distant horizon turn pitch black, as if covered by dense, dark clouds.
Not long after, the light where Ning Fei stood also began to dim.
The wind and sand whipped up without warning!
Visible grains of sand began to violently whip through the air.
This...
Holy shit! This is way too intense!
Run, Temple Master Ning!
The viewers were stunned!
Who could have imagined their luck would be this terrible, running straight into a sandstorm during a perfectly normal archaeological expedition?"Sandstorms are common in the desert, especially in the Lop Nur region."
"But for this sandstorm to hit so suddenly!"
Ning Fei's expression turned grim.
The rest of the archaeological team looked equally pale.
"I found the entrance!"
Right at that moment, Lin Tao shouted.
"Everyone, gather over here!"
"We don't know how fierce this sandstorm will get. It isn't safe out in the open desert!"
"We definitely won't be able to outrun it in the cars!"
"Going underground is our only option right now!"
The archaeological team instantly reacted to Lin Tao's words.
Moving quickly, everyone sprinted straight in Lin Tao's direction.
The sandstorm intensified, and visibility plummeted.
The viewers watched as the sand whipped into a frenzy; they could barely even make out Ning Fei's figure on the livestream.
Only now did everyone realize just how terrifying a sandstorm was.
In just a split second, the sandstorm had completely engulfed them.
Ning Fei was the furthest away from Lin Tao, but he ran incredibly fast.
The camera feed was completely obscured by sand, making it impossible for the viewers to see his exact speed.
They could only catch glimpses of the Daoist priest's silhouette flashing through the swirling sand, moving so swiftly he seemed to be flying.
Before long, Ning Fei caught up to Xue Fang as he ran.
Xue Fang was also quite far from Lin Tao.
The situation was incredibly dire. With visibility dropping rapidly, if they didn't hurry, they would likely lose track of Lin Tao's location entirely.
Nimble and light on his feet, Ning Fei slipped behind Xue Fang and tapped her on the shoulder.
The sudden touch made Xue Fang jump.
Then, to get her to safety, Ning Fei simply hoisted Xue Fang over his shoulder and accelerated forward.
Seeing this, the viewers were stunned once more.
Holy shit!
Temple Master Ning is a beast!
He can run that fast even while carrying someone!
Ning Fei didn't slow down in the slightest. Before long, he spotted Lin Tao and the others waiting anxiously for them.
"All six of us are here!"
Liu Wu shouted as he saw the two of them arrive.
"Move, get inside!"
Lin Tao gestured for everyone to head inside.
Through the swirling sand, the viewers could see an inverted cave opening on a raised, sloping mound of earth.
The cave's structure was bizarre. Its opening faced downward; after squeezing inside, one had to crawl upward to enter the actual underground cavern.
"I see."
"The desert is filled with endless wind and blowing sand. Sand is constantly shifting, so only a cave structured like this would avoid being buried."
"That is quite a marvel."
Ning Fei nodded in admiration at the ingenious layout.
The members of the archaeological team slipped into the cave one by one.
Ning Fei and Lin Tao brought up the rear, ensuring everyone made it safely inside.
The smart drone followed closely behind them, keeping the livestream completely stable.
Once inside, the team members skillfully put on their headlamps and clicked them on.
Ning Fei's drone immediately activated its lights, illuminating the path ahead of him.
Everyone reacted with practiced efficiency.
Watching the scene unfold, the viewers were endlessly amazed.
This is so intense! It actually feels like a real archaeological expedition now!
It's just like watching a movie!
These guys are seriously capable!
They are a professional archaeological team, after all.
Where exactly are they right now?
Outside, the fierce wind continued to howl.
The sound of blowing sand echoed through the cave entrance, loud and clear to everyone inside.
It sounded like endless grains of sand violently pelting against a glass window, leaving an underlying sense of unease in everyone's hearts.
"Stay alert. We should be entering the area where those hominids live!"
"We still don't know what we're walking into here."
Lin Tao warned.
Ning Fei added, "It is incredibly strange. If there really are hominids here, there must be a water source and plant life at the very least."
"But this is an underground city that never sees the sun. How could any plants grow here?"
"And what exactly do they rely on to survive?"
The archaeological team surveyed their surroundings.
The sand beneath their feet was thick. Even though the cave entrance sloped upward, the swirling sand was pervasive. Yellow sand coated the inside of this seemingly sheltered place.
The swaying beams from the team's headlamps created an inexplicable sense of dread.
It felt as though something could lunge out from the darkness ahead at any moment.
My heart is beating so fast right now!
+1, I barely even dare to breathe right now!
This is way too intense!
Welcome to the horror livestream channel!
The archaeological team formed a single-file line and advanced.
The passage was extremely narrow—only wide enough for a single person to squeeze through—and forced them to hunch over as they walked.
As they moved forward, the team members carefully inspected the walls on both sides for murals, symbols, or any traces of history.
However, the passage was completely barren, which made it feel exceptionally eerie.
"There's a layer of hardpan and rock underneath."
"Hard soil like this won't change its shape over the years. That's why this passage has managed to survive."
Lin Tao said from the front of the group.
The viewers watched the scene unfold on the livestream with bated breath.
Ning Fei, who was still bringing up the rear, pointed out, "Professor Lin, look closely at the sand on the ground. It's been obviously dug out by something."
"In other words, this passage was likely blocked by sand in the past, and something dug it open."
At Ning Fei's words, everyone took a closer look.
They noticed that while the sand toward the back was thicker, the passage itself was wider there. This indicated that something had shoveled the sand from the entrance backward, digging a path in order to get out.
Where exactly did this passage lead?
What was waiting at the end of it?
The viewers' curiosity grew with every step.
Finally, the archaeological team emerged from the narrow tunnel.
The moment they stepped out, they all stopped dead in their tracks.
"What is that?"
Everyone was absolutely staggered.
At the very edge of the headlamps' reach, a cluster of dark silhouettes of varying heights suddenly loomed out of the darkness!
They just stood there, completely motionless.
For some inexplicable reason, these shadows emitted a crushing, oppressive pressure that made everyone's heart pound in panic.
Holy shit! What are those?
I'm actually scared right now!
I can feel the oppressive atmosphere just through my screen!
Ordinary people naturally fear the dark and the unknown, but the archaeological team possessed much stronger psychological fortitude.
Even so, the team members were visibly tense.
Ning Fei, however, remained calm.
He took a few steps forward and swept his high-powered flashlight over the figures.
Slowly, the true appearance of the dark figures came into clear view.
