Chapter 398: Swamp, Venomous Snake, Monitor Lizard
Ning Fei's sword-throwing technique had reached the pinnacle of perfection.
Back in Qinshan Village, this very throw had viciously pierced a water monkey.
Unexpectedly, deep in the tropical rainforest, Ning Fei was using it on a person.
It happened in a flash. While the viewers were still staring in sheer bewilderment, the sword transformed into a streak of silver light and shot forward.
"Whoosh!"
The camera captured the entire movement, broadcasting it across global livestreams.
The drone hastily shifted its angle to film the swamp.
That was—
The viewers cried out in astonishment.
Not far from the woman, a brown venomous snake had been sliced clean in two by Ning Fei's longsword!"It's an Amazon venomous snake!"
"Oh my god, there was a venomous snake right behind that woman! Thank goodness Temple Master Ning got there in time, or she would have been in mortal danger!"
"Too badass! This scene has me completely dumbfounded!"
"Damn, just damn!"
"Fuck, it's like a martial arts blockbuster! Temple Master Ning always delivers!"
The Huaxia viewers gasped in endless shock.
The foreigners acted like they had never seen anything like it, repeatedly screaming out, "Oh my God!"
"My god, what did I just watch?"
"This Huaxia man, is he a god?"
"His profession in Huaxia is 'Taoist priest', a type of temple leader!"
"What did he just do? He sliced a venomous snake in half mid-air with a sword!"
"Thank the heavens. Good thing he was there."
The foreign viewers clutched their heads, their pupils quaking, faces full of sheer disbelief.
Foreigners traditionally expressed their surprise with exaggerated emotions and actions. Ning Fei's single move literally sent hordes of them scrambling around their televisions.
Terrified by the sight of the twitching snake corpse behind her, the white woman trapped in the swamp leaped straight out of the mud.
She had originally exhausted her strength and couldn't free herself, hoping only to run into another contestant from the show who could lend her a hand so she could continue the competition.
But now, the second she reached solid ground, she slammed the button to forfeit the match.
She was so terrified she didn't even know what to say.
All she could do was stand there crying and repeating, "Thank you! Thank you!"
Ning Fei offered a simple "You're welcome." Then, he approached the edge of the swamp, glanced at the soft ground, and lightly stepped onto it.
The viewers' hearts immediately clenched again.
Ning Fei took two steps forward, his footing perfectly steady.
He walked directly over the swamp's surface without showing the slightest sign of sinking.
"If you distribute your weight evenly and avoid breaking the surface tension of the swamp, you won't sink."
"Besides, this swamp isn't very deep. I just don't want to get too much mud on my legs!"
Ning Fei briefly explained. At the same time, he reached his longsword, applied a bit of force, and slowly pulled it free.
The movement looked simple enough.
But only veteran outdoor explorers could truly understand the mastery of force Ning Fei was displaying.
Pulling a longsword out while standing on a swamp—if the applied force was off by even a fraction, he would sink right into the mud!
Yet Ning Fei completed the slow extraction without sinking an inch.
The foreign viewers were utterly baffled once more.
"Why didn't he fall in!"
"Does he have some sort of special power?"
The Huaxia viewers jokingly replied:
"I know this one. It's really simple, you just gather Chakra at the soles of your feet."
"Even a Genin knows that trick, so what's the big deal if Temple Master Ning knows it!"
Ning Fei pulled his sword free and was just about to leave when a sudden rustling sound echoed through the surroundings.
"Look over there! Something's moving in the bushes behind the swamp!"
"What is it? A giant snake?"
"That's a lot of rustling!"
Ning Fei turned his gaze toward the source of the sound.
"Swamps are generally quite fertile. They have abundant underground water sources heavily laden with minerals, making them extremely rich in nutrients."
"Sedges and reeds usually grow over them, which in turn attracts a large number of birds and snakes."
"Oh, right, otters are a possibility too."
Ning Fei added.
Hearing his explanation, the foreign viewers marveled in admiration:
"This Huaxia man knows so much!"
"Yeah, I feel like his wilderness knowledge is even deeper than Bear's."
"This guy is seriously impressive."
Right then, the tall grass parted, and the creature making all that noise finally revealed its true form.
The viewers froze for a second at the sight of the animal.
"What is that?"
"A dinosaur?"
Everyone cried out in alarm.
At the same time, Ning Fei explained:
"This is a monitor lizard!"
"I didn't expect to actually find one in the tropical rainforest!"
"We have monitor lizards in Huaxia as well. They are first-class protected animals, nicknamed the 'Five-Clawed Golden Dragon'."
"The most famous species is the Komodo monitor from Australia, also known as the Komodo dragon. They grow incredibly massive and truly look like dinosaurs."
"Monitor lizards have aggressive, fierce temperaments. When faced with danger, they like to use their powerful tails as whips to strike their opponents."
"Look at this one—puffing up its neck and letting out that hissing sound. It's trying to intimidate us."
Ning Fei locked eyes with the monitor lizard.
The trapped white woman had long since fled without a trace, likely frightened off by the massive reptile.
The monitor lizard in front of him stood over a meter tall even while crawling on the ground, and its body stretched out to three or four meters in length.
A massive tail dragged along the earth behind it, making it look all the more terrifying.
Still in the swamp, Ning Fei slowly retreated step by step.
He couldn't move too fast, or he would sink into the mud, which would only drag down his speed further.
Now was the true test of his mental fortitude.
Under these conditions, the harder a person panicked, the faster they would sink.
Many people noticed that even as Ning Fei retreated, his expression remained as calm and composed as ever, devoid of any fear or emotional fluctuation.
Everyone watched the broadcast in breathless suspense.
The monitor lizard delivered a brutal visual impact.
The Production Crew immediately prioritized Ning Fei's feed on the main stream.
The foreign viewers were stunned all over again.
"Good lord, there are actually monitor lizards on this island!"
"This is a region of the tropical rainforest where humans rarely set foot."
"Because areas like this are extremely rich in oxygen and vital nutrients, the animals here are highly aggressive."
Ning Fei spoke softly.
Then, he looked back at the monitor lizard and attempted to placate it:
"Big guy, I mean you no harm, so don't get worked up."
"I just don't want to get my pants dirty."
However, Ning Fei's comfort clearly had zero effect on the monitor lizard.
In the very next moment, the beast kicked through the mud and charged straight at him.
From the looks of it, it was fully intent on attacking Ning Fei!
The viewers instantly widened their eyes, and quite a few people leaped straight out of their chairs.
From the drone's first-person perspective, the hill-like lizard barrelling toward Ning Fei looked as if it were charging right out of the screen at the audience.
How could they not be terrified?
In an instant, that sensation of primal dread crept into everyone's hearts.
Just then, they heard Ning Fei let out a helpless sigh:
"Sigh. Is this really necessary?"
